She's a cross-dressing character. She's under the umbrella!

Notamum12345577 · 03/05/2024 16:27

It seems to be the done thing now, a lot of big businesses encourage it on email signatures and name badges etc

I was so looking forward to the opening of Shakespeare North…but I have yet to go to ANY performances

They seem to be unable to actually stage any Shakespeare that they haven’t messed about with to make trendy or woke. There’s way too many new plays lacking any credentials or “seriousness “….im all for be entertained but it is just so obsessed with diversity first and foremost they seem to have forgotten that most of us just want to watch something without gender, race etc being shoved down our throats in every single show . Maybe 1 or 2 plays exploring it per year…but every thing they out on has to “embrace diversity”.

its ironic isn’t it that 12th night is all about cross dressing, and most of Shakespeare’s heroines had to be played by blokes back then…so there was enough to make a statement about without all the additional gender woo they’re obsessed with. They could have been very “clever” but they appear to not want to try.

yep, I looked at it with a “I wonder if that’ll be worth going to?” Then saw the they/them and he and she’s, groaned and moved on swiftly. Another one I won’t be going to.

It isn't slander. Unless you're saying the "he/him" detail is untrue?🤔

@SirChenjins summed it up: Because he’s the most well known of them all having been in the public eye for decades with no need for he/him (because it’s not the most interesting thing about him)until they/them (which is the most interesting thing about they/them) decided to thrown them’s weight around and require LD to declare what we’ve all known since he appeared on TV in the 70s - which is that he’s a male born man.

Plus the fact he got his very-obviously-male bum out on Extras.

Slightly off topic but it amazes me how brilliant all the actors were on Extras.

Even Daniel Radcliffe 😮

Peskysquirrel · 03/05/2024 17:06

Wasn't he a bit of a whiny drip? 🤔

But yes, I did love Extras. Bowie my fave, of course.

Wonder if Ricky Gervais would want Daniel involved nowadays?

why does anyone care if there is pronouns on a poster?

RosaMoline · 03/05/2024 17:46

Announcement is also spelled incorrectly, and cockpit does not need a capital c.
very (un)professional.

Edited

This thread might be useful in answering that question. Much will depend on whether people are expressing their actual beliefs or if it's preference falsification that is grounded in the perception of coercion.

Live not by lies: Solzhenitsyn (no tambourines involved) | Mumsnet

There has been such a roll call of courageous women this week: Ceri Black, Jo Phoenix, Maya Forstater and her legal team, Sophie Scott, Raquel Rosario...

If I see any of this nonsense I don’t give them my money!

EsmaCannonball · 03/05/2024 17:53

You laugh, but this came after an 38 hour struggle session where he had to renounce his Mavis Riley, burn all her cardigans and then shop Les Dawson and Roy Barraclough to the authorities.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 03/05/2024 17:58

Since they all have pronouns I suspect it was something that was done for them all. Probably at the request of the they/them.

I went to see Moulin Rouge a couple of years ago and the cast list had a lot of pronouns but they seemed to be optional.

Interestingly, one of the can can girls was played by a man. I was literally sitting in the second row from the back, almost as far from the stage as it was possible to get, and it took me about three nanoseconds to clock that he was a man, even with the costume and wig. He was one of the few cast members who didn't have pronouns in his bio.

eileandubh · 03/05/2024 18:02

I guess in the post-pronouns-world where everyone is unspecific-gender, directors will have to make the characters dogs cross-dressing as cats so the jokes about 'disguises' work. It'll make a change from Weimar Berlin.

I think Ricky Gervais knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote that character for Daniel Twatcliffe - and would probably write similar again 😂

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 03/05/2024 18:07

The they/them in the cast list appears to be the same they/them who posted a photo of they/themselves standing outside JK Rowling's house on Twitter with the address visible.

bolderthan · 03/05/2024 18:22

remind me again @SirChenjins which character, think I need to revisit this?

The creepy teenage wannabe Romeo in Extras - the bloopers are on YouTube, but the episode is hilarious even without them.

bolderthan · 03/05/2024 18:29

thanks @SirChenjins I vaguely remember
and need to revisit as Ricky
never misses an opportunity to make mischief 🤣

menopausalmare · 03/05/2024 18:29

I'm pretty certain I saw Les Dennis' bollocks on Extras so fairly certain he's a 'him'. Still, you never know these days...

bilgewater · 03/05/2024 18:34

How quaint - seems very 2022 now we've had Cass. Definitely one to avoid, so they've done me a favour.

Needmoresleep · 03/05/2024 18:37

Not too long ago I saw a play, from memory it was at North London’s Almeida.

In the programme all the actors were listed with pronouns. However the serious people, the producers, directors etc, were not. Methinks someone, possibly the they/them, was being indulged.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 03/05/2024 18:45

Would've been better if Les had gone for a Family Fortunes style Errr/Errr

MsFogi · 03/05/2024 18:48

There’s an extra special ‘They/Them’ in the cast so everyone has been obliged to state their pronouns for fear of being branded transphobic if they decline. What a load of bollocks!

It's the they/them who doxxed JK Rowling on Twitter.

OMG! He kept that quiet!
