A female member of NHS staff in Fife is taking legal action against the Health Board after they suspended her for having the temerity to assert boundaries when a male colleague entered the female changing room; rather than Being Kind about his super-special sense of self.

Makes a mockery of all the politicians who insist women have protections from the Equality Act so there are no problems.

What are Labour going to do about this problem that keeps happening?

Labour will probably make it worse

Thank you! Never heard that expression!

Me neither, but I like it.

Nellieinthebarn · 01/07/2024 12:13

I think that the next Government, whoever they are, need to be made to take women's concerns seriously. Perhaps its time for something like the Women's Strike like in Iceland in 1975. As women are so undervalued, maybe its time to show them just how essential we are.

I'm not up to speed, so someone enlighten me, please.
So 'Judy' complete with beard could give my mum a bed bath while she is in hospital?

Skyellaskerry · 01/07/2024 12:30

Isn’t this also the case in non-unionised workplaces if employer says ”can use whatever facility preferred for individual’s gender” and everyone is supposed to accept it. Seems also to trump established health and safety re single sex for certain facilities.

Essentially yes. All a man has to do is to say is 'I identify as a woman', and the NHS seem to be absolutely fine with this, regardless of the risk to patients and staff.

If the female patients or staff object to transwomen in bathrooms, changing rooms or giving intimate care, then they should change their bigoted attitude and be more inclusive.

It doesn't matter if the women are vulnerable, are abuse survivors, have dementia or a learning disability, it they cannot accept that Transwomen are women its them that are wrong.

gardenmusic · 01/07/2024 12:33

Where are the 'good' men in this?
The ones who would never dream of going in the women's toilets or changing rooms? The ones who would never want to go in the women's pool, or invade women's groups? The ones that respect our privacy?

I understand that this is Mumsnet, so not an equal number of men posting, but I do not see them protesting anywhere. Am I missing this?

There do seem to be a fair number of GC men, both gay and straight, on X to be fair.

Floisme · 01/07/2024 13:57

To be fair, and off the top of my head:
James Dreyfus
Dennis Kavanagh
James Kirkup
Graham Linehan
Andrew Doyle
Sean Ingle
Michael Foran
Jon Pike
Mr Menno

That's nothing like comprehensive, just the ones who came to mind first.

Janie143 · 01/07/2024 14:20

Harvest festival knickers are called apple catchers where I'm from. (As you were)

LastTrainEast · 01/07/2024 14:45

There are still lots of men who like me wouldn't use a women's space no matter what the rules say. I am mostly on twitter these days though because I can speak more plainly.

Someone asked on there how can you be sure which ones are perverts and that is easy. Any man that enters the woman's space is one. He has outed himself.

No man could fail to see what he was doing to the women/girls and no decent man would want to be the cause of that.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 01/07/2024 15:02

Same old fucking same old.

"A spokesman for NHS Fife said: “We are unable to comment on matters relating to individual members of staff for reasons of confidentiality.
“NHS Fife is an inclusive employer and is committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming working environment for each and every member of its staff.”

Unless they're women, of course, who we all know aren't real people - they're just support humans for men. Keeping women safe from indecent exposure, sexual assault and harassment doesn't come under 'safe and welcoming', obviously. Why ever would it, they're only half the population, we can't be expected to cater to such a small number of people after all. Oh, hang on... Hmm

Do they actually fucking hear themselves when they spout this utter fucking bollocks?! Complete wankers.

Jesus I'm angry. 24/7. So fucking angry.

gailforce2 · 02/07/2024 09:02

There is a report on this in the Daily Mail on line today with 1,000 comments. Off to have a read of the comments...

Agreed. My rage is increasing daily. Why are we STILL having to fight this shit?

gran222 · 03/07/2024 11:22

I am a grandmother in my seventies and fear for the futures of my daughter and grand-daughters. I admire the nurses both in Fife and Darlington for taking a stand and the brave therapist who won her case with the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre for highlighting that women had the temerity to ask for a woman therapist. It is utter madness. I have never written on a forum before but this matter is too important. The BBC has not reported about these situations - their journalists shy away from honest debate. Our national broadcaster is not only letting women down but ignoring the whole scandal of what is being told to our children and vulnerable confused teenagers. It is a disgrace.

There are several of us, who post on this subject, condemning them men abusing the systems like this.

Datun · 03/07/2024 14:24

Jesus I'm angry. 24/7. So fucking angry.

It never stops.

And that is the upside of this issue. It has created what I call late onset feminism, in so many women, me included.

The blatant, rank, gleeful sexism demonstrated by this ideology can't fail to hit between you between the eyes.

Suddenly all the things make sense.

And it's no surprise that feminists saw it first, since they're hyper aware.

And, now we know why they're so fucking angry.

Because I'm fuming. And it hasn't stopped since the very beginning. It just keeps going.

And it's not just the people advocating for this ideology, it's the fucking, mind numbing, apathy with which so many other people greet it.

That's a whole new rage fest by itself!

But, it has to be said, if you're not angry, you're not bloody listening.

FallinUltra · 03/07/2024 19:28

Namechange98242 · 01/07/2024 09:27

Exactly!

Labour says that biological women are afforded protection under the 'single-sex' clause of the Equality Act.... (And that it doesn't need clarifying!)

But.... Surely if that was the case, the NHS guidance stating that trans people can use toilets and changing rooms of their 'identified gender' is breaching the Equality Act?? Surely NHS guidance needs changing?

It is not just that the EA isn’t clear, it is also that the single sex exceptions are optional. Now that so many employers, facilities and institutions have made a mockery of that, by choosing not to use them, for fear of upsetting men with dishonest intentions, it is time to make them obligatory.

I think it is clear that the EA isn’t working for the protected category of sex, and we need a separate Women’s Act.

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2024 09:38

A clamp down on reporting of such issues, maybe?

Edited

I fear that this will be the case. Women are going to need to shout loudly and clearly to be heard.

ActivePeony · 03/07/2024 20:27

myotherdogisadonkey · 01/07/2024 10:00

@ArabellaScott exactly,it's like a nightmare. She got suspended. It's a bloody joke isn't it? And I know I keep saying it but where are the bloody trade unions? What have we all been paying into for years? For Len's retirement fund? We need our own trade union. I am so sick of this shite. These poor nurses. It's a hard enough job. Not to mention the suitability of these selfish people having access to patients. (Yes I fully expect this comment to be removed but in what way in these men putting patients' first?)

They are captured almost completely. They will be on the side of the TW not the nurse.

ActivePeony · 03/07/2024 20:28

NewGreenDuck · 01/07/2024 10:04

All is safely gathered in. Harvest festival.

Apple catchers!

ActivePeony · 03/07/2024 20:29

viques · 01/07/2024 10:14

And according to that article, it wasn’t the woman who initially complained, but the transwoman who complained about her “attitude” and her “alleged unwanted behaviours”.

What next, a rapist complaining he didn’t orgasm?
A car thief complaining there wasn’t a full tank of petrol?
A burglar complaining your jewellery box was full of fake Rolexes?

Edited

What a fucking pig that man is. She did not fawn sufficiently or play along nicely and ask him where he got his fucking shoes from. Fuming.

Nellieinthebarn · 03/07/2024 20:32

How dare a woman not follow the brave and special script.

Skyellaskerry · 04/07/2024 06:57

“And that is the upside of this issue. It has created what I call late onset feminism, in so many women, me included.”

This is me too @Datun

gardenmusic · 04/07/2024 07:40

I'm not sure I would pass as a feminist, but I know what is right and what is wrong, and will shout about it.
