Even those who welcome a cull should not be impressed by the way it has been done. There are a few more people it would be good to lose but not the right way to do it.

It may be so, but it seems that proper channels and correct practises have been gamed by authoritarian a-holes and there is capture across the board. Doing things the ‘right way’ at this point seems to equate to ‘let the authoritarians have their way’.

I agree.

We have all seen the dangers of the erosion of democracy when it comes to the protection of women's rights. Let Diane, Lloyd and the others stand and let the electorate decide, or use existing transparent and democratic procedures to deselect MPs.

I really don't want a clique of party apparatchiks effectively running the country with the Prime Minister beholden to them.

I am also concerned about the Trump legal cases. The end justifying the means is not the best way of proceeding. Don't make Trump a victim. Instead focus on his policies and past "achievements", or lack of them. Politics not personalities. And democracy above all.

No political reporters that I have seen discuss this - including Chris Mason and Michael Crick - have gone anywhere near WHY Lloyd Russell Moyle is considered dispensable enough to be purged by Starmers advisers.

Which is interesting.

He hasn't been purged. ie there have been no briefings about him liking tweets he shouldn't have, or posing with unacceptable political figures etc..

It seems that they have been pushed into this because a "serious" complaint was made against him, which no one will know what it actually is until it has been investigated.

It could be something in his private life, something about money, his behaviour to party colleagues or ..... ???

He is saying it is malicious, and obviously submitting a complaint at this point is one way of making sure he cant be selected. So rather than malicious it could be a case of you reap what you sow.

Of course, given the implications of an in group running riot, maybe one of them submitted a complaint as a clever dodge to avoid saying he has been purged.

But of course I couldn't possible comment. And nor can the media or anyone involved in investigating it.

Revenge is a dish best eaten cold.

Maybe I've watched too much TV political drama, but this smells of internal fixer stitchup job. I'm crying a river for the guy, in any case

DrSpartacularsUltraFeminism · 31/05/2024 17:43

So, she's now standing in Jess Phillips' constituency...

IwantToRetire · 31/05/2024 17:45

Just have to quote this from an article discussing Labour's selection pantomime, because of the way the author grouped who the real victims of this Labour purge are:

Speak to <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/C476d/inews.co.uk/news/diane-abbott-critcises-speaker-racism-row-engulf-westminster-2960428?ico=in-line_link" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Labour voters of colour, non-gender critical LGBTQ+ voters, Muslim voters, Asian voters, and the answer to that question seems obvious. Labour’s continuing purge of MPs from marginalised backgrounds – and MPs left of the centre – gives the game away. It’s now more clear than ever that there’s a disconnect between what the party says it wants to do and what it’s actually doing.

So maybe I am not uptodate with labels but have never seen this before:

non-gender critical LGBTQ+

But maybe that is an indication that groups such as LGB Alliance of GC feminists have actually made some aware they do not own the LGB or even the TQ+ ...

Can also be read at https://archive.ph/C476d

Labour has been haemorrhaging black voters for years – it just didn't care until now

It’s clear that there’s a disconnect between what the party says it wants to do and what it’s actually doing

I have no idea how to feel about that... bit of a pivot!

If the rationale for standing against LRM was that he’s a heavily pro-trans misogynist, what’s the rationale for this?

What is the source for this? Thanks.

Would have thought that in terms of the media standing against Starmer would be more effective.

So interested to know more.

I've linked it above.

I've linked it above.

Thanks looks like we crossed posted.

Though having gone to facebook page cant see anything about her withdrawing from Brighton seat (where she is officially listed as a candidate).

Hopefully she will release a statement clearly spelling out why she is swapping at the last moment (assuming she can).

Floisme · 31/05/2024 19:29

Is there a story behind choosing Jess Phillips, e.g. some personal history?

If it's explained in the video then fair enough, my bad, but I gave up watching them long ago (too long winded for me personally) and like a couple of other pp, I'm not sure what to make of it.

Have to say I couldn't make head not tail of it.

But important to clarify, as it might harm what she is doing, even if only as a disrupter, to keep switching, or making it look like she just has a personal agenda against another candidate.

She does have a personal agenda against another candidate - to show up that candidates harmful beliefs.

BackToLurk · 31/05/2024 19:36

Jess pretends she says anything but doesn't really because she wouldn't support Rosie Duffield enough, and also read out a TW name in the femicide status.

There was also a bit of ranting about how not enough of "you" are standing so also cowards, and should have principles, like her.

And some segues into how Donald Trump has been treated antidemocratically and that if the government in Afghanistan can get women back into burqas really quickly after the Taliban got in we should be able to put in place an act for women that supersedes the GRA/EA and that's what she'll be talking about.

It was slightly unhinged tbh but I played on 1.75 playback which probs didn't help 🤣

Crouton19 · 31/05/2024 19:45

Layla Moran's seat would have been more appropriate than Jess Phillips, I would think? Or Kate Osborne?

IwantToRetire · 31/05/2024 19:47

She does have a personal agenda against another candidate - to show up that candidates harmful beliefs.

You know perfectly well that's not the point.

She has a political agenda ie women's sex based rights not a personal vendetta against individual polticians.

Although if it is the latter then she is misleading about forming a Party.

Making clever or snipy remarks about an individual fails to challenge the structure and complicity that has allowed the trans agenda to be promoted by so many.

Lets hope she puts out a statement that will make sense to the constituents of wherever she ends up.

IwantToRetire · 31/05/2024 19:50

Strategically I think going up against another woman wont play so well with as a man pontificating about how men can be women.

Crouton19 · 31/05/2024 20:09

@IwantToRetire Ed Davey?

AdamRyan · 31/05/2024 20:55

I think KJK must be targeting a seat where she thinks the incumbent Labour MP might not win, so that KJK can claim she "never loses" and potentially pick up some extra votes.
Jess Phillips has been quite open that she thinks her seat is at risk due to large numbers of voters disaffected with Labour over Gaza. I can't think of many other Labour MPs that look like there is much prospect of losing their seat. So maybe that's it.

The alternative is she thinks it will be click baity because JP has a high media profile.

It is a real shame because Jess Phillips is such a pro-woman MP and there aren't enough of them. Wish KJK had picked someone else.
