I rose to it today. Couldn't help myself. Challenged a couple of folk on Twitter who were responding positively to my batshit TRA MPs statement on Twitter about the Olympic boxing business. I'm always polite. I ask questions and challenge gently here and there, but good god they always get abusive. I never learn.

I've been most disappointed by the SM posts from people I expected to know better, arguing that the athletes with DSDs are women.

Not only are they so adamant they are women, but anyone who points out the facts to them is a bigot deserving of shouty capital letters. It really is true that you can't argue with stupid.

Thank you for all the comments everyone- this is genuinely educational and has pointed me towards more information.

On the contrary:

"The producer of a controversial play about JK Rowling's trans views has told Sky News that members of the production have experienced "death threats" - with his own mother targeted by online trolls amid criticism of the show."

Graham Linehan, known for his gender critical views, is being sued by a homosexual actor for libel. The judge has rejected GL's claims that they were just an opinion. 7 publications where a number of serious accusations or implications are made by GL.

And we've all seen the transphobic abuse about Imane Khelif who isn't even trans. Transphobia hurts all women.

Christinapple · 03/08/2024 21:31

"No one who is GC said the boxer is trans."

The Boston Globe, "New England's leading source for breaking news and analysis", did in print. Unless a grovelling apology and correction comes soon from them they'll be some legal trouble in store.

Why would there be a grovelling apology? Is it a vile calumny to say that a man who claims to be a woman is a man who claims to be a woman?

Indeed.

Would be a very interesting court case.

Your hit list? 😆
Ooh, scary.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/08/2024 22:45

Hi, you never did answer my simple questions on the other thread and since you're here,

@Christinapple a couple of questions:

Do you believe that XY people typically have an advantage in most sports over XX people? Yes or No.

Do you believe that identity trumps biology in sports? If an XY person says they are female, they should get to compete with XX people? Yes or No please.

If the answer to the above are Yes and No, do you believe that in women's sport a simple cheek swab should be used to stop cheating?

I think it's important to know what you're actually arguing for.

News to me that the Boston Globe is run by "GC" feminists!

Mollyollydolly · 04/08/2024 02:01

I try not to rise to it on twitter and just tend to post Ross Tuckers podcast link repeatedly.

I will respond to people I know are real with a big following. Got blocked by a couple this week. Responded to the mad MPs with facts and hope other people will read it and take it on board.

I support people like Nichola Adams when they're brave and speak out and the likes of Nancy Kelley try and shame them on twitter.

Had quite an amusing exchange with that twit Otto English yesterday. I know he won't change his mind, I know he's goading for clicks, but live in hope at least some people see it and think what an utterly disingenuous, ill-informed twit he is.
.
It's definitely been worse this week. There seems to be some really strange goings on with the algorithms, my feed has been insane, dementing, and I've needed to take a break from it. Bots to send us mad, who knows?

At the end of the day though, apart from here and twitter where would we be able to discuss it, so I still think the good outweighs the bad.

mirax wanted a list of GC people/orgs who are falsely claiming Imane is trans which I helped with, but nice manipulation attempt.

I have provided 2 examples to mirax who claimed "no GC person has said Imane is trans". A newspaper and a user here who said they agreed with the newspaper. That's literally it.

It didn't sound that way. You spoke of legal action against people expressing a certain opinion and then told another poster with that opinion she was on a list. The implication was there. It comes off as threatening behaviour and I do believe that was how you intended it. If by some chance you didn't, your social awareness needs major work.

Christinapple · 04/08/2024 02:32

I think "list" has been taken out of context. It was not meant to mean what some here are claiming it to mean.

misscockerspaniel · 04/08/2024 02:37

Come the revolution...

SilenceInside · 04/08/2024 02:39

"ok we can add you to our list too."

I mean, what the hell else did you think that people would take this to mean?? It's sinister and bizarre.

Christinapple · 04/08/2024 02:40

A list of 2 examples. It really is that simple.

misscockerspaniel · 04/08/2024 03:12

Are you sure it isn't a spreadsheet that identifies as a list.

I did not say that Khelif was trans or that I agreed with the newspaper.
I wondered how a man who claims to be a woman (because of a DSD) could be vilely insulted by being described as a man who claims to be a woman (because trans).

But mainly I was surprised, given your posting history, that you appeared to think saying Khelif is transgender could be offensive enough to warrant a grovelling apology or legal action, rather than a simple correction.

XChrome
The list threat (and panicky back-pedalling) was revealing and instructive to lurkers, so if you haven't already reported the post, please don't on my account.

Edited for clarity.

Okay, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and in that case I apologize. We all say things that come out wrong from time to time.

Have you tried using Control Panel for Twitter? It allows you more control over what you see on Twitter. For example, I’ve hidden the For you view, and I see only two tabs, Following and Retweets.

The For you tab was really stressing me because it was showing me stuff I didn’t necessarily want to see. Now I only see people I’m following, and any tweets they’ve retweeted. If someone’s getting on my nerves, I unfollow them and don’t see any of their tweets again.

It’s available as an add-in for most browsers and Twitter apps.
