"Gender critical beliefs are not mentioned in the Glamazon course material, begging the question of whether Amazon is aware that in the UK those beliefs are protected by the Equality Act. "

Amazon EDI training compelling staff to use preferred pronouns “at work and in your personal life” – The Free Speech Union

Amazon UK employees are being told to introduce themselves with their pronouns "whenever you're introduced to somebody new", and not just at work, but "in your personal life to establish pronoun sharing as a standard practice with your... community".

EDI = Exclusion, Division, Indoctrination

Time to resist being on Amazon Prime?

Myalternate · 05/06/2024 16:10

So pleased that I don’t work for a dictatorship. I’ll be polite when necessary but as
I really don’t care anymore. I shall ‘say what I see’ and no one will ever compel me to say otherwise.

SamW98 · 05/06/2024 16:21

Amazon can fuck off

Lets hope someone takes this to court

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 05/06/2024 16:34

Was their legal team involved in checking their definitions, I wonder?

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 06/06/2024 00:10

That really is shocking. Forcing your employees to lie is not going to end well.

SamW98 · 06/06/2024 00:19

Start introducing yourself with your pronouns. Whenever you’re introduced to somebody new, it’s easy to state your pronouns alongside your name. This helps others understand how to refer to you in the future, and encourages them to also share their pronouns
Do this at work and in your personal life to help establish pronoun sharing as a standard practice with your team, your business org, and your community.

Seriously if I meet someone for the first time and they say ‘hi I’m Sue and my pronouns are she/her’ I would think ‘fuck off and never attempt to engage me in conversation again’

Honestly this bollocks absolutely boils my piss

Edited

Maybe they are hoping to increase productivity by reducing conversations?

Seeing as the only Amazon people I interact with are the delivery drivers who are pushed for time as it is, I can't see this working. Ditto the people in the depots working all hours.

Yep. Mine usually knock and run anyway so I only ever get to see the back of their head as they jump back in the van

Yes especially Indoctrination

“Hello, my name is Viques, my pronouns are she and her because I am an English speaking adult human female and my right to be gender critical is supported by UK law. Welcome to Amazon, I am sure we will have a fruitful working partnership.”

Is that the sort of introduction they mean?

makeanddo · 06/06/2024 09:52

This is me in that scenario:

Me: nice to meet you
Person: hi, I'm Sue she/her
Me: hi Suesheher, unusual name! where do you work?
Person: no, my name is Sue, my pronouns are she/her
Me: oh ok, but why are you telling me your pronouns?

Etc etc

Yes, this. If the big bearded delivery bloke is given such a tight schedule that he doesn't even have time to knock on my door to tell me that my parcel has arrived, I can't see how he'll magically gain enough time to knock, wait for me to answer and then inform me that he isn't a she/her or a they/them - just so I know how to refer to him on the many occasions when I regularly discuss him with my friends and colleagues.

Not that I could care less what sex the person who brings my order is, anyway.

If only this is what all EDI people do.

SirAlfredSpatchcock · 06/06/2024 10:15

It never ceases to amaze me how bigoted the people are who insist that we make everybody we meet aware of our pronouns, but not our species.

If I meet somebody who merely looks like a human man, how on earth am I meant to know whether that individual is actually human at all, and not a llama, gerbil or albatross, if they only tell me their pronouns but apparently want to deliberately leave me confused and at risk of causing embarrassment to everybody involved by using the incorrect labels and descriptors for everything else about them?

Also, why do they not routinely confirm their age as part of their 'meeting somebody for the first time' bio? Don't they care that everybody will cringe when, having been deprived of this essential personal info, I accidentally refer to them as a bonnie little new bundle of joy and comment on their beautiful delicate, soft, smooth skin when, completely unknown to me, they're actually 96 years old?

It's the same ladder of crazy; it's just a case of how far each person on it has chosen to climb.

FrancescaContini · 06/06/2024 10:19

Quite. We can put people on the moon but are still struggling to work out which humans are male and which are female, apparently 🤔

Chersfrozenface · 06/06/2024 10:19

Hi, my mame is Chersfrozenface, you can call me Cher if you like, I was assigned Libra at birth and my favourite gemstone is opal.

VinnieVanDog · 06/06/2024 10:20

I've been boycotting Amazon every since DS worked for them and they treated him like shit, so I'll boycott them even more now. They only promoting this EDI crap so they can pretend to be 'kind' while continuing to exploit and degrade their employees.

How do we even know that it identifies as the Moon, and not as Mercury or Omicron-Persei 9, without even bothering to ask it?

Arrogant bigots, the lot of us.

I would reply 'Hi. My name is _ and my pronoun is 'whatever'
