Some good news for a Monday morning.

Feminists in Brighton have secured a place in the Brighton Pride parade to march for lesbian and bisexual visibility.

Excellent that same-sex attracted women can be proud and visible at Pride.

Allies are welcome to join too www.tickettailor.com/events/sisterssalon/1281981?

Just me that finds this exciting then 😂

I think it's a really significant development that women who champion and uphold single sex spaces are able to participate in Pride.

That women in Brighton & Hove can celebrate their same-sex attraction rather than same gender attraction.

It's been 6 years since the Get the L Out protest and I think we've come a long way.

excellent news, I hope it goes well and they are not attacked in any way

Rightsraptor · 24/06/2024 12:00

It is very good news and I really hope all goes well.

ArabellaScott · 24/06/2024 12:02

Good to hear. Wishing you all well. Brighton looks like such a hostile place for women right now.

Toseland · 24/06/2024 12:12

Are you saying feminists want to be associated with Pride?! I'd run.

lcakethereforeIam · 24/06/2024 12:13

I hope it goes well for them.

CorvusPurpureus · 24/06/2024 12:14

Good luck with it & I hope you stay safe.

SapphosRock · 24/06/2024 12:19

Thank you! Yes it's strategically really positive for women in Brighton. GC lesbians and bisexual women can legitimately be proud and visible.

The TRAs in Brighton are noisy and hostile but there is absolutely nothing they can about lesbians proudly marching at Pride unless they really want to show their homophobia.

Lesbians and bisexual feminists and their allies? For sure. The very people Pride is supposed to celebrate.

There is no point moaning that Pride has little to do with homosexuality anymore without taking positive steps to change that.

I hope you have a great time OP 😄

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/06/2024 12:47

Good to see you again @SapphosRock. Well done with getting your place in Pride and good luck. From what I read here, Brighton needs Lesbian feminist voices shouted loud and proud.🙌✊️

DexaVooveQhodu · 24/06/2024 12:49

Are you sure that this is what you think it is? Will they actually be allowed to hold banners that proclaim their right to be same-sex attracted and not to have a bloke come to their speed-dating events because he wants to identify as a lesbian?

Wistfullythinking · 24/06/2024 13:28

Stay safe @SapphosRock 💐

SapphosRock · 24/06/2024 13:30

Hi @TooBigForMyBoots and thank you!

@DexaVooveQhodu yes the banners will be pro-woman and pro-lesbian. We will be celebrating same-sex attraction and marching as a community group proud to support women (and trans identified females) in a single sex space.

There is nothing inflammatory or anti-trans about that and Price have rightfully accepted our booking.

O tempora! O mores! it took me a frighteningly long period of time - well, a significant number of seconds - to realise that you didn't mean TWAWsConfused
Wishing you a good and safe time at Pride.

HellonHeels · 24/06/2024 13:55

Great news! Have a wonderful time

DerekFaker · 24/06/2024 14:00

Excellent news. I hope you stay safe xx

Wow!

Fingers crossed this signals real change for attitudes in Brighton and beyond (and that you all have a safe and enjoyable day).

I can’t help but wish you were all on a big, high up float rather than marching but that’s my inner worrywart at work. I’ll squash her back down and sit on her!

SapphosRock · 24/06/2024 15:14

I am trying not to be a worrywart too. I wanted to bring my young daughter who is really into feminism but my partner has put her foot down and said it's too dangerous.

A sad sign of the times.

A sad but sensible decision by your partner.

Hopefully this will be a safe and fun event and you’ll be able to take your DD along worrywart free next year 🤞

It was "L with the T", not get the L out.

very different focus, very different rhetoric. Its really not fair to mischaracterise a campaign like that, even if you dont agree with it

sorry! i mixed up the campaigns.... there was a counter campaign that was, indeed, "get the L out" - organised by lesbians who didnt want to be associated with the lgbtq+ community

Does this work both ways? Should I be proud and dance on a float for I only put d* in my face?
the ridiculousness is overwhelming
just let ppl be
