How many votes did they get in the areas they stood? BBC isn’t giving a breakdown of results.

How many voted do you have to get to reclaim your deposit?

Less votes overall than the monster raving loony party

Yes, Labour got enough to form a government.

Silent majority right? 😂

So how did the party of women do?
Ineverlose · 05/07/2024 10:06

It’s the complete opposite@CleftChin KJK and most of the other candidates for the POW each got the lowest number of votes in their constituency,

OldCrone · 05/07/2024 10:13

For comparison, these are the results of the more established TWAW Women's Equality Party. They only had 4 candidates.

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2024-uk-election-results/parties/women-s-equality-party/

POW did remarkably well for a party which has only existed for a few months.

So how did the party of women do?
Ineverlose · 05/07/2024 10:31

No they didn’t do well. They did really badly. No one expected lots of votes but the low number of votes, especially KJKs, were much much worse than anyone expected.

There's no point in lies like that - we can all go and look - the were last in 4 constituencies - primarily ones where they were the only non-stream candidate.

In the other 12, they made a good showing against the other independents/small parties.

Hoosemover · 05/07/2024 12:01

How can we make PoW more effective? Is anyone here a member of the party?

CleftChin · 05/07/2024 12:04

Whatever1964 · 05/07/2024 09:28

Silent majority right? 😂

So what you're saying is that a brand new, single focus party, with only 6 weeks prep, did as well as a universally known party known as a protest vote with over 40 years of experience?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 12:04

They're a very new party, not sure what people were expecting? It's a single issue. As pp pointed out the WEP, a much more established party with more money, didn't do any better.

Bev White (St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire) got 274 votes. 😊
Nearest candidate to me, but not in my area. (I ended up voting for the local independent candidate.)

Katherine Longthorp (Oxford East) got 337 votes.
Nearest candidate to my mum, but not in her area either! (My mum voted SDP.)

I voted for Bev 👊

Zeeze · 05/07/2024 12:21

My POW candidate polled better than 2 other independents in the constituency. I voted for her but she was pretty much invisible to most.

Most people are more concerned about getting rid of the Tories, local big stuff like the Grenfell legacy and issues like Israel/Palestine. The turnout was low, more and more people are turning away generally.

No, I'm the hyperbole on here that a silent majority of women agreed that trans issues were their biggest political concern turned out to actually be a tiny proportion of actual voters. But sure if you want to see getting less votes than a joke party celebrate away.

Do you think getting no seats is doing just as bad as getting a seat?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 12:31

Did WEP get a seat then? Sorry, I missed that. Whereabouts?

More votes than other single issue parties too, longer established.

You can call the Monster Raving Loony Party a joke party - but again, they've been around 40 years - longer than the Liberal Democrats, so whilst they are indeed a protest party, they're hugely experienced and clearly motivated (although to do what is debateable).

Ramblingnamechanger · 05/07/2024 12:38

KJK sounded very clear in the hustings where she was actually allowed to speak. That was why those women were there …to stand up and clarify the issue of women’s rights being removed to satisfy men’s desires. The points were made. In Bristol people voted and ejected an Mp who

Ramblingnamechanger · 05/07/2024 12:40

Oops … had been a good MP but who really hadn’t spoken out about the issue. Let’s seen how Carla gets on. Don’t hold out much hope for rational contributions on this though

I would say WEP did considerably worse. Despite being an established party they only managed to put up 4 candidates for election, compared to POW's 16. And WEP's candidates only got a similar number of votes to POW's.

JulesJules · 05/07/2024 12:49

They got just over 5k votes (which is twice what the Communist Party got). It's really about publicising the current issues for women rather than winning seats though isn't it?

XXRepealtheGRA · 05/07/2024 12:54

I think for a new party POW did incredibly well standing 16 candidates and I hope mumsnetters join POW as members.

Regarding the number of votes KJK got I think local people always dislike someone being "parachuted in" and although she hoped it would be good for publicity I think for politics she needs to represent her own constituency, I'm sure she's very popular there. She needs to build up her local vote which I bet she could do.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/07/2024 12:57

Yes I think that's a good point @XXRepealtheGRA

Kendodd · 05/07/2024 13:04

What was the aim of this party being formed and standing?
If it was to highlight an issue, unfortunately, I think it's backfired, it looks like nobody cared, or worse, take the opposite view. I suspect PoW is nothing more than a vanity project for KLK.
Do we know who's funding them? It's not cheap to stand and I don't think they got any of their deposits back.

Cangar · 05/07/2024 13:05

I’m amazed KJK did so badly. We have a guy in our area who stood so that his pub name would be on the list and he’d get some publicity for it. He managed 349 votes while explicitly saying he didn’t expect anyone to actually vote for him.

You don’t understand why a bunch of local people not wanting to vote for mainstream parties might vote for the local pub?
