Today I have taken bold action to protect children following the Cass Review, using emergency powers to ban puberty blockers for new treatments of gender dysphoria from private clinics and for all purposes from overseas prescribers into Great Britain.

That is amazing news!

DrSpartacular · 29/05/2024 20:57

Fantastic 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Signalbox · 29/05/2024 21:07

So a 3 month ban. Also applies to Scotland.

Apollo441 · 29/05/2024 21:23

The TRA's are having a melt down.
What good is a 3 month ban? Will this force Labour to say they'll keep it? Surely they said they'd implement the Cass review so I suppose they'll have to.

belgiumchocolates · 29/05/2024 21:24

VA knows her time is almost up so this is a good thing she has done to safeguard children while still in office. Well done to her

EasternStandard · 29/05/2024 21:24

Good news

GennyLec · 29/05/2024 21:36

Good.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 29/05/2024 21:37

What about people like the webelies who are based outside the U.K.? She won’t go down without a fight. Too much £££££££ to loose.

I bet the Fox Killer is incandescent and planning yet another trawl of funding from the gullible for yet another lost case.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 29/05/2024 21:41

This is great news. She couldn't have done more given the election as ministers cannot take policy decisions that bind their successors, though can take urgent decisions.

Presumably a permanent ban would require legislative change. The emergency power she has used will be to ensure no harm is done in the interim. This will fall to Labour to deal with if they win the election.

Ban covers overseas providers.

Hurrah !!!! (common sense much needed up here)!

SofaThrow · 29/05/2024 22:47

It will be interesting to see what Labour do about this - quietly reinstate their use would be my guess.

VinnieVanDog · 29/05/2024 22:48

Thank god the offshore ghouls are included, they should have been put a stop to long ago.

Their prescriptions wouldn't be able to be fulfilled. Of course they could post the drugs but they risk being seized and we may be able to finger anyone sending banned drugs into the country.

I'm not so hopeful.

I will be voting Labour in the GE, for lots of complicated reasons that I can't just ignore, but I feel like Labour will sweep it under the rug with a passage of time, or will use some other nefarious tactic to say since the ban yadda yadda yadda trans mental health has suffered.

I can't help but feel an impending sense of doom about this.

WallaceinAnderland · 29/05/2024 22:52

I'm not convinced Labour would reinstate it. Easier and less hassle for them to allow the ban to continue.

It looks like the ban will expire in 3 months unless the next government take action to implement a permanent ban. It seems this is an emergency temporary ban.

Yes, I think Labour could just let it lapse…

fabricstash · 29/05/2024 23:10

Great news. I agree that labour might not actively reinstate it- particularly as law suits ramp up. Everyone knows now it is a medic scandal

fabricstash · 29/05/2024 23:11

Allowing puberty blockers will not help the nhs

They will still make money from children even if the ban does becomes permanent as it will not apply to those already being prescribed PB. The number of children currently being 'treated' by GGP, according to online sources, is somewhere between 1000 -1200
