Just reading the thread on here for the first time. What I fail to understand is why so many contributors are so desperate for her to be a man. Someone who has lived their entire life as a woman. Beggars belief.

Fuck me are you lot still going on about this?

She is female with a DSD condition. Swyer syndrome, a rare condition where women have a vagina and uterus, but no, or under developed ovaries and XY chromosomes.

Say you have a daughter who doesn't go through puberty in the expected time frame and doctors start to run tests. At the age of 15, they find that little Jemima actually has a rare condition that means despite having female reproductive organs, she has XY chromosomes, are you going to start calling her Jerry and shouting that she's a man?

For those who are weirdly obsessed with what's in people's pants, Imane Khelif would pass your test. Or do you want everyone DNA tested at birth too?

I doubt anyone here would mind much if IK lived his/her life as a woman. It's the 'competing in women's boxing' thing that's the main concern.

This.

I could care less about how he/she wants to live their life but when it directly endangers a woman, well that is where I draw the line and start to care a lot more about what chromosomes they were born with.

DancingNotDrowning · 14/08/2024 21:04

the “she lived as a woman” crew, never answer the question of what that actually means.

Helleofabore · 14/08/2024 21:04

I would say that an Algerian coach’s hand on the chest at breast height , beamed across the world, is a sure sign that the coaching team do not believe that Khelif is female.

Please post the links to where it has been said that this person has Swyers?

Because I really want to see the evidence.

You'd have to ask her to lift up her dress to "see the evidence"...

CorruptedCauldron · 14/08/2024 21:10

It can’t be Swyers because we know from the boxer’s own trainer that there’s both a chromosome problem and a testosterone problem. Females with Swyers DSD don’t have high testosterone do they, they just have the chromosome issue.

More to the point honestly, and despite all evidence to the contrary why are you so desperate to pretend otherwise?
And furthemore expect others to go along with it?
It would be really good if you could talk to the opponents, but its likely you wouldnt even twere it possible, irrespective of the damage done to them or their career.
As to you, bloke or handmaiden?

InfoSecInTheCity · 14/08/2024 21:10

@HamBagelNoCheese "You'd have to ask her to lift up her dress to "see the evidence"..."

Hate hate hate this kind of hyperbole.

No, we do not need for Khelif to lift up their dress. Just had a swab of their cheek. The IOC do not need to conduct any kind of genital check to confirm sex of the participants I the Women's category.

A cheek swab is definitive, and even a testosterone level test would be indicative because unless they are doping, there is no medical condition that would put a females testosterone level within the same level as a males.

If IK had Swyer syndrome the coach wouldn't need to say IK had taken testosterone suppression, because IK would have no testosterone.

Try again.

Oh, CAIS you say? No, wrong again. If IK had CAIS their body wouldn't be able to use testosterone and again, no suppression.

For me, the clincher is that if IK had Swyer or CAIS (which would be fine, no advantage in sport), they'd have the medical records online before you could say testicles.

According to Reddit it appears to mean spinny skirts, blue lipstick, and anime.

HamBagelNoCheese · 14/08/2024 21:06

Nope.

I only have to read the IBA, WBO and the EBC statements to know that they were tested twice and found to be male with pubertal advantages. Then after the IBO told Khelif that they were excluded, apparently, according to one of their coaches, Khelif was tested a third time. And after that test ‘started to suppress testosterone’.

Then, I look at the IOC’s ridiculous guidelines of ‘female’ in passports.

But glad that you feel you can trust the IOC. I remember them telling me that Semenya was a female with high testosterone, iirc. When it turns out that Semenya has a DSD categorised as 5ARD and is male and had a male puberty.

niadainud · 14/08/2024 21:13

InfoSecInTheCity · 14/08/2024 20:32

Khelif's wording has been very careful in all communications.

"I was born a woman, I have lived as a woman and I fight as a woman"

All true statements if Khelif has a DSD.

I was born a woman - yes, incorrectly identified as female at birth due to a DSD. This does not change the fact that Khelif has XY chromosomes making them male and giving them the advantage of a male puberty.

I have lived as a woman - I hate this phrase because how does one 'live as a woman' but technically I suppose yes, tells everyone they are a woman and has F in their passport due to the aforementioned error in identification of sex at birth.

I fight as a woman - has identified into the female category due to shoddy entrance requirements and yes does now fight in the women's category.

None of these things actually make Khelif a female by biology and physiology. They have all the physical advantages of a male body which makes it unfair and dangerous for them to be punching women in the head for sport.

"I was born a woman - yes, incorrectly identified as female at birth due to a DSD. This does not change the fact that Khelif has XY chromosomes making them male and giving them the advantage of a male puberty."

This is not necessarily correct. It is possible to have a DSD which means you have XY chromosomes but are not phenotypically male and do not go through male puberty (for example Swyer's Syndrome).

Runor · 14/08/2024 21:14

@LHayday shame you don’t apply your critical thinking skills and actually engage with the excellent points pp have made. I wonder if this lack of critical thinking applies to other beliefs you hold too?

suggestionsplease1 · 14/08/2024 21:15

Helleofabore · 14/08/2024 21:01

This person did not start boxing until 17. Those trying to use sport as an explanation for not starting periods don’t seem to understand that this athlete was not doing intense sport before then to explain this delay.

There are multiple reasons why a young person in any given culture might not experience puberty in a regular fashion, and multiple reasons why they may not be aware of what a typical experience of puberty is; it's ludicrous to try to be prescriptive on these matters.

And as far I'm aware there is no verified, publicly available information about any sex tests Imane has undergone...what sex tests have you seen about them in order that anyone can make confident assertions?

No, that is incorrect. If she had SS she would not have raised testosterone.

A syndrome, I understand, unlikely to leave someone able to compete at elite level sports

Newsenmum · 14/08/2024 21:17

I’m pretty sure she had no idea she was ‘male’. She was born with a vulva/vagina and and went through normal female puberty and was obviously very good at her sport. It’s possible some ‘non traditional’ women on here might not realise they are xy. Are you now men?

Strange just who uses the ‘genital inspection’ line of argument to attempt to support their opinion.

No ‘genital inspection’ needed. Happy with a Paris endocrinologist declaring there is an ‘issue’ with chromosomes and that Khelif was needing to ‘suppress testosterone’.

Only male people ever need to suppress testosterone to play sport in the protected category of female sport. Because… female people don’t have anything but ‘female’ levels of testosterone.

Maybe you should read some more. You seem ill informed.

Where did you get the evidence that they went through a ‘female puberty’? Please link up that reference so we can all be assured.
