There’s an extra special ‘They/Them’ in the cast so everyone has been obliged to state their pronouns for fear of being branded transphobic if they decline. What a load of bollocks!

Absolutely this.

I was so looking forward to the opening of Shakespeare North…but I have yet to go to ANY performances

They seem to be unable to actually stage any Shakespeare that they haven’t messed about with to make trendy or woke. There’s way too many new plays lacking any credentials or “seriousness “….im all for be entertained but it is just so obsessed with diversity first and foremost they seem to have forgotten that most of us just want to watch something without gender, race etc being shoved down our throats in every single show . Maybe 1 or 2 plays exploring it per year…but every thing they out on has to “embrace diversity”.

its ironic isn’t it that 12th night is all about cross dressing, and most of Shakespeare’s heroines had to be played by blokes back then…so there was enough to make a statement about without all the additional gender woo they’re obsessed with. They could have been very “clever” but they appear to not want to try.

yep, I looked at it with a “I wonder if that’ll be worth going to?” Then saw the they/them and he and she’s, groaned and moved on swiftly. Another one I won’t be going to.

Not in the UK, but I often feel this way about theatre now. There are some big very commercial shows that are mostly free of it, but it seems like no one can take any classic theatre without tinkering around with it in terms of diversity initiatives. Often gbgtQ+ but not always.

My assumption is that it's partly about securing funding from available grants. but fuck it is boring.

I had a survey from the National the other day which wanted to know whether my gender identity matched the sex I’d been ‘assigned at birth’. I was unamused.
