Thangham is an excellent local MP, but she sees feminism through the spectrum of opposing the Patriarchy and will not engage on GC issues. As if the whole TWAW isn't an expression of the Patriarchy.
TBH I feel she has to tread a very careful line on this.
But I will not vote for her because of what the Labour Party stands for.

I'd think this is what KJK wants to draw out of her then: unequivocal statements about what she really believes.

@testing987654321, KJK has already said on a number of occasions that she's doing this for sunlight, not for votes.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 09/06/2024 12:35

Yes @NoWordForFluffy and it’ll be interesting to see if Thagham gets dragged into “are TWAW?” & other stuff whether Labour will despatch back up or leave her twisting in the wind?

fabricstash · 09/06/2024 12:35

Labour will almost certainly get in and I want good MPs in that majority. People like Thangham not Dodds. She does tread a careful line and in Bristol I can see why but the mood on the ground in Bristol has definitely changed

Fwiw, I'll be at the hustings and I'm looking forward to hearing a straight answer.

Bristol ranks alongside Brighton as trans central. The council is now held by the greens and lib dems

i don’t know how they will even be able to function with all the literal violence of KJK refusing to go along with the councils policy on transgender inclusion

What is literal violence?

What is literal violence?

A phrase used by transactivists and gender ideologues on social media to describe how unsafe and threatened they feel when others state incontrovertible biological facts or use sex-based pronouns and name an individual's sex rather than going along with their chosen gender identity.

Sausagenbacon · 09/06/2024 12:42

If she really cared about Women's Rights, wouldn't you think she'd have made some kind of statement, as it's in her area?
But nothing.

I emailed Thangham a few years ago about this issue and she sent a really considered response, she had a background in DV/SV and i think can definitely be trusted to prioritise women’s rights. I’ve always felt confident in voting for her.

I didn’t know KJK was in Bristol, i thought she lived in London.

JoandArcFeminist · 09/06/2024 12:48

maybe once we've got our mps in place it'll be time for another push on letters / contact with concerns about GC issues (and other women's issues too!) - deffo more on my radar in terms of how to approach politicians. not something i did much of before.

I had it in my head Thangam was GC on the down low so i'll be interested to hear it from her more clearly!

and yeh fml the Raquel Rosario Sanchez stuff. so bad.

literally saw video of someone i've worked with screaming at her going into a meeting in bristol 😬 RRS is so likable and completely unobjectionable it just shows how mad all this is

fabricstash · 09/06/2024 12:55

Sausagenbacon · 09/06/2024 12:41

As I've said, Thangham is a great local MP. But does anyone remember Rosaria Sanchez?

Not a squeek from Thangham on this.

Was Rosarias case against the university? I think the tide has changed - even in the university. I am fairly outspoken in Bristol but there is a line to tread. She has spoken up more since 2022 I would say. She is supporting of women's sports as part of her brief and never heard her say TWAW

JoandArcFeminist · 09/06/2024 13:05

interesting and good to hear about the uni!!

and yes good to know theirs some women about it does feel isolating out here 🧡

Sausagenbacon · 09/06/2024 13:15

. She is supporting of women's sports as part of her brief
Does that mean that she has come into the open and said that tw shouldn't participate of women's sport? I would be delighted and surprised if she had.
In the end, she is Labour. Who are dreadful on this issue in Opposition. God only know what they will be like in power with a strong majority.

Carla will be significantly worse. Bristol is not a safe Labour seat in any way

Sausagenbacon · 09/06/2024 14:27

yes, I agree to that.

OP posts:
Sausagenbacon · 09/06/2024 14:28

Carla's publicity has focussed not on Green issues and policies, but on Not Being Thangham. Which is pretty pathetic.

Totally agree.

If that is reference to me, I'm in another Bristol constituency, just moved out of Bristol Central so I'm still interested!

fabricstash · 09/06/2024 16:01

I don't mean to have a go! I just think Carla getting in will be very problematic long term

no i agree, if i was still in central i'd be going for thangam for sure!

zibzibara · 09/06/2024 17:22

Anyone remember the days when the Greens were all about environmental issues? Feels like such a long time ago!

Totallymessed · 09/06/2024 17:32

I'm also in Bristol. Carla Denyer would be a disaster. I hope KJK knows what she's doing.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 09/06/2024 19:34

I can't remember the last time I actually saw Thangnam in person though - think it was just before the last election, she's not particularly visible
