Male support for Transwomen, just another branch of misogyny?

Looking on FB at some of the responses to the boxing in Paris has go me thinking about the reasons behind male support of transwomen in women's sports and spaces.

I've seen so many men cracking jokes about the female losing and supporting transwomen in women's sport. Again with lots of jokes but support for the wins, non the less.

Looking at several of the profiles they seemed to fit a mold, angry gym types with a distain for women. Old stereotypes about women, poor taste jokes, memes etc

So do they support transwomen? Or have they found a new way to keep women down? By agreeing that TWAW and revelling in the fact women are getting beaten up in an officially sanctioned way?

I can't see any other reason for these men, who are not in any other way outwardly supportive of LGB issues on their timeliness or bios, to be so supportive of TW and the destruction of women's safety and achievements.

Is it just a new way to keep women down by propping TW(men) up?

Yeah you’ve nailed it.

They are just revelling in women being beaten, physically, medal-wise or otherwise.

Gross but at least not as disingenuous as the ones who insist there’s no advantage because their feelz are womanly.

Blokes support blokes shocker.

Nothingeverything · 02/08/2024 16:14

Also quite a lot of men hate feminists and see this as a way of getting back at them- "you wanted equality so suck it up".

FuzzyPuffling · 02/08/2024 16:19

The disputed boxers in Paris aren't TW, they are men with an XY profile.

As to the rest, pure misogyny.

Giggorata · 02/08/2024 16:21

Yes, and this applies to both transwomen and men who have hormonal or chromosomal conditions and present as female.
It applies especially in things like the boxing, where they can revel vicariously in violence against women.
Again, the Greer quotation is relevant here:
“Women have very little idea of how much men hate them”

When the all women's shortlist shit kicked off in the Labour Party, I saw posts from more than one man that made it clear that beneath the "TWAW and that's why they belong on the shortlist" rhetoric there was resentment that women had shortlists at all. They clearly felt they weren't fair on the menz. After all, if women couldn't make it in politics it was clearly because they weren't good enough, not because of any structural inequality. (And even worse that anyone suggest there may be prejudice within the LP of all places). So yes

They enjoy violence against women and liked seeing a woman humiliated.

This.

Why is this so hard to understand??

Identifying as trans is totally different to having a DSD.

ZoeCM · 02/08/2024 17:30

It absolutely is. There are so many men online defending Khelif and calling Carini hysterical. They can openly cheer on a man for beating up a woman, mock the woman for crying after being hit by a man - AND get brownie points for it rather than get called out for misogyny. Lefty closet MRAs can't believe their luck. Political correctness swung back round to the MRAs' side years ago.

SannaK · 02/08/2024 17:38

Isn't it the age old sexism rooted in non Christian teaching ( huge issue I know but briefly when Christ died on the cross the temple of the curtain was rent in two, thereby signalling that both genders all races are one read equal in God's eyes. the true living God.) If you accept/believe that God created male female. You have a hope of rationality .When you denounce God (the Christian scriptures conception of God) it's not good what follows.

All who agree say Amen!

Endofweekagain · 02/08/2024 17:52

There is a type of man who reacts with mocking, laughing scorn to any women who try to assert any boundaries against them.

i think this is part of it.

Men tend to support other men. They see that boxer as a man, and so take his side. They see TW as men and that is why they instinctively take their side too.

SannaK · 02/08/2024 18:00

It's just bizarre though, they see TW as men. What as women are we to do.

Come on we gotta do something for our daughters sakes?

SannaK · 02/08/2024 18:03

Come on
Really! Really is this even happening? Is it though? If it is it's serious and we need to do something within legal bounds
If we don't who will?

SannaK · 02/08/2024 18:07

Please Big fussy energy??? Is that right

What do you mean by they're feelz?

Sorry a bit older here x

Yes, it's very much the same vibe as men saying that if women want equality, men should be able to punch women in the face.

Makes no sense until you understand that what they are really saying is how much they hate feminism.

Certain men love the fact that they are physically stronger/faster/etc than women and think that this means they are the superior sex in all respects, so male supremacy is the correct and natural order.

KohlaParasaurus · 02/08/2024 19:36

The most pernicious examples of this I've come across are men who claim to be feminists and who have hooked into the "most marginalised" rhetoric as a pretext for lambasting women and feeling virtuous for doing so.

sadabouti · 02/08/2024 20:10

I'm not sure that it's correct that men who aren't that invested in the debate support transgenderism or DSD male athletes competing in female sports categories because they are individually violent. Quite the opposite actually. Those that support it tend to do so passively because they identify as left leaning non-violent blah blah blah. They've been persuaded that it's progressive and inclusive to support trans women (and that it's the same as supporting gay and lesbian people). And most have limited understanding of the issues as advanced by feminists in forums like this. These are the sort of people who declare themselves "allies" blind to the fact that actually, it's a form of misogyny and by allying themselves to it, they are subordinating themselves to an ideology that makes no scientific sense - and seeks to paint non believers as blasphemous heretics not deserving of respect. Honestly, most of these men don't take the time to consider it, and assume that everyone who believes sex is immutable must a bigoted raving right wing fanatic. So it's mutual loathing, and the issues are not really progressed because of these misunderstandings. There are men (like me) who accept the truth, that sex is driven by chromosomes. And not all of us are on the right of politics. But to get there you have to listen to and accept the views of women, and men are not always very good at doing that.

RoyalCorgi · 02/08/2024 20:14

They are absolutely salivating at the sight of a woman having her nose punched and left reeling by a male. I think most of them are getting sexually turned on by it. The best thing as far as they're concerned is they can revel in their misogyny under the guise of appearing progressive.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/08/2024 20:56

I agree, @RoyalCorgi it's grotesque.

Of course they are, most porn is more assault than sex.

Exactly this. We had a few nasty misogynists at work that were like that, including a man who was gay. I point this out as some women feel like that gay men are immune to hatred of women, but they aren't.

With some of them, I wonder at times if they have a closeted sexual thing for transwomen. They feel they can't express that openly, so they channel their enthusiasm in other ways.

TempestTost · 02/08/2024 21:23

I'm sure there are men like that OP.

But lots of women also "support" gender ideology, in my experience they are actually more likely than men to support males in women's sports. Most men get it right away.
