Notice he calls it the Equalities Act, not the Equality Act.

Its a small detail, but I'd have thought he'd know the correct name of an act he supports so much. Lots of activist call it the Equalities act, so i wonder if hes picked it up from them.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 29/06/2024 20:46

He's NEVER going to say it, because it would be a lie and he knows it.

Men who "identify" themselves as women will be allowed to access women's single sex spaces - legally - and Labour will not do damn thing to stop them

This is obvious. This is the reality.

PronounssheRa · 29/06/2024 20:52

They are all working from a script, it's a shit script, but they have been drilled to follow it to the letter regardless of the question. Which is why we will never get a straight answer from them.

Someone saying equalities act (ffs starmer you're a lawyer and should know better) is a sure sign the script has been written by a gender ideologue

This is one of my pet peeves - so many people in public life from politicians to civil servants to journalist keep misnaming the Equality Act 2010 and it's like nails on a blackboard for me. It just shows me that they don't know about the topic in as much depth as they should if they can't even get the name of the legislation correct.

I’ve noticed Angela Rayner saying the same. Probably been written into the briefing notes by some right-on intern.

UtopiaPlanitia · 29/06/2024 20:58

Also, I wish journalists would stop asking politicians about whether or not men with intact genitals would be allowed into women's spaces - it just allows Starmer & Co an exception to allow men without intact genitals to have access to women's spaces.

I don't want ANY men irrespective of the surgery they've had in women's spaces or using women's services.

InvisibleBuffy · 29/06/2024 21:04

Getting a bit of a deer in the headlights look to him, isn't he? You'd think he'd have an answer by now considering how many times he's been asked the same question...

Shortshriftandlethal · 29/06/2024 21:08

I'm sick of this now generally popular idea that if a man has had his genitals surgically removed then it is fine for him to be in women's private spaces.
It seems to have taken hold with the public too. A bit like the Eunuch in the Harem - who is perceived as being no threat to the Sultan, his wives and concubines, because he's no longer really a man.

user1471453601 · 29/06/2024 21:24

It just makes me wonder what some women do in the toilets? I go into a sealed unit (as in close the door) have my wee or poo, wipe myself, pull up my underwear and exit the door. I then wash my hands, perhaps 're apply my make up, go back out of the toilet.

when I was much younger and frequented clubs, it was not that off for me to enter the mens toilet, shout out that a woman was going in, avert my eyes as I entered, and use the first available cubical. It was quite normal around that time. I didn't feel like I was invading their space, it was a practical solution to the fact that women need to to pee sat down and ,because they are private.

Edited

It's so offensive isn't it. What about the men who have genitals removed for cancer - they are still men.

Women have been known to do many things in the toilet.

Cry over a bad day...escape from a bad date...clean themselves up after a heavy period...have a miscarriage.

I myself suffered some menopausal flooding at an airport and had to wash out my linen trousers in the sink and dry them under the hand dryer. I was mortified as it was, without having to worry about sharing the space with a bloke.

What do you use the womens’ toilets for? | Mumsnet

Inspired by recent posts on the Radio 4 thread. I realised that the whole ‘Why do you even care who is pissing in the cubicle next to you?’ argument...

It's frustrating that journos only ask about toilets, because that really is the thin edge of the wedge. It's about hospital wards, prisons, changing rooms, rape crisis centres, domestic violence refuges, single sex accommodation especially for scouts, guides, school trips. Basically any any place that needs to be single sex to protect the dignity and safety of women and girls.

user1471453601 · 29/06/2024 21:47

@PronounssheRa yes, I totally under stand the hospital wards ect argument and would support others who stand for single sex spaces.

I guess you are right. The single sex toilet thing is a red herring used by a lazy journalist

Have you thought to wonder what it is that men do in women's toilets?

Plant cameras.
Jerk off while listening to women peeing in the next cubicle.
Rifle through sanitary bins to extract used pads.
Put those pads in their own pants for sexual gratification.
Chuck used sanpro all over the floor.
Pee on the floor.
Pre with the cubicle door open.
Push women into cubicle to assault them.
Intimidate women.

These are all things I have either actually seen, myself, or have read reports of in mainstream news outlets.

Awesome for you. You don’t have a buggy and 2 toddlers and family toilet is full and you have to jam the door open with buggy whilst trying to have a pee

at leat in a womens toilet you know there’s no men watching

try thinking about what other women might experience.

Toseland · 29/06/2024 22:04

I've met 4 blokes dressed up like women wanking in the ladies but apparently I'm a bigot for complaining and should just shut up about it!

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 29/06/2024 22:07

Bloody hell - no wonder stonewall are quiet they're busy writing statements about the "equalities " act for Starmer 😩

Yep. Just had one baby, not two. But had to do the weekly shop on foot, not car, and had no one to watch the baby. So had a pram laden with. Shopping and a crying child while dealing with flooding.

Surorisung how few posters ever think of this. Still no ‘family’ toilets in our area and very few accessible. So even today I would be in the same position as I was then.

Catsmere · 29/06/2024 22:12

I'd love to ask him (all of them, really ) "Why do you hate women so much?" Maybe while attached to a lie detector.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 29/06/2024 22:15

@user1471453601
single sex spaces are safer for women & girls

the societal expectation that men stay out of women's toilets means that the dodgy men who we really need to keep out are visible. We know instantly to be wary if we see a man entering women's space. Good men don't do that.

(I peed in many a men's toilet in clubs in my youth too - the difference was it was my choice, & I - like you- announced myself to allow any objections. A random group of men are far safer statistically than the single dodgy bloke who chooses to cross women's boundaries)

And yes toilets are the very very thin end of the wedge.

Helleofabore · 29/06/2024 22:25

What do women do in toilets?

I have also have had to dry off a rinsed breast milk explosion in a work scenario because I couldn’t leave a meeting and by the time I got to the toilet had breastmilk all over my shirt.

I have had to clean up baby vomit, food from messy toddlers, or even spilt drinks or my own lunch. I come across others stripped to bras drying shirts out, so I know I am not the only one. A woman the other day had red wine spilled down her front and wash in her bra at the pub toilets.

in similar situation to the pram scenario, I had had to take my disabled mother to the toilet in a normal cubicle when the accessible was not available. I had her wherelchair jammed and couldn’t leave her to push it out and close the door. She was very distressed that people could see her but there was no option.

My list is long on ‘how do female people use their single sex space’, it is so much more complex than ‘just want to pee’

Tell that to the men who want to be in the toliets with women and girls. They could just as easily use the cubicals in the mens toilets.
