What I once saw in him as virtue was really a hubristic self righteous smokescreen.

That perfectly describes so many lefty men! Gender ideology has helped a lot of them out of the woodwork. To the extent that I’m now actively wary of virtue-signalling, supposedly feminist ally men.

If it is Edendale it's lame in the extreme. Would love to know how much money he's throwing at this 'PR strategy'.

I wonder if PR advisors have told him he should be addressing it publicly and he’s refusing so they’re running out of stuff to do. He can’t really move on while just not saying anything.

(Not suggesting he has any right to move on IYSWIM, but it’s what tends to happen. At his age and level of wealth I think he should apologise, be humble, lie low and focus on being as decent a dad as possible.)

I suspect Edendale are extremely frustrated at this stage. His arrogance (and, I suspect, lies about the true nature of the whole situation) means they've been unable to manage the situation the way they usually would (see previous clients). He's made them look bad - the inconsistencies mean the fandom has kept the story alive in places they can't control.

When I saw the Redemption thread on neiluncovered, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was posted by his PR company fishing for ideas on what to say in his elusive statement.

Or fishing for feedback.

I've been thinking about Clarissa Pinkola Estes and her writing in Women Who Run about the Bluebeard story and her consideration on how and in which ways redemption is possible for transgressors.

Not impossible. I don't think his problem is with his peers. And given how valuable his IPs are, lots of people in publishing will overlook his behaviour if he can cook up a vaguely plausible account of these encounters being consensual.

The big unknowable is the fandom. Think of his specific appeal to damaged and vulnerable young people, and how they'll react to him being unmasked as... basically the villain in a Neil Gaiman story.

But I'm quite cautious about that because we've seen with JKR that the noisy Extremely Online part of the HP fandom is not very representative of the HP fandom. That's something his handlers will be thinking about.

I can remember at university in the 70s & 80s, realising that men who said they were "feminists" were using it to hot on me, and they were usually the most narcissistic and self-centred men around. The hippies were the worst.

I came to the conclusion that I'd rather deal with a bit of socialised/conditioned mild male sexism, than the holier than thou mansplaining "male feminist."

According to reddit, in May, June and July there was also a massive uptick in the number of new contributors in a NG Facebook group. The inference being his PR company used bots after they new about the allegations and before they were published.

According to Reddit, this timeframe is also when he started to say he had ASD. I have a look back and that was in March 2024.

Autism doesn't stop someone from understanding that "yes" means nothing if you are in a situation in which you can't safely say "no". The millions of autistic women worldwide aren't going around committing sexual assaults.

It is harmful to autistic people, especially autistic women, to try to use autism as an excuse for sexual assault. Autistic women have a 90% lifetime chance of being sexually assaulted. We are far more likely to be victims than perpetrators and NG has no right throwing us under the bus like this.
