The BBC also has a story today about a gay penguin.
How do they know it's not a trans straight penguin? Pinguphobes.

Just Amnesty International celebrating the judicial erasure and subjugation of women. Never give these bastards a penny of your money. Never.

Didn't use a photo of the genuine 'trans woman'...🤨

I think it also included things like finding flat shares/a lodger for your own home.

So there were safeguarding implications as well.

I think the first time I listened to Sall Grover speaking at any length was this podcast, and the idea of safety when seeking accomodation came up in it based on her experiences when living in America and having a terrible time, first career-wise through Hollywood misogyny when trying to be a writer and then on the accomodation side in New York (IIRC) trying to rent somewhere to stay and being constantly propositioned. I’m sure many people here will already know most of this but I found it interesting to hear her talk about the events that led to the idea of Giggle, it’s obviously something she built for very personal reasons and not just as a business idea. And of course a TW had to rock up to ruin it.

If you are suggesting people who aren't trans are intentionally joining groups intended for the opposite sex just to cause trouble I don't think this should be encouraged?
If someone says they are trans, they are. Keep up, Christina.

Don't worry, it never happens.

Wouldn't it be great if the letters XX started appearing mysteriously all over the world...

Amnesty has long been a men’s rights movement. Pro pimping. Pro trafficking of women. I am deeply ashamed that I used to donate to this woman-hating organisation by direct debit.

What terrible day for women in Australia. What a fucked up world we are living in.

So in Australia if someone like Mr Tickle answered an ad for a flat share for females only he can't be discriminated. What a joke.

Feministamum · 23/08/2024 20:08

Yes -

'A transgender woman from Australia has won a discrimination case against a woman-only social media app, after she was denied access on the basis of being male'

Does that make any sense? No

SD1978 · 23/08/2024 20:18

Sadly always assumed it would,go,this way, they have all been well indoctrinated here that you are what you say you are, and everyone has to accept it.......although doesn't ever seem to be argued the other way for women/ girls to be let into male spaces......funny that

bignosebignose · 23/08/2024 20:55

I've actually just started relistening to that podcast I linked to a few posts back and realised that I'd forgotten that finding safe accommodation wasn't just one of things she had in mind when setting up Giggle, it was the initial single point, they (she and her mum) just then realised that they could build on that to create a wider women-only platform. And then totally-normally-named lady Roxy Tickle decided to barge in to discuss recipes, etc.

If you are suggesting people who aren't trans are intentionally joining groups intended for the opposite sex just to cause trouble I don't think this should be encouraged? And I don't think it would be appropriate for Mumsnet to permit the organising of this if you were being serious about it?

You sound a bit - scared? @Christinapple

Scared that the whole silly house of cards of men with a fetish we dare not name who think they're women will collapse if women start doing to men, what men are already doing to us?

YellowAsteroid · 23/08/2024 22:45

If you want proof that Australian men know what a woman/girl is, here's the front page of the ABC (Australia's equivalent of the BBC) "Just in" news page:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/justin

Note the stabbing of a woman by a man; note the birth of a male rhino calf; note the jokey item on weird animal penises ...

And on their radio page, here's the clip which reports the news. Stay tuned for the most female voice ever telling us how they've been in tears for 3 years. Nasty nasty Sall! For upsetting such a tender flower.

https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/news-specials/transgender-woman-s-exclusion-from-app-ruled-unlawful/104264220

Sall's garden will probably need fertiliser soon. Let's hope it's a good harvest this year.

This is why pronouns and language are so important. Anyone who reads the BBC casually and is uneducated on the matter might shrug. Anyone who reads my paragraph would be in no doubt how batshit the whole thing is. We have to claw back the language and pronouns. Never acquiesce to compromises in language.

LilyBartsHatShop · 24/08/2024 01:37

The strange thing about the Amnesty tweet is that, according to the judgement, that's not what happened at all. Because (through the looking glass now) Tickle isn't male.
The judge seems to be saying Tickle was excluded because of having a different gender identity to the other users. But insists that Tickle is now female. So there's no discrimination on the basis of maleness?? Just on the basis of (differing) gender identities. But I thought, within the logic of gender ideologues, that trans women and "cis" women share a gender identity. Isn't that what's supposed to make us all wxmxn??
I do hope trying to decipher the judgement is helping to keep dementia at bay or something because it makes my brain a puddle.
I'm very appreciative of @WeeBisom and @nauticant and others fluent in legal speak for explaining some sections of it.
What is the basis of appeal likely to be? I was feeling very down last night because it reads to me like such a pile of sophist nonsense untethered from reality - so how to get a footing? We're in a smooth drawn world of male fantasy.
Where's the crack to let the light in?

YellowAsteroid · 24/08/2024 01:45

Australia has a written constitution so the next stage is the High Court to challenge the basis of the law. Let’s hope that the paradoxes you point out @LilyBartsHatShop get aired.

Whatever the result it’s letting the sunshine and daylight into this area. So many women - and men - will see the face of Tickle or hear his voice and realise the law is an ass.

I’m a Pollyanna i know, but we have to keep hoping!

"Woah, Arabella criminal damage AND a hate crime!

Not if you use chalk or charcoal. Littering at most, since it can be washed off :-). checks A*on for big packs of street chalk

SinnerBoy · 24/08/2024 08:35

It's difficult to comprehend that, in Australian law, gender identity has been defined as being the same as sex. To my mind, it seems that Sall Grover's appeal is likely to fail, too.

I wonder if she could introduce bans for, say, using a fake profile photo? Or other behaviour?

Vic6 · 24/08/2024 08:46

Dustyblue · 23/08/2024 02:11

Bloody madness. I don't care how he views himself or what medical interventions he's had. At the end of the story he is not a woman and never will be.

If this opens the floodgates to other transwomen to claim compensation for their mental distress at being excluded I am moving to another planet.

Pity there isn’t an easy way to get to Venus! Mind you, they’ll probably claim they’re entitled to get there first!
