What's happened to the Green Party? Seriously?
Why on earth do they consider that Molly Sparkles person to be an appropriate candidate?
I love Graham Linehan's take on it!

ArabellaScott · 28/05/2024 07:35

I'm delighted to announce the winner of the sweepstake is the ever astute Helleofabore!

A close run race, Helle, but you are the recipient of the Bunch of Dill.

Will Sophie be triggered by receiving an email from someone with the same surname as a Harry Potter character?

Haha well spotted.

I wonder what exactly prompted the suspension? The porn pictures on Tx? The threats? Or did Ms Sparkles stop recycling? That should be an automatic ban from a Green party member...Hmmmm

Can I just say I'm still pretty disturbed by reading that article about Sparkles. It was grim. I feel for the people living in that area of Aberdeen, to have those type of candidates representing them. The pictures of Sparkles also on that campaign march beside Maggie Chapman. The clothes are what a pre teen girl would wear (a wee kitty handbag, something 12 year old me would wear). It gives me the creeps.

Sophie/Molly's wife listed 'age play' as one of his 'kinks'.

There are screenshots.

Yay. But. I think that if we used the ‘closest to’ rather than the absolute ‘before’ you would have won, Arabella. Shall we split the dill?

Either way, it is a win for Scotland and even for the Green Party.

If, even in a seat the the SGP may have judged unwinnable, Sparkles is the best calibre of candidate they can field, it suggests bad things about the party as a whole.

It suggests the party, or at least the numbers active in it, are tiny or they'd have a larger number of prospective candidates almost any one of which would be better than Sparkles. It suggests a degree of capture by people who are comfortable with (or afraid to complain about) rather 'out there' behaviour.

There's group think, a lack of exposure to a spectrum of opinions, in the Greens that, with all the expulsions, looks set to only get worse. Be interesting to see the trantrums and the reactions to the trantrums following the latest news with Sparkles.

AlisonDonut · 28/05/2024 10:58

When this is all over we so need a proper party to just scream and scream until we are sick.

ValueAddedTaxonomy · 28/05/2024 11:11

Just realised that if the SGP used what I understand to be the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland (Alba), they would be the AGP, which seems apt.

There are a few reasons the SGP have been vulnerable to 'take over' from people who have agendas that really are nothing to do with Green core policies. One of which is that yes, they are tiny. Very few members. Secondly, out of those relatively small numbers of members, very few actually get involved in conference, voting, etc. Yet the GP is very democratically run, so anone who turns up to conference gets to vote. It's very easy to game a vote when the result relies on a handful - sometimes literally one or two - votes.

The 'acceptance without exception' has encouraged some people with very extreme views and some extreme sexual proclivities to choose them as the most 'accepting' and 'inclusive' party. Which they are for sexualities, I expect. Not so much for plurality of views.

Amongst other things, I believe Sparkles has a humiliation fetish and now has enough fodder to last for days.

It's the only logical explanation for their constant need for attention

I suspect that even if there were more suitable prospective candidates, the Greens would still pick a transgender person, however unsuitable.

Trans visibility, innit.

Eww. So are we actually feeding this fetish by discussing on this thread??? FFS

Fraid so. Which is why I am going to suggest some more humiliating things for Sparkles to do.

Please denounce the SGP as transphobic bigots for making you stand down.

Say the Terfs were right in public.

Buy a copy of the Women Won't Weesht book.

BlackForestCake · 28/05/2024 13:13

There aren't really any winnable seats for the Greens under first past the post thank fuck. They average about 8% in polls, in really studenty places they might touch 15% on a good day.

They haven't stood in this seat since 2010 and then they got 1.5% of the vote.

BezMills · 28/05/2024 13:41

My local candidate is great but he's been fed to the lions in our newly-split double-dunter constituencies. He's about 17 (23 but yanno) going up against Bob Seely the tory MP of the current super-constituency, and a very popular local labour guy. Plus the usual whacko brexit / reform / disgraced ex-tory councillor shower.

lonelywater · 28/05/2024 13:43

a bit lily livered of the greens to be suspending Sophie now. Presumably they did due diligence on Sophie beforehand so they must have known what they were signing up for? In which case throwing her under the bus now looks like rank cowardice-unless of course they did not do due diligence, but surely, no one, not even the greens are that amateurish or stupid?

Interestingly, Sophie has now posted a kind of apology to JK Rowling on Twitter/X late last night.

Am very amused that they are calling what happened 'doxxing' when the exact sequence of events was that Sophie posted a confidential letter on a social media group, and then someone screenshotted it.

ArabellaScott · 29/05/2024 09:39

That's the worst nonpology I've read for a while.

Wishing the Greens well with Sophie Molly as the face of their general election campaign.
