Biden Drops Out of Presidential Race and Endorses Harris: Live Updates

After intense pressure from within his own party, President Biden said he was ending his campaign and backing Vice President Kamala Harris to run in his place. Ms. Harris said she would seek the nomination, adding: “Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”

Is there any reason for it not to be Mark Kelly? From a State with a Democrat governor - chest full of military medals - good public service family background (cops not old money) - interesting former career - very supportive of his wife who survived a much more serious gun injury than Trump's (Jewish but not loudly pro-Israel wrt the Gaza war).

Seems to me he ticks a lot of boxes, and in a very old fashioned way will give Gabby Giffords back some of the political visibilty the shooter tried to take from her.

Plus he'll keep the Irish genealogy industry happy, and he looks quite cute with that bald head.

Frankly - he’s quite dull. Seems to be a decent guy but hard to see him electrifying the Democrats in the way Harris has. And this will be a turnout election, not a persuasion election. So exciting the base is vital.

Kelly wouldn’t do that.

Not to derail but ....I've got this song going through my head - Pamela Pamela , obviously triggered by Kamala. I think it was Peter Noone or someone like that from the 60s. Driving me mental!

But again, pushing a different button. Dull will be good for those people who distrust pizazz. 'You looking for a plumber?' will appeal to people who say 'space shuttle? meh' . (It also leads me to suspect he has a sense of humour which will be useful if he'd debating Vance).

Anyhow, I'm totally partisan, I want to see Gabby Giffords getting cheered at an inauguration, even if it's this way (and I do like his bald head).

Andrew Marr , on the New Statesman podcast , said Kamala hasn't been elected to anything ever. What a tube on YouTube! Five minutes on Google Andrew.
Quite ironic ; we're often complaining about Americans being ill informed about this side of the pond. Cuts both ways it seems.

Michelle Obama has been saying for years she doesn't want to go into (believes) in mainstream politics. There are other ways of being political. Some quotes from her here https://www.yahoo.com/news/running-list-michelle-obama-said-192124400.html

Pamela, Pamela - Wayne Fontana (I had to look it up and it sounds really wimpy - not suitable for a newly crowned "brat girl")

A running list of what Michelle Obama has said about (not) running for president

Michelle Obama has long said she's uninterested in running for political office. Still, people have thrown around her name to replace Joe Biden.

l@IwantToRetire I suppose it is a bit too vanilla. Thats the trouble with getting old. The polls are encouraging if not a dramatic improvement. My friends over there are certainly happier.
