"There continues to be near total silence of western feminists about these barbaric practices. Feminists’ failure to advocate for the rights of these women is so shameful as to completely undermine their judgment and discredit their movement."

Wtf is wrong with these men? Why can they never seem to make the connection in their animal brains that they need to step up rather than blame us for them not listening?

Martina's on it (can't figure out how to do a hyperlink sorry)

She hit the nail on the head (as always).

PenelopePitStrop · 03/09/2024 12:03

Is it some sort of stupid dialectical technique?

(often known as trolling, in non Uni philosophy circles)

He has set up hoaxes before.

But this is viciously tasteless.

What a twat

It’s the old Far Side cartoon isn’t it? DH once admitted to me that he has a switch in his brain where he can determine what someone says to him is “unimportant shite I don’t have to remember” and he is just like the dog hearing noise not words.. Luckily for me I can now work out when he’s doing it from the look on his face.

I find I've suddenly gone off PB in great big bundles...

heldinadream · 03/09/2024 12:21

Always loved her.

outing himself as an ignorant twat just makes me assume he has fuck all judgement in other areas too

watching that video and your first response being to criticise feminists…what a fucking plonker

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/09/2024 12:47

Yes definitely @ArabellaScott

It's a very common response on Twitter from men who don't follow any feminist activists. It's like these guys don't hear women's subsonic voices until a man amplifies or repeats them.

See also: "I hope you reported this to the police?" in response to any woman posting about street harassment, and "Why don't the women just refuse to take part?" in response to complaints about males in women's sport. For me, all these comments are part of a continuum. It's a form of victim-blaming.

I remember once some similar men on social media being outraged when some attention seeking TRA troll said that straight men should fancy "trans women" and it was quite telling that they were all "imagine if they said that to lesbians!"

Kudos, Martina!

PB is a tedious man. I still can't get over his grilling/shaming of one female guest (pre Dansky interview) because she had not taken self defense classes cos obviously that's the answer to male violence, isn't it?

Hot tip, Peter: maybe lay off the Buffy reruns. Its warping your sense of biological reality.

It was the interview about the self defence that changed my opinion of PB. He's delusional. He was insistent that a female friend of his who studied ju jitsu could easily beat him and the two other man in the room in a fight. Now it might be possible for her to beat him in a ju jitsu match if she's a very experienced fighter but that's a completely different situation to a man attacking a woman and trying to hurt her.
Maybe Peter should be watching Buffy reruns more carefully and he might notice what happens when Buffy loses her slayer power and has normal female strength

women do speak up but these are not the voices these regimes listen to, that is one of the reasons men need to speak up about this issue, plus (and part of it) women are not allowed in the same government rooms as the men in these regimes so they cannot be heard even when speaking up...what a knobhead!

It's not just these regimes though. The International efforts to support the opposition in Afghanistan didn't include any Afghan women in their last conference and the UN agreed not to include Afghan women in their most recent discussions with the Taliban.

It's unbelievable and frightening how quickly it's gone from having 69 women in parliament (out of 249 seats) to not being seen or heard in public life.

@IWilloBeACervix Yes. See his interview with Kara Dansky. “Why don’t you carry a gun?” he asks when discussing pervs who put their phones under toilet doors.

Yes. And why don’t women learn self defence to counter being attacked.

I stopped listening to his content after that. He didn’t say it in an exploratory way, it was an accusation.

And a conversation with Julie Bindel after that where she tries to explain to him why self defense classes aren't the answer to male violence and he just cannot understand it at all.

Intersectional feminism, and the sort of feminism that says/said FGM was cultural and we should not criticise it, are to blame for not supporting women in non-Western cultures. There has also been a horrible attitude that a culture excuses abuse e.g. the non-investigation of honour killings and bride-burning in the UK, until it was put right under the noses of elites with some horrific murders of young women.
Those feminists who never embraced the 'non-Western cultures are all lovely and authentic (?) and should not be criticised' did speak up - into a void where no-one would listen.

But not surprising. Liberation of women in Afghanistan was very much an urban thing. Also it did not help that the US put in place in local government people who had been abusing the population, taking bribes etc who had been ousted by the previous Taliban take-over. The US never learns - and the UK won't tell them but just wags its tail like a good puppy.
