Is there an update on the Brighton rape crisis case?

Just been reading about Edinburgh rape crisis and was reminded of Sarah’s case against Brighton. I’ve not heard an update recently, can someone point me to a thread if I’ve missed something?
If the case is still pending, hopefully recent awareness such as Edinburgh will only help?

It's been postponed until November apparently - I asked on another thread and @IamSarah popped in to say.

She was my first thought too when I read about Edinburgh. 🤞

Twoshoesnewshoes · 20/07/2024 12:53

Thanks @Byjimminy
yes fingers crossed that the recent cases go in her favour

Was wondering that too, have donated repeatedly but not on X so thanks for the update.

Oh no, I didn't see that.

How many times now have they delayed this?

Its just terrible.

They are really dragging it out arent they? It seems intentional to cause punishment, but there might be a valid reason?

IamSarah · 22/07/2024 09:17

Thank you everyone for the continued support. It really is so appreciated.

If I don't post on here in the run up to the case it doesn't mean I am not checking the feminist board and reading messages 😊

Yes trial window starts in November. Really hoping there will be no more delays.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 22/07/2024 09:38

Ahh thanks Sarah.
thinking of you, really hoping that the sunlight pouring in now is helpful to your case!

All the best to Sarah.

Wasn't there another case which was due to start about now? It was posted about here.

I don’t know if this was the one you were thinking about, but Laura Favaro’s case is due to be heard in mid-September.

Thanks. This is the one - found it, wrote this link into a post & thought I'd posted it.🙄

@IamSarah has updated on Twitter, her case has been delayed AGAIN. I hope this is just because of the widespread issues within the court system, rather than Survivors Network playing silly buggers, but it's a shame that the process continues to be dragged out. Hopefully she will get a court date soon.

Oh no!

This outrageous. There surely needs to be a date by which a case has to be heard.

How many months / years is this now? Angry

Hope you are doing okay Sarah - not much help but here is some cake and a nice cuppa Cake Brew and some Flowers

Jesus. So they are taking it to trial? Given how Edinburgh went down, I wonder will the judgement be even harsher? How is their all male pro bono team of lawyers doing I wonder

Byjimminy · 05/11/2024 22:34

Oh no. That's awful, poor @IamSarah.

We are still here behind you Flowers

ERCC was an employment tribunal about how an employee was treated. The case that was won was about bullying not whether or not TW should be considered the same as a woman.

Not unfortunately about how a user was treated.

Although of course the issue on which Roz Adams was being bullied was about being honest with service users as to whether a member of staff or volunteer was a TW.

IamSarah · 06/11/2024 09:44

Thanks everyone Flowers

I was supposed to get a court date on Monday but this still hasn't been set. Was initially June 2024 then November 2024 now estimates are summer 2025. Nobody anticipated it taking this long and it being this painful.

The Roz Adams judgment is very encouraging though.

Justice delayed is justice denied. Especially when the case is about access to treatment or therapy to enable someone to rebuild their lives.

Byjimminy · 06/11/2024 10:07

That is encouraging @IamSarah thanks for the link.

What on earth are their reasons for further delay? It's really not a good look for the reasons @TrumptonsFireEngine outlines.

IamSarah · 06/11/2024 10:21

I'm not entirely sure why there is such a delay.

There was an 8 hour hearing on Monday (which I didn't attend) and I'm waiting for the notes from that.

It's really hard having it hanging over me for so long but I have found an excellent therapist.

Byjimminy · 06/11/2024 11:29

Hopefully they're having a hard think after the outcome for Roz Adams and will come to their senses soon. Wishing you lots of strength.

dunBle · 06/11/2024 13:11

I really hope they aren't pissing about, because that's incredibly unreasonable. Glad that you've got a great therapist though, and hopefully at some point Survivors Network will end up paying for that.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 06/11/2024 14:06

Given the Roz Adams result, I suspect that using the process as the punishment is all they've got.

Very glad you have good therapist Sarah Flowers

I finally have a court date! 22-30 September 2025 at Brighton County Court.

It will be exactly 4 years after it all happened.

I know many of you have been supporting me since the start and wanted to let you know.
