I think the greens should promote Sophie and give Sophie an unlimited comms budget. That would be a tremendous help to the cause.

Deciding meeting this afternoon.

Quite a spot the Greens are in. They face outrage, legal action, and attacks from trans activists if they deselect, or ... they will be going into an election with someone who has been openly misogynist on social media, writes songs about 'treading' on 'terfs', and has in the past been delighted to overshare sexualised photos with the world.

I was just thinking that. This will be an interesting test of the Greens.

I am baffled how Sophie got selected in the first place, and I'm intrigued to see how this is going to play out. A couple of weeks ago, Sophie was posting a constant stream of attention-seeking, baiting tweets. It's been toned down a bit recently, but Sophie has also made some fairly outlandish claims, e.g that he attends a women-only rape crisis centre for support, which Sophie says is her right as a woman 😐
I've no idea if this is true, or if it is just another thing that has been said to get a reaction. Not very stable behaviour.

The smart money is on "it is just another thing that has been said to get a reaction"

Sophie's posts from the weekend. Sophie seems to be hovering as close to Maggie as is possible. Why hasn't Maggie endorsed her fellow Green Aberdonian?

I'm pretty sure I know the dude with the beard. Not his name or anything but I've seen him around locally.

Name changed as my usual one on this board says something about me and if he's a canvasser there's a fair chance he could come to my door and I don't want it linked..

Deselected.

Sophie and polycule are now apparently joining the SNP.

It’s a fast moving story. Sophie is now proposing to form a new party:

Honestly, someone needs to stage some kind of intervention. This has been a serious failing of a political party, who surely have some kind of duty of care to vet potential candidates before selection?

I love that Sophie is considering joining the SNP. I mean I know swinney has an apparent death wish (his recent support of Michael Matheson etc) but surely even he wouldn't want this person representing the SNP

Some considerations, perhaps.

Who selects the candidates - local party entity or HQ - and are they willing to vet candidates thoroughly?

Are the selectors capable of undertaking thorough vetting?

What are the selectors' criteria for a good and suitable candidate?

BezMills · 30/05/2024 13:50

Poor old Seethie, but probably for the best

ArabellaScott · 30/05/2024 13:50

Here, one of Sophie's polycule suggests the Greens failed to support a 'vulnerable' candidate. I've no doubt Sophie is vulnerable. 'Vulnerability' should be something that a party considers when selecting candidates.

It is indeed indefendabul.

‘Vulnerability’ should rule any potential candidate out.

Chersfrozenface · 30/05/2024 13:59

Their definition of 'vulnerable' comes from the Oppression Olympics - "well-funded and organised bigotry", "transphobes".

It does not come from any concern about Sparkles' psychological fragility.

ValueAddedTaxonomy · 30/05/2024 14:03

When party members are deselected/suspended, etc, they often engage in quite long processes to have themselves re-instated - because their party, and their life/role within it means quite a lots to them. Isn't it quite unusual for this deselected candidate to immediately announce a total abandonment of the party, even to the extent of announcing that they won't vote for it?

It suggests that the person's relationship with and commitment to the party was extremely slight in the first place. It seems an odd state of affairs if this is the case. You'd imagine that candidates would be people with deep and multiple ties to the party.

AlisonDonut · 30/05/2024 14:05

I am genuinely surprised that he hasn't joined Labour.

This is quite something that even the SGP is not mad enough for all of them to stay!

I see Ross Greer and Ellie Gomersall complain about this show being 'all men' and a 'manel'. Ellie is not happy with Scotland's 'male dominated' politics, apparently.

😶

Is Ellie ever happy about anything, at all? I think we should be told.
