olympic car crash

I thought after the WPATH debacle that would blow the lid off, once and for all, gender woo having any further influence in medical matters. Do we think the IOC will simply try to style this out with "nothing to see here" or will radical change be a result? No idea myself as there seems to be still far too many nutters in positions of power.

They're in an ideological cul-de-sac.

So, the only^^ thing they can do is double down, and mutter about 'F's' on passports.

Chersfrozenface · 05/08/2024 16:40

It depends whether Seb Coe or a Thomas Bach clone gets to be president of the IOC.

Coe is not perfect, but he's miles better than the current gender ideologue.

GreenUp · 05/08/2024 16:44

Does anyone know from the IOC framework, is there a testosterone upper limit for the boxing categories? Or is it literally just what it says in your passport?

PepeParapluie · 05/08/2024 16:49

I’m not expecting a u-turn this games. I’m thinking the best we can maybe hope for is that they quietly change the rules before the next games. I’m not convinced they will though.

nothing will change during these games-that would be the equivalent of erecting a ten foot high pink neon sign over the Eiffel Tower saying "we are batshit mentalists who dont know our arse from our elbow". Best outcome is they realise this looks dreadful, isn't going away and will need sorting by people who know what the fuck they are talking about. I suspect this will need Coe to be elected in place of Bach, who seems completely out of his depth, to be charitable.

It absolutely blows my mind that the one sport among All Possible Sports which was the hill that IOC chose to die on was boxing.

But I guess if they can get people to shut up about this one then it'll truly be anything goes.

Chersfrozenface · 05/08/2024 16:56

Or the IOC ditches boxing - either just women's boxing or all boxing - and hopes everyone forgets about males in women's sports, like soccer.

WallaceinAnderland · 05/08/2024 16:59

I think they will drop boxing at the next games for 'health and safety' reasons.

They started in one press conference that they don't test for testosterone they just check the passport

I would like to know this- I was shocked when the Algerian coach said:
"Then the medical president of the IOC said that it's really normal in boxing that the athletes' testosterone is high. For all the girls it is the same. Imane is not alone in this case."

So, is there an acceptable level, how can they tell if someone is doping? Or is it a free for all with endogenous and exogenous testosterone?

1apenny2apenny · 05/08/2024 17:12

There was a graph on the other thread showing testosterone levels of men and women. I don't doubt that many women in these sports are at the higher end for T. That however is very different to men's levels.

Perhaps all the women should have a 'sex' test and testosterone test and publish their results. It's very telling that neither athlete will consent to the results being published nor to their own testing. We all know why.

I think it's very hard to comprehend how someone could be such a cheat in sport, especially at the Olympics. Do they not understand that this effectively negates any medal they win? But then I suppose it's also hard to comprehend how someone can think having an 'F' in your passport makes you a woman. I mean doesn't only cost a fiver to get that in the uk? Self id through the back door.

Either he's talking bollocks or there are several other males in women's boxing, which is what we have heard - so far unsubstantiated.

Floisme · 05/08/2024 17:43

I think, if you'll pardon the pun, that the IOC have now boxed themselves into such a tight corner that they clearly feel they have no option but to bluster and bully it out.

I also think they wouldn't have had a cat in hell's chance of getting away with it if (with one or two honourable exceptions) the mainstream media had the will and the gumption to do their job.

Well we know that Caster Semanya didn't care in the least about being a cheat. He has made a career out of being a "female" athlete, and even writing about his life.

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 05/08/2024 18:11

"we are batshit mentalists who dont know our arse from our elbow"

Never a truer word said @lonelywater

Indeed. And doesn't it say so much about his character? I wonder what his children will think of him when they're old enough to understand what he did.

That was the self admitted strategy with male rapists and murderers in women's prisons if I recall. The started there deliberately on the basis of if this is accepted then it's an open door to any other incursion.

Male entitlement and motivated reasoning, I suppose.

You just wait for the media to successfully vociferously and confusedly insist that you're just a misunderstood woman, and then bide your time until you can say whatever and it won't matter if anyone challenges you, which they won't bother because "Why speak up now when it's been so long?"

GnomeDePlume · 05/08/2024 18:25

Being cynical I do wonder if IOC has allowed this to happen so that boxing can be removed from the Olympics.

GCITC · 05/08/2024 18:28

They will simply wash their hands of it when they find a federation to take over the running of the boxing.

FiveFoxes · 05/08/2024 18:37

An interesting sidenote is the use of head protectors in boxing. These have been removed for men boxing as apparently research showed they could increase the risk of concussion.

Women still wear headguards ... Because no research has been done .

AuntyFunGal · 05/08/2024 18:40

Martina Navratilova had her T level tested as part of her tv program re trans sportspeople. Her level was comfortably within normal range (under 2nm per litre).

Once women go over 2, we exhibit a range of health problems. Hardly conducive to elite sports. Unless we’re talking about the other type of women’s bodies who aren’t affected by high T levels.

See former E German athletes & Flo-Jo, who died v young. Why would apparently healthy, super fit women drop dead of heart problems?

OvaHere · 05/08/2024 18:47

I was surprised to discover Semenya admitted to having testicles last year. Yet apparently plenty of people still think he's female.

The IOC administering the boxing directly is a temporary measure. Hopefully the IBA gets its house in order in time for the next Olympics cycle.

One thing to bear in mind is that the two boxers at the heart of this debacle remain banned outside of the Olympics, so it’s hard to see how they would qualify for Los Angeles, even if the sport is still being administered by the IOC then.
