WTAF?? Is there anything to make people less likely to attend the theatre that this bollocks?

Is it not because without the special declarations an ordinary person might see a female actor playing a female part and inadvertently commit a thought hate crime by knowing said actor is female?

HideousKinky · 03/05/2024 14:10

I volunteer at a theatre and this is depressingly familiar....

QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse · 03/05/2024 14:18

I don't think I've seen a show at all in the last few years that didn't have cast members pronouns in the programme. Even though 99% of them were exactly what you'd expect them to be.

And, if I were discussing the cast they wouldn't even know. So why would it matter if I were to misgender one of them. Ffs.

Trulyme · 03/05/2024 14:40

Why is Les Dennis being singled out here?

He was obviously asked what his pronouns are and he answered honestly, like the others have (most of them).
It’s the person designing the poster who has decided to include them on it.

I don’t think it’s fair to slander someone’s name, when they’ve not done anything wrong.

Ofcourseshecan · 03/05/2024 14:47

SamW98 · 03/05/2024 10:40

And how would we have known how special ‘they’ are without pronouns?

😂

Because he’s the most well known of them all having been in the public eye for decades with no need for he/him (because it’s not the most interesting thing about him)until they/them (which is the most interesting thing about they/them) decided to thrown them’s weight around and require LD to declare what we’ve all known since he appeared on TV in the 70s - which is that he’s a male born man.

I don’t think he’s done anything wrong - I feel sorry for him for having to work with such idiots.

The title is misleading, I assumed he had made a sexist remark or something.

I don't mean intentionally op

I agree.

I think it’s unfair that he’s being singled out.

threesixnine · 03/05/2024 15:12

"What are your pronouns Les?"

"Well I don't reeeeally knooooow"

MJCadman · 03/05/2024 15:13

I wonder if they actually had to ask him 😂😂

SinnerBoy · 03/05/2024 15:18

Hi!!! I'm Sinner and my pronouns are FO/AD!

It isn't slander. Unless you're saying the "he/him" detail is untrue?🤔

@SirChenjins summed it up: Because he’s the most well known of them all having been in the public eye for decades with no need for he/him (because it’s not the most interesting thing about him)until they/them (which is the most interesting thing about they/them) decided to thrown them’s weight around and require LD to declare what we’ve all known since he appeared on TV in the 70s - which is that he’s a male born man.

Plus the fact he got his very-obviously-male bum out on Extras.

I don’t think it’s fair to slander someone’s name, when they’ve not done anything wrong.

Slander is spoken, libel is written etc.

Defamation is when a person or organisation uses language to ruin the reputation of a person or business. Slander is spoken defamation. Written defamation, or libel, is anything published or broadcast.

What a bizarre take on a lighthearted thread.

Please point out where LD is being slandered (or libelled)

As a PP who has got the point of the thread has said, it’s because he’s a household name and it’s a bit of a joke that after 50 years in showbiz he’s having to be announced as he/him. I imagine LD himself rolled his eyes along with the rest of us.

I disagree - nothing in the title to point towards anything sexist

Yes, I think this too (or I would hope so!) Posters on here have identified the true source of this nonsense in this particular case. And it ain't our Les!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 03/05/2024 13:18

Georgia Frost is too old to play Viola. She couldn’t ‘pass’ as a boy at a hundred paces. Some sort of irony there.

That was my first thought. Maybe more convincing if you're sitting in the back row of the Upper Circle.

takemeawayagain · 03/05/2024 16:08

I couldn't see that picture so found it on another page (if you scroll down a bit) - where Les Dennis' pronouns aren't listed but everyone else's are??

SkiingIsHeaven · 03/05/2024 16:09

Even if I was inclined to go, I definitely wouldn't go now.

Wanky bullshit.

WishIMite · 03/05/2024 16:12

I am 100% reading this as a joke, because the play is Twelfth Night. I'm SURE this is just a funny take on the play's theme.

SURELY?

I wonder which one came first? I like to think he looked at the first version of the poster and told them to remove the ridiculous pronouns from his photo immediately, rather than being forced to add them in by them twat or face having his home address shared on SM.

This has the pronouns (but no bio).

Looking at Frost's bio, Frost has an interesting range of stage and TV credits.

Twelfth Night

Not Too Tame return with their second instalment of Shakespeare, an electrifying production of Twelfth Night, starring Les Dennis as Malvolio

ErrolTheDragon · 03/05/2024 16:20

Yes, I expect they views Viola as nonbinary.

Which pretty much ruins the character. Confused
