Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Relieved that there’s no sign of my employer.

There’s an awful lot of universities and banks in there, eh? What strange bedfellows.

RandySavage · 17/07/2024 13:47

I’ll be avoiding Tesco as much as possible from now on. That seems to be the only company I regularly have contact with.

Isn’t it odd? A decade ago I’d have been looking at these companies favourably - now it’s like a ‘beware’ list.

redfacebigdisgrace · 17/07/2024 13:49

And law firms. 😱

Bodeganights · 17/07/2024 13:49

Christ, you'd think NHS blood and transplants would know about the two sexes we have and why gender is useless in blood and transplants.

PurpleSparkledPixie · 17/07/2024 13:50

Yuck. My local University is quite high but I know the local council just loves pretty colours and being kind so I'm guessing there's an overspill.

NHS Blood and Transplant
That was a surprise to see. I would have assumed they weren't rolling in money to start off with.

lcakethereforeIam · 17/07/2024 13:55

Bae systems! Surely that should put Stonewall on the Palestinian bods shit list?

Maverick197 · 17/07/2024 13:56

Really surprised to see Victim support on there, if you are a female victim of crime you don't want support from someone who doesn't know what a man and a woman is.

VoodooQualities · 17/07/2024 13:58

Do you have to pay to be on this list?

My old employer is on there quite near the top, but my new one isn't at all, though both are high profile organisations and both have trans inclusive policies etc.

Lots of law firms on that list I noticed. I find that a little odd what with the 'Stonewall Law' vs 'Actual Law' thing.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/07/2024 14:00

redfacebigdisgrace · 17/07/2024 13:49

And law firms. 😱

And our regulatory body. Reassuring. Not.

Whatwouldscullydo · 17/07/2024 14:02

Didn't see my employer thank god.

Given only a few years ago the MOJ was number 5 and they stick rapists in women's prisons I've always wondered wtf you have to do to reach the top 4.

Luminousalumnus · 17/07/2024 14:10

Thank you! The list of shame. Why are these organisations not reading the room yet? Though I do notice some big names that are no longer there.

Nothingeverything · 17/07/2024 14:21

Why does anyone want to be on the list in the first place? Even before Stonewall's fall from grace it seems like a terrific waste of money.

sockarefootwear · 17/07/2024 14:28

I used to work for one of the businesses ranked fairly highly and it does not surprise me at all. My observation as an employee was that they were always very keen to tick PR boxes about inclusivity/supporting women in business etc whilst in reality promotion policies etc worked against women who went on maternity leave and many of the (male) bosses sidelined any woman with small children (but not men with children of a similar age). Not long before I left there was a 'women in management' focus group set up in each office with the stated aim of addressing the fact that a high proportion of female staff left within 12 months of maternity leave and the very low % of senior roles held by women. In my office, a male manager was made chair of this (with no input from female staff) on the basis that he understood the challenges as a single parent himself. Whilst he was technically single and a parent, in fact he saw his child every other weekend and his ex wife did all the school admin/washing/sick days/school holiday child care etc. Despite lots of issues being raised, the official conclusion reported back was basically that women who have children change their priorities so there's no more action needed. Box ticked. Status quo upheld.

I’m embarrassed 😫

Tesco were all over Stonewall just before I left in 2022. And I think mermaids were one of the nominated charities at that time.

Glad to see my current employer isn't on the list and checked https://sex-matters.org/campaigns/keeping-track-of-stonewall/
and noted they're not listed at all as subscribers which is unexpected.

This doesn't mean it's not totally captured though, with a million diversity folx milling around the lobby facilitating rainbow cake sales & manning the 'diversity tree' decoration table in the midst of a recruitment crisis where I'm covering 2 different roles for 3 people.

I'm tolerant because it's my work and I'm an adult. Sometimes this feels despite the D&I initiatives, not because of.

Keeping track of Stonewall - Sex Matters

We keep track of Stonewall's activities when they influence language, law and policy, and try to keep an up-to-date list of Stonewall Champions.

"LGBTQ+ people lie at the heart of every community in the UK"

Wow, every community! Every single one. Even little rural villages with just a pub, a church and a village hall with a fortnightly coffee and cake morning.

FrancescaContini · 17/07/2024 15:01

Shame on all the NHS trusts eg Birmingham Women and Children’s NHS trust (the irony) for wasting money on this bullshit.

I’m relieved that there aren’t as many universities as I had expected.

AnnaMagnani · 17/07/2024 15:04

There has been a huge drop off in NHS Trusts on that list.

Interested to see St Mungo's on there. Last time I dealt with them the staff were on strike to get a living wage. But apparently they have money for this.

stuffyoursandbox · 17/07/2024 15:22

DH's employer is top 10 but not surprised. All nhs bodies should be prohibited from spending money on this shite

EdithStourton · 17/07/2024 15:24

Great use of taxpayers money... When waiting lists are huge, the roads are peppered with potholes and you can wait 36 hour for PC Plod to turn up.

If I clock our more than 5 mins late ( usually due to the app not loading or customers leaving late so unable to complete close down as quickly) I have to pick a box to tick to provide an explanation.

Why aren't these services being held accountable for the length if time they take to do their job. Especially when filling out and submitting pages and pages of paperwork showing how much you throw women under a bus must be a full time job in itself.

It should be a criminal offence within itself to waste time on compiling lists of non crimes and unnecessary paperwork

Thingybob · 17/07/2024 15:42

Not many businesses that rely on actual customers.

WookeyHole · 17/07/2024 15:53

Fully expected mine to be there so that's a surprise. No doubt there will now be a big push though.

Been meaning to change away from HSBC since they were so horrific dealing with DF's estate. Double the reason now.
