Just listened to the latest episode of Rob Brydon’s podcast where he interviews his long-term friend Ruth Jones.

I thought this exchange at the start was interesting - they know.

Ruth: “It's a lovely intro. Very, very nice. It always makes me interested when people describe me as an actor, because I think of myself as an actress.

Rob: I am being very politically correct.

Ruth: You are, but I always correct people's political correctness when it comes to describing me as an actress.

Rob: I'd rather say actress. I would naturally say actress.

Ruth: Thank you. And it's funny because sometimes I've been introduced or I've read an introduction to something I've been doing and they've called me an actor. I said, oh no, I'm an actress.

And they go, well, no, it's our policy to call you an actor. I go, I know, but I identify as an actress.

Rob: Once you decide to identify, won't be tied anybody who gets, I identify as five foot 10.

Why is that funny? That's what I'm identifying as. How tall am I, Ruth?

Ruth: Oh, maybe you are five foot 10. Are you?

Rob: No, I'm five foot seven. Maybe five foot six and a half now. But I'm identifying as five foot 10.

So I'll ask you again, how tall am I?

Ruth: You're five foot 10.

Rob: Thank you. We're too old for all this, aren't we?

Ruth: Oh, I don't understand it. Anyway, you can't even talk about not understanding anything, can you? You just have to go, I'm old.

I can't hear very well now. So just leave me out of the conversation. Thank you.”

I'm getting incel vibes.

It’s a good sign you don’t have a meaningful counter argument if you have to insult or cancel the person.

I'm just waiting for him to tell us we are all ugly and he doesn't to shag us anyway!

Modern feminism created cancel culture, the idea that if you’re not wholly in agreement with their view point you must be silenced immediately. You must be cancelled, your employer contacted, your workplace protested etc etc.

Feminists are the pioneers of the diversity or anything but opinion is vitally important.

it doesn’t matter if a person is clearly wrong if your shout loud enough and scare people enough they will comply.

See the fact women get paid less for being women which is equivalent to women can have penises it terms of rational throught.

Edited

Well, perhaps you tried to answer my question. But your answer is even more baffling than your earlier post.

Your statements on "feminism" and cancel culture are wrong. What you have written doesn't make any sense, logically, linguistically or rationally. Your final sentence

"See the fact that women get paid less for being women which is equivalent to women can have penises it terms of rational thought. "

is literally nonsense. There isn't anything that can be "equivalent to women can have penises".

And you never explained who "we" is/are.

quantumbutterfly · 26/06/2024 08:41

It makes so little sense that one has to wonder about the humanity or the sanity.

I enjoyed the Bryson/Jones banter.

FleetingSeas · 26/06/2024 16:10

Which viewpoint @Laidbackguy? Can you cite examples of women cancelling people? Are you saying women have been shouting loudly and scaring people? Who? When? Where?

And it's clear you don't understand the gender pay gap - it's fine, I didn't either until I looked into it - but I didn't use it as an example like you have...

It doesn’t seem overly complex:

Feminists came up with the idea of you shout and scream loud enough most people will give in.

Another of their tactics is to actively try and destroy anyone who doesn’t agree with your opinion.

These are exactly the same tactics adopted by the trans activists.

Datun · 28/06/2024 06:43

Well you've got that wrong for a start. Understandably I should imagine. Toddlers invented that. Granted, they may have grown up to be feminists tho.

Laidbackguy needs to change his name to something more apt. He really doesn't like women does he...or maybe he's scared of us...or maybe it's something else.

Wilful ignorance and lack of coherent reasoning skills?

I love women, but I’m quite concerned by the direction society is heading.

I think most men are getting quite weary with the constant blame from some women for all their issues.

We’ve been getting the above from feminist that women now get form the trans community for 40+ years.

It’s strange because almost all replies are just attacks or insults rather than actually a counter argument.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/06/2024 08:43

I love women

Except the ones who want a truly equal society?

What do you think men (rather than sexism society as a whole) are being blamed for?

Your previous posts were mainly a series of baseless false assertions. I mean Feminists came up with the idea of you shout and scream loud enough most people will give in. - seriously?

Mate, you're just the latest in a really, really loong line of men who show up here to criticise the women.

It's really not as novel as you fondly imagine. It happens with mind numbingly, tedious regularity.

And you all say exactly the same. Even HQ has a laugh about the one who showed up at night, regular as clockwork. The Midnight Misogynist.

The 'arguments' are identical. From who goes to war, to who works on oil rigs, the fake gender pay gap, and women's expectation that men pay for dinner.

No-one engages because no-one gives a flying fuck what you think.

Or how you try and get women's attention.

I would be remiss if I didn't point out that this is a complete waste of your time.

But yet again, you just insult me rather than trying to show some evidence that counteracts my view.

I’m not seeing a lot of evidence women want an equal society? I see lots of demands that there are more FTSE 100 CEO’s, but where are the demands for more female labourers on building sites? Where are the women demanding all women in Ukraine between 25 and 60 be forced to fight for their country? It seems pretty selective form the other side.

Spot on, Datun. These men are so drearily predictable, aren't they. It's like trying to reason with toddlers.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/06/2024 18:39

The onus is on you to back up your made up facts statements not for us to prove them wrong.

Runningupthecurtains · 28/06/2024 18:41

Laidbackguy · 28/06/2024 18:32

They should be really easy to prove wrong?

That one has already been proved wrong. See toddlers got there first.
But which feminists do you think were were first to scream and shout? Give us a date and we can prove that you are wrong. Your points are so vague it's hard to prove them wrong because it's hard to work out what they mean.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/06/2024 18:42

where are the demands for more female labourers on building sites?

An equitable society doesn't mean everyone doing exactly the same things, especially where physical capabilities are concerned - I'm sure you've noticed dimorphism? Men are, on average, better suited to manual labour. OTOH they're 100% useless at the type of labour needed to produce new humans.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 28/06/2024 22:48

I taught myself to bricklay via YouTube videos. Would never be able to do it professionally because my hand span is too small to be able to hold a brick in one hand while trowelling mortar with the other. I can build a wall but only using a slightly arse about tit self-devised technique that takes longer than the proper way.

You’d need to make bricks smaller before women would be fast and efficient bricklayers, which obvs means more bricks per property and new lady-bricks not matching old blokey-bricks.

I’m slightly taller than average and wear ‘one size’ women’s gloves, so it’s not as if I have freakishly small hands, just female sized hands.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 29/06/2024 08:21

My hand size is 7-8. I have a picture somewhere of my hand on top of a 'one size' glove and it's comical, like a small child wearing Mummy's shoes. Any brick laying I tried to do would take forever.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/06/2024 08:42

In a 'what do you want to be when you grow up' lesson when she was 6, my DD said a builder. The teacher bluntly said 'girls can't be builders'. DD was furious when I picked her up - thus was a feminist created. Fortunately she meant more broadly 'someone who builds things' - she's now an electronics design engineer. A 'builder' in a field where small hands are an advantage ... but women are still woefully underrepresented in.
