She's pulled out of local hustings because it's not safe for her to attend.

But Don't worry.

Keir Starmer will be along to offer his support to Rosie and condemn these attacks on democracy soon...

Gosh I wish there was a way of filtering out nonsense.

The nonsense of pointing out the horrendous abuse and risk that all politicians expose themselves to every day in their public service? OK

I'm not exactly sure why Rosie Duffield is still in the Labour Party if I'm honest.

I'm torn on this one. Part of me is yelling, 'Get out Rosie, get out now!'. On the other hand I do think that the best way she can highlight Labour's incoherence and intolerance is by staying.

But that's really hypocritical of me because nothing on earth would induce me to go back and deal with those tossers again (and I was just a nobody from nowhere town).

I'm sure the abuse combined with the lack of support from within - which she's talked about, e.g. in the Times interview - must be taking a terrible toll and I worry for her.

I feel the same but I honestly think that at this point I would walk. Enough now.

Starmer's words on VAWG are sounding very hollow this morning.

Floisme · 15/06/2024 11:40

Oh I would walk too, but I still think that by staying, she's shining a light on it all that she wouldn't be able to do as well once outside. I admire that but I do worry for her.

BezMills · 15/06/2024 11:41

She's a champ for staying in the party, despite the hostility tacitly condoned all the way to the top

I think shes doing the right thing by staying. There are people who want to bully her away from standing for labour and being an MP at all, so she needs to stand her ground, otherwise theyll do it to every women who speaks out.

ActivePeony · 15/06/2024 12:50

But at what cost to her? She is easily accessible as an MP - look at what recently happened to Farage - and I worry that she will get hurt. She is amazing but I do think that she is trapped in an abusive relationship with Labour.

Againname · 15/06/2024 12:55

should think they are, just behind the scenes.
Stuff like this is what Lindsey Hoyle was talking about when he moved the order of voting round for the Gaza vote.

Behind the scenes isn't good enough when it's not safe for her to attend her own hustings.

Has KS come out and said anything in support of Jess Phillips, Stella Creasey or Diane Abbott?

None of them, as far as I'm aware, were in too much danger to attend their hustings?

Need to point out here that Harriet Harman couldn't reply to Rosie. No one can reply to Rosie's original tweet because of the privacy settings.

I don't use twitter but I understand people can do the same as on MN. Quote posts and add a comment? So Harriet could've, if she'd wanted to show support, done that.

DameMaud · 15/06/2024 13:40

It's interesting, but painful, that it's women like RD and JKR who have a history of being subject to abuse dynamics, that are at the forefront of publically standing up for women at this crazy time.

Their history, I think, is what enabled them to recognise these dynamics at play in the culture in the first place, and inspired and empowered them to courageously stand up for others.

They then have to re-live and face the same dynamics again as they do so.

It's a painful arc to witness, but also I can see how it is part of a healing cycle- and that through it they are serving others through their own process- much like the 'wounded healer' concept.

I don't know what that means in terms of Rosie staying or leaving.

To my mind, whatever she chooses to do, Rosie and JKR are absolute warriors.

PronounssheRa · 15/06/2024 13:54

This isn't really a winning argument because if they answer is yes, then he is singling Rosie out. If the answer is no he is saying nothing while female MPs for the party he is the leader of are facing continuous abuse.

She knows that if something happens to her, then it becomes a problem that can't be ignored.

If she gets hurt then someone becomes accountable.

Whats missing now is the accountability. At the moment it is like an abusive relationship where 'she gets what she deserves' with no grown ups intervening.

Farage also knows this. Every time he gets stuff thrown at him, it makes him look more reasonable to a certain audience and the other side look more unreasonable (not without justification I might add). It normalises him. (Rosie on the other hand is normalised to begin with).

Farage isn't good at political detail and governance. He is good at communications and political messaging. Rosie is good at political detail but is getting a bad press currently because she hasn't the means to compete with the Labour Party machine. If she goes viral though, all bets are off.

I can't stand Farage but he should not be getting milkshakes etc thrown at him. That's unacceptable.

I've checked keir starmers twitter the Labour party's twitter and Angela raynors.

Nothing, yet. But this is violence and threats of violence which is disrupting democracy so I hope to see something soon.....

This INFURIATES me!!!

And I REALLY doubt either of them will say a word because they havnt in the past even when Lloyd Russel was spitting in rage at Rosie.

This is why I will never trust Labour. Can’t trust any of them!

Fair point. I do think Harriet Harmen and Jess Phillips could have named Rosie in their tweets though.

CassieMaddox · 15/06/2024 16:10

ActivePeony · 15/06/2024 14:14

This is the problem. When support is given, its not good enough

BezMills · 15/06/2024 16:12

In a GE campaign, which Labour is apparently keen to win, you'd think one of their candidates being so threatened that they have effectively withdrawn from campaigning, would be a priority.

I looked on Keir's X account today. He has posted condolences to the ex Arsenal player Kevin Campbell, best wishes HM King Charles for trouping of the colour, best wishes to the Princess of Wales following her recent statement, best wishes to the Scotland football team, remembrance to the Grenfell Tower victims. Not a word of support to one of his own party MP Rosie Duffield who is being aggressively threatened. It's disgusting.

BezMills · 15/06/2024 17:24

He disgusts me. He's a coward and a hypocrite.

And to be fair, from the limited menu available, imo our least worst option for next UK PM.

Fuck.

This.

Why on earth should we believe what's in the manifesto about reducing VAWG when this is how he's responding to Rosie being unable at attend hustings.

He's done sweet FA now and that's what he'd do for women if elected.
