If she had integrity she'd have answered the question about Gaza. She didn't, cos she knows her answer would have been unacceptable to many.

She has a brass neck and supreme confidence of her opinions at all times. That's not the same as integrity. See also: Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage

Fwiw I thought td's response on gaza was the best thing she said all night.
And I thought kjk's response was fine
And, hey, you do you and all that.

KJK is going to get barely any votes. She picked the wrong constituency due to the competition between Denyer (TWAW) and Debbonaire (GC friendly).

I'm still not sure why or how that happened. Also not sure what happened to her LWS event yesterday.

How many times do you need telling that she's said herself she's not doing it for votes? She's doing it to get sunlight on the issues.

Joleyne · 03/07/2024 14:11

If that was her intention, I think she missed by miles.
She'd have got more sunlight if she'd challenged one of the TWAW MPs, for whom this is a top issue, and got a real debate going.

It was fine, it was diplomatic. It wasn't "being honest and saying it like it is" as a quick glance at her twitter will show. So I thought it was a bit "off-brand" for her. If I didn't know her and the topic was important to me I'd Google to see what her opinions were.

Also don't think it did her any favours at all to be sat next to Reform dude. All his nodding to her points will have been off putting to a lot of people. I wonder how they picked the seating order.

Exactly that.

She literally said it at the beginning of the hustings, FFS. It's not going to come as a shock to her.

Tenuously linked, but I see that Billy Bragg is on X trying to get the troons to vote Lib Dem in non-labour seats so that they become the official opposition.

I am so cross that Rishi called the election so early so he could get the family over to California before term starts. Kemi was so so close to beginning to sort out the current mess.

Exactly that.

If KJK cured cancer you'd find a problem with it somehow.

😂 of course she was!
Or she sat on it to try to use it for electoral advantage! Who knows? It's a mystery

Turboislander · 04/07/2024 09:06

Thangham has been far too quiet on the issue but there is no doubt where the Greens stand. I'd rather have an MP who didn't do enough than one who actively works against women. Labour are the only people who can keep the Greens out. A plea to everyone in Bristol Central - hold your nose if you have to, but give Thangham your vote

Drandthemedics · 04/07/2024 13:37

Why did kjk stand? I thought the whole point of the POW was to shine a light on women’s rights. Where were the great debates? The reports? The sunlight on the issues? All I saw was division and really horrible in fighting

who did you expect to report it? The BBC with their over 70 articles praising Pride this month alone? I did however, see gender repeatedly mentioned on the front page of papers and candidates repeatedly asked questions about this. That wouldn’t have happened without joint efforts from various women’s rights campaigners including KJK.

PainOngoing · 04/07/2024 15:27

KJK got my X today. Hoping it'll put a rocket up Thangam's bum to not be such a pansy about the issue of women's rights and perhaps speak up more next time. Felt good not to spoil my ballot at least (which is what I was going to do before).

It won't if Denyer gets voted in instead, will it?

Well if Denyer gets voted in, don't you think Thangam will find it harder to bury her head in the ground?

Anyway, bit late to tell me how to vote now 😛

CassieSaysGoodbyeTories · 04/07/2024 15:50

It won't be relevant what Thangam thinks because she will just be a member of the public like you or me.
Unless she gets put in the Lords I guess. But even then she won't be making policy.
This is part of the issue. Women voting PoW to make a point to Labour in Bristol are going to get Green instead. Which is an own goal as Greens are unequivocally TWAW.
Anyway never mind. It looks like Green have the edge anyway tbh.

duc748 · 04/07/2024 15:53

Despite weeks of pestering, women on MN just won't do what you want them to, will they, Cassie? Shame about that.

Omlettes · 04/07/2024 15:54

BackToLurk · 09/06/2024 11:01

That's the quandary isn't it. Do you vote PoW, possibly enabling a Green win, or hold your nose and vote Labour. In a different constituency it might not matter, but Thangham is definitely better for women than Carla. Who do you want voting on these issues in parliament?

Andddd just seen @RebelliousCow said much the same

Edited

I strongly advise TD given its crucial to have sane people in Labour and its a tight seat.

CassieSaysGoodbyeTories · 04/07/2024 15:54

I couldn't care less how people vote. Just joining in the convo. I know the constituency well so I'm interested.

CassieSaysGoodbyeTories · 04/07/2024 15:56

I also still think it was a very bad choice for KJK to go for this constituency. But I guess she understands her logic.

PainOngoing · 04/07/2024 15:56

I think it's a case of agreeing to disagree here - I think that voting PoW if that's what you want is going to make a statement. If we get Greens for 4 years, so be it - maybe Thangam will take to the streets with us to march for women's rights now she's likely to just be a member of the public. Likewise, if Labour still win overall but with less of a majority than they thought then maybe they'll be better at listening to women?

Voting is just one way of making a difference politically - yes it's a big way, but I don't think tactical voting has as much clout as voting for who you actually want.

Yeah that's fair.
I'll be interested in the votes here after watching the hustings.

Yes, super excited to see what the outcome is. Even if it's Green...

Maybe if the outdoor environment improves in Bristol, more young people will get outside and off the internet, and discover reality in all its glory😂

Sausagenbacon · 04/07/2024 16:15

I think Greens would lose just as many votes as Labour on this I.e. not many.
Labour will lose votes because of the gaza issue and people 'wanting a change'.
