As a gay man, I'm the last person to know what a woman is"

I bet he knows what a man is, though.

She should have asked him if he'd have sex with or feel comfortable in an open plan changing room with a transman.

I mean he could lie, I suppose, but often it's obvious when people lie about this. And I'm fairly certain the answer to that question is 'no'.

Also - isn't pressuring lesbians to have sex with lady dick a bit homophobic? I wish KJK had managed to grill him on that.

It's depressing that a gay man who wants to be a politician is so homophobic against same-sex attraction.

I thought Thangam Debonnair was consistently getting the most applause of anyone. It seemed a bit muted for Denyer.

TD is very popular locally and is known as one of the hardest working MPs.
I really wish KJM has chosen another MP to challenge.
We need all the decent MPs we can get.

But she was never going to win and she knew that. That wasn’t the point of standing.

I thought the point of her standing was to challenge the genderist Labour MPs and force the Labour party into a discussion.

TD is GC. She was always going to have a hard fight with the Greens and the TRAs in her constituency. They're already claiming she'll lose because she's a "TERF".

MPs like Dawn Butler or Nadia Whittome would have been a better choice and they most certainly would have taken on the challenge.

Omlettes · 02/07/2024 21:39

I lived in Bristol for many years and was in the GP alongside Carla Denyer and just to say she is utterly ruthless, but not particularly bright, a 'Head Girl' very much looking for male approval. On the otherhand Thangam Debonnair was by far the best MP of any party.

In fact I would go further to say she is the best MP bar none in anywhere Ive voted in the UK. Responsive, informed and on the ball. I really hope KJK doesnt bleed her votes because its a very tight contest and could easily swing to the Greens.

Sausagenbacon · 02/07/2024 22:10

I would love, just once, if anyone could demonstrate in what way TD has demonstrated she's GC.
An actual speech, or action.
I find it insulting that she has done nothing, but gets the badge of being GC.

"Telling women what we can wear, denying our agency and our choice to be in a place of democracy wearing purple green and cream - still happening in 2022 and still why we still need our feminism."
Thangam Debonnair in 2022, while wearing those colours in Parliament.

I believe she also spoke out against the attack on the WPUK Fringe meeting at the Labour conference when the TRA mob were hammering on the windows.

Sausagenbacon · 02/07/2024 22:45

Thanks. Good point, I'd forgotten that.
But , for me anyway, it's not enough given what's been going on and, of course, a vote for her is a vote for Labour, which I can't do.

And, tbh, watching her closing speech at the hustings, promising to make it easier for women to leave their children for someone else to bring up so they can go to work (stay at home mothers? How awful) isn't my kind of Feminism

Seriously? You want to impose you own views about motherhood onto other women? That isn't feminism either. Women should have the freedom to exercise their own choices. And the ability to minimise the risk of becoming financially dependent on an abusive partner.

IwantToRetire · 03/07/2024 00:35

I cant be bothered to find it, and may even have posted this before, but on the other thread women who are in Bristol and involved with women's groups say that TD has been worse that useless for women's sex based rights.

When it became clear the council were NOT going to fund women only services, TD refused to get involved.

Wearing ribbons to Parliament or whatever is fatuous and meaningless if you aren't prepared to actively use your position to influence decisions on behalf of women's sex based rights.

So even if Bristol Council is the primary culprit she has stood by and done nothing. ie Bristol is now on a par with Brighton and Edinburgh.

Seriously, how can anyone think she is of any use.

Deeds not words.

Yes, women should have exactly this freedom. But I'm tired of this being presented by politicians as the best route women can taken

Debonnaire is of more use than someone whose behaviour causes most of the uninitiated to write off the GC movement as a bunch of bigoted fascists.

And certainly more helpful to the GC cause than Carla Denyer would be.

I think Denyer will win though.

Sausagenbacon · 03/07/2024 08:19

How, exÌŒactly, is she more use.
From a GC stance?

OP posts:
Joleyne · 03/07/2024 08:22

When you consider the constituency she represents, it was incredibly brave of her to do as she did.

I want women centring women's concerns in politics. We need more female voices. We need women who will be taken seriously.

Sausagenbacon · 03/07/2024 08:26

No

She's paid to be brave.
How brave do her constituents have to be, who have no single sex refuges/help centres.
Brave isn't protecting your seat

OP posts:
Joleyne · 03/07/2024 09:28

Have you forgotten how violent the TRAs have been in her constituency?

It will be interesting to see if Conservative GC voters are prepared to vote for the only GC candidate actually capable of keeping the Green genderist candidate out.

Sausagenbacon · 03/07/2024 09:36

I repeat, she is our representative. What is the point of having a representative who won't represent you?
Not worried about the tories, they won't get in. I'm voting for someone with balls. Metaphorically speaking. Kjk

OP posts:
CassieSaysGoodbyeTories · 03/07/2024 09:39

KJK is going to get barely any votes. She picked the wrong constituency due to the competition between Denyer (TWAW) and Debbonaire (GC friendly).

I'm still not sure why or how that happened. Also not sure what happened to her LWS event yesterday.

Sausagenbacon · 03/07/2024 09:42

I don't care. She is a brave woman. She'll probably lose her seat. But I am lucky enough to be able to vote for someone with integrity and I will
