She's pulled out of local hustings because it's not safe for her to attend.

But Don't worry.

Keir Starmer will be along to offer his support to Rosie and condemn these attacks on democracy soon...

I’m actually really shocked at what Cashman has said. Discussing safeguarding children is “right wing” 🤷‍♀️ and dismissing so callously Rosie’s fears for her own safety: he doesn’t give a damn about women and children.

He doesn’t actually need to use words because the string of flags beside his name tells he’s more interested in signalling his identity than playing a useful role in politics.

nauticant · 16/06/2024 09:21

There was also an earlier attempt at damage limitation:

While an earlier tweet, replying to the reliably toxic mimmymum and joinnig in the abuse remains up:

Cashman needs to be held account for his comments about Rosie. Accusing a woman fearful for her safety after receiving death threats of being lazy or ‘frit’ is laying his misogyny to bare. He’s supposed to be a peer FFS.

Agreed but as usual - nothing will happen.

mrshoho · 16/06/2024 09:34

Cashman is a disgrace. That pathetic apology he wrote showed he was only sorry for the damage his posts would do to the Labour Party not for the harm to Rosie Duffield. His comments about child Safeguarding are disgusting and very worrying.

ItsFunToBeAVampire · 16/06/2024 09:18

Cash man has just deleted the post, and posted an apology so it looks like someone's had a word with him.

Excellent responses to him. Long overdue for him to be challenged by the labour party - the misogyny drips out of him.

He really is a thoroughly unpleasant man

Floisme · 16/06/2024 09:49

I assume Cashman is a life peer? What power - if any - does the Labour Party have to discipline him now?

(Yes I know I could Google but I doubt I'd get a straightforward answer.)

Imnobody4 · 16/06/2024 09:51

Rosie Duffield is trending on twitter if anyone wants to like any of them.

Keir Starmer needs to act quickly, his credibility is disappearing at a rate of knots.

He can and should withdraw the whip.

Floisme · 16/06/2024 09:55

Thanks @Imnobody4 - so effectively he would remain a peer but wouldn't have the party endorsement?

Apropos of nothing in particular, you don’t have to be a member to complain to the Labour Party

https://labour.org.uk/resources/making-a-complaint/

Thank you, I’ve complained.

Violetparis · 16/06/2024 10:21

Hopefully Victoria Derbyshire will pick this up and others in the media. Labour candidates doing the media rounds need to be asked about this on TV/radio.

Keir Starmer you fucking cowardAngry

Starmer The Spineless.

WorriedMutha · 16/06/2024 10:43

Wes Streeting was just on Times Radio and condemned the Cashman comments and was very supportive of Rosie Duffield 'and all politicians facing threats'.
He was also explicit about the conflict between the Cass report and conversion therapy. Proper holistic exploratory therapies were not conversion therapy and the Labour Party would be fully implementing Cass.
I hope he really gets it.

FrancescaContini · 16/06/2024 10:47

It’s taken him a very very long time to speak out on the issue, though.

I'm glad he's prepared to actually acknowledge and answer these important questions now rather than just say he doesn't want to get embroiled in culture wars. Starmer's silence is unforgivable though. On a day where he acknowledges the words of the late Jo Cox he can't bring himself to support Rosie Duffield.

That's very positive. He's going to be very influential in government and if he's one of the insightful and ethical gay men who can see the issues about transing away young gay men and lesbians and the harm of all this, then I'll acknowledge that.
He's gone much further than most labour politicians in recognising and acknowledging the harm caused by uttering TWAW and openly apologised for the awful treatment of women. He's under attack from the trans extremists and I'd hate them to be successful.

He can be suspended or expelled from the party.

If you see anyone inside Labour slagging off Rosie report them. She is a Labour candidate for election who is not breaking party rules. Attacking her is harassment/bullying and sexism plus campaigning against the party. During an election campaign they are suspending people all over the place because they are paranoid over looking bad.

You can report members for the following [many TRAs are guilty of a multiple counts of these breaches of party rules]:

A member has discriminated against someone on the basis of that person’s protected characteristic(s)
• A member has bullied, harassed, and/or intimidated someone
• A member has sexually harassed someone
• A member has exhibited clear racist behaviour or has incited racism, including antisemitism and/or Islamophobia
• A member has exhibited clear homophobic, sexist and/or transphobic behaviour
• A member has harassed, intimidated and/or otherwise abused someone/people online (for example, via social media)
• A member has openly campaigned against the Labour Party
• A member has engaged in criminal activity

Remember they are reporting people for knowing biology all the time.

Time to strike back. Take Screenshots, report them.

misscockerspaniel · 16/06/2024 11:08

If Labour was going to implement Cass, why is it not in the manifesto? There is a reason why Starmer is not sticking his neck out on this issue but it is no excuse for not protecting Rosie D. That is inexcusable and the silence is deafening.

After the election, Starmer will be saying that Cass was not in the manifesto but that a ban of trans conversion therapy, was. Go figure, wake up and smell the coffee. He is not being woolly, he is being disingenuous.

Our best bet is to have Wes Streeting as the next health minister and have the likes of us, journalists and politicians such as Kemi B. hold the government's feet to the fire.

I just want politicians to focus on and fix actual problems rather than get drawn into the very concept of culture wars.

Saying you will just end culture wars, is facepalm land. Starmer is likely to have Farage breathing down his neck and this matters and he's not going to let things lie.

You end the culture wars by acknowledging grassroots concerns, addressing them by creating solutions or manageable clear work around for specific situations.

This then stops the unease from the moderates and makes the lunatic fringes look like well lunatics. And kills the space for the opposition to be critical in.

But this means you then have to deal with your own internal lunatic fringe having a tantrum because you havent just done what they said.

For what it's worth, when asking ChatGPT what Labour's manifesto says about the Cass Report, it suggests it commits to implementing it in full.

It is in the manifesto though:

We will work to implement the expert recommendations of the Cass Review to ensure that young people presenting to the NHS with gender dysphoria are receiving appropriate and high-quality care.

There is an internal battle amongst the Labour cabinet over this. Along with a plan for conversion therapy ban alongside supporting Cass is a massive contradiction. There are those who want do gender stuff and those who don't. As you say Streeting is now a sceptic. Not because he is lovely, but because TRA stuff is so stupid it alienates people who used to back it. So if we kick up enough fuss, initiate enough court cases we can fight back successfully as in Scotland. It won't be easy, getting women vote wasn't easy, getting women into professional obs wasn't easy, but it can be done.

Getting Rosie re-elected is part of that fightback.
