I really don't understand why Tilly's supporters/apologists don't seem to understand that as a representative of a retailer, it's a sackable offence to destroy stock belonging to the retailer. It's workplace theft.
All big organisations also have it in their employment contracts that it's a disciplinary offence to behave in such a way on social media as to bring the employer into disrepute.
Tilly can hardly be labouring under the delusion that it's a bookseller's job to ONLY sell books that the bookseller personally agrees with and doesn't find offensive. I mean if Tilly owned her own bookshop she could have a policy whereby she only sold books she liked, sure. I mean it's an unbelievably crap business model likely to lead to going bust within a year, but if that's what Tilly wanted to do with her own business, have at it.
But she could hardly think that was Waterstone's policy given that Waterstones retails Mein Kampf for £25 a pop.
