Someone on Twitter was complaining that they saw this coming a couple weeks ago when the 'trans' option disappeared from the menu pulldown.

I was going to observe that, since they don't do anything else, it's a bit redundant.

Event after seeing pinknewsstaff sharing info about Pink News CEO Ben Cohen, I was still afraid to speak up — but after seeing support from LindaRiley, DivaMag and darrenstyles I want to share my experience with Ben Cohen that I’ve carried with me many years.

I co-founded mygenderation to make films about trans lives (after my negative experience on a doc series). We hit the ground running, making docs which caught the attention of Ben Cohen. He DM’d, asking to share them. I was thrilled & said of course, thinking he’d share the link

Suddenly I saw he’d ripped our film, added ‘Pink News’ branded subtitles & posted it everywhere without adding a tag or credit back to myself or mygenderation - Films we made on in our own time, as trans people, on a budget of nothing, with the hope to change hearts and minds.

I was scared to message Ben and was considerate with what I wrote. His response was AWFUL. He removed the doc & I felt like I’d been blacklisted. Suddenly there were less articles on me and when something was written, my name wasn’t mentioned, just ‘a non-binary trans activist’

I’d see Ben at various events, at 10 Downing Street, award events etc, and he’d blank me - Either because of an annoyance with me, or perhaps thinking I’m not important enough to be acknowledged. Writing this now, I can’t believe I sat on this so long.

I didn’t share this for fear of being seen like a troublemaker, for fear of not being included in contemporaries who attend parties, ceremonies and events. I’m a people pleaser, I want people to like me. But I’m learning there’s more important things than that.

Having seen one of Fox's films I'm surprised Fox and Pink news were fighting over being recognised at the one responsible. It was genuinely one of the worst things I've seen - and I've sat through John Carter of Mars so I have a high tolerance

Stonewall and Pink News are dropping the T?

If it’s because advertisers are moving on from supporting trans activism, that’s something that should come as no surprise, had anyone bothered to watch what happened when feminism was rebranded as the In Thing (remember Ed Miliband in his This Is What A Feminist Looks Like t-shirt?). As soon as any political or social movement gets taken up by multi nationals and meeja peeps the clock is ticking.

TRAs made the mistake of thinking being the cause de jour was a sign that there was a huge wave of permanent support that would entitled them to have their demands met forever and ever and ever.

Whilst feminist orgs, activists and regular women have continued to plug away at the coal face, fair weather feminists (like the aforementioned Ed) have moved on to the next thing. That currently being trans rights. Out go the Feminist AF t-shirts in come the pride flags. And the fashion changes and the bottom line gets scrutinised and someone else gets a turn on the social justice carousel.
