@Dygger

Thank you for that. Not many adults around here who refer to their teachers. And lots of women here willing to listen to people who are better informed than they are.

School holidays, eh?

Not many adults feel the need to critique others' posts like academic essays, and then tell them that they are, apparently, better informed while not being able to answer the question I originally asked.

And then imply I'm a pimply teenager on school break. Laughable.

What was your question?

Abhannmor · 20/08/2024 10:37

To Exulansic held a memorial/ wake for her on Twitter yesterday apparently

I think we know that this very lazy tactic of making accusations of 'far right' is how those with poorly supported discussion and opinions influence others. It is an attempt to shape the discussion to follow the acceptable discussion points.

I have watched it with my teen's friends. They were all so afraid of being seen as being even a little different from the accepted opinions that they simply repeat trope and mantras. Particularly those who have declared trans identities, unfortunately.

It has various unintended consequences, one of which is that it dilutes and distorts the term 'far right' so that it becomes harder to actually discern the 'far right'.

People using the phrase to mean 'someone I hate' do the genuine work of countering fascism a huge disservice.

It's also grossly offensive to all those who have suffered at the hands of far right ideologues.

Plus, it's just fucking stupid.

I can’t believe the NHS offers this asa surgery. Where is the evidence for such invasive, dangerous, elective surgeries on healthy women?

oakleaffy · 20/08/2024 10:42

Lovelyview · 19/08/2024 09:34

It's a horrific story. There's a lot about it on Twitter. I was astonished to find out this surgery is going to be offered on the NHS at this clinic https://gendersurgery.chelwest.nhs.uk I don't know if it is already offered elsewhere on the NHS. I'm gobsmacked that anyone thinks this is a good idea.

Oh my goodness- Why is NHS funding what is basically a “cosmetic “surgery?

If People want to pay privately, then that’s on them.

There are de transitioners who bitterly regret having surgery.

It’s so risky.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 20/08/2024 09:00

she had a second account when locked out of the first. Gruffin22
And a post about the partial costs- said there’s more.

Is this suggesting that Sivert couldn't afford life preserving surgery? I mean, couldn't afford the surgery to fix up complications from the previous surgeries that were becoming life threatening?
It's all so heartbreaking.

@OldCrone

I'm a bit mystified as to why you believe the fruitfarms is a political site. I haven't seen a lot of political discussion on that site. What makes you think it's a site discussing far right politics?

Far right just means politics? That's new. I must write that down.

I'm another poster curious to know what this non-politics-relatedpolitical definition of "far right" is?
Actually I think it might help me understand what many people mean when they use the term.

LilyBartsHatShop · 20/08/2024 10:46

Actually possibly you mean "alt right"?
That's like the cultural turn but for the right wing.

Yes. There was a time when if someone accused me of being a transphobe I'd stop in my tracks and look at what I'd said/ written and think well, am I? But now I don't even hear it, it's so stripped of any meaning. It's unlikely to be long before the shock value of being accused of being on the far right wears off and 'far right' loses all meaning.

ArabellaScott · 20/08/2024 10:49

And you can see here the NHS is basing the 'gender dysphoria pathway' on activist organisations like WPATH and Stonewall:

Good point.

If the pp could explain what they mean by 'far right' that would be genuinely helpful.

No, her post was more ‘look how much I’ve spent on surgery after surgery, to be who I need to be, and there’s even more than I can be bothered to list!’

The background music was along the lines of ‘people say I must be loaded because I keep buying all this luxury stuff! I’m not, I’m irresponsible!’.

Bless her, she was giving seriously mixed signals. ‘This is great kids, join me! Look how hard it is to be me! Look how hard we are prepared to work to be me! Yes it’s been complicated. it’s cost me a fortune and it still isn’t right. Do I regret it? No. Fuck you terfs!’

God. It’s tragic. I can only imagine, given that she lived with her grandmother, that her family will have a lot of fall out on top of the loss and grief. Poor kid.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/08/2024 11:07

I wouldn't necessarily expect any sort of coherent logic to their use of the term other than "bad people".

Far Right and Far Left are two cheeks around the same bottom.

Both as extreme as each other.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 20/08/2024 11:08

ArabellaScott · 20/08/2024 10:34

It's unlikely you really are, though.

Right and left wing are political positions based on views about the economy and policy. They're not emotive tribal identifiers based on feelz, whatever some people try to say.

No particular party can claim to embody either left or right wing, just as no women's group can lay claim to the whole of feminism.

I know you know this, and I know what you mean.

But it's another case of people trying to use language to distort reality. Resist!

You’re so right. But it feels disorienting when The us democrats are all for it, the greens (my natural home), labour etc all pushing it. Women’s Equality party (- should be my second home).

Peehaps if I change my name Keir will man up and start talking common sense 🤣.

OK, time for a new name chapter 🤣

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 20/08/2024 11:10

Ah. But not in this thread apparently. Ok.

I suggested to the poster that they should define ‘far right’, of what constitutes ‘hate and bilge’ and what are the ‘usual sites’. But it has been crickets.

Caliga · 20/08/2024 09:58

I don't use Reddit for that. I just look at cat stuff there 😄

Interestingly, you criticise people using KF when you use Reddit.
Do you know about all the subs that are about incest and rape? And only a few years ago had a sub called jailbait, which was exactly what it sounds like. That's just scratching the surface of that cesspit.
Or is it only OK to go on certain websites when you do it? Guilt by association works both ways, no?

Caliga · 20/08/2024 11:46

@Helleofabore

No one is critiquing your posts like academic essays, unless you are referring to posters pointing out your lack of ability to support your statements. And then, yes, many adults DO do this on a discussion forum. You stated you have been on MN for a long time, yet you seem to not really have a grasp on how it works. But that is unsurprising.

Goodness me. Imagine typing this out.

Gosh... well... I cannot imagine typing out your posts either. So, I guess we are even.

Would you like to define ‘far right’, of what constitutes ‘hate and bilge’ and what are the ‘usual sites’ so that we can all have a discussion where we understand what you are referring to? While you are here and all. It relates to your very first post on thread, doesn't it?

And what do you think about the Griffin's horrific treatment by the clinicians that were supposed to help Griffin live their best life? Do you feel there is a major issue with the treatment that recommends phalloplasties to female patients?

NotBadConsidering · 20/08/2024 11:54

This should the focus. Not more “right wing” nonsense. How was this allowed to happen to someone? A life ruined and this thread is full of sealioning.

Caliga · 20/08/2024 11:56

@OldCrone

Right wing and left wing are political positions. What did you think they were?

These terms encompass more than just politics. They embrace an individual's set of beliefs about the world around them: their religion, their politics, ethics, hierarchical beliefs, resistance to change, thoughts on authority, tradition, etc. All combined contribute to where a person sits on the spectrum.

lcakethereforeIam · 20/08/2024 12:00

And you can divulge all that from a few posts on MN! Kudos!
