Has she really blocked JKR or was that a joke on Twitter?

JKR, ever the voice of sanity and reason, is against beetroot.

Bindel, that laudable but deluded crisp- hater, is pro-beetroot.

Damn. I love beetroot but I’d choose JKR over Bindel if two of us had to staff a remote lighthouse. I could live without beetroot short term but if we were talking marriage, it would be a dealbreaker. Sorry not sorry JKR.

OnHerSolidFoundations · 24/04/2024 22:18

Love beetroot

IcakethereforeIam · 24/04/2024 22:40

Aside from the aforementioned cake and pickled beetroot (neither of which I've had for years) I don't think I've ever encountered beetroot in a meal. I never buy it myself. So I suppose I'm team JKR, though I am Bindel-curious especially those golden ones.

JanesLittleGirl · 24/04/2024 22:47

It must be a result of where I grew up. I used to go to the market on a Saturday with my DM. Everything was covered in mud. Beetroot looked like muddy rats with their heads chopped off. Also, humans ate taters, carrots and radishes. Every other root vegetable was cattle feed. Yes, I know that taters is tubers and sugar beet is the source of most of the sugar that we use but the point still holds.

ChishiyaBat · 24/04/2024 23:03

Beetroot, is disgusting, it smells and tastes vile to me, I grew up in a pro beetroot house and was almost disowned for my beetroot hating stance😂.

Are you my sister? If so will you just get over it! Just because you don't like it wasn't going to stop the rest of us eating it just about every day.

You missed out on how nice it is having a bacon and beetroot buttie though!

CountingCrones · 24/04/2024 23:17

Beetroot and chard taste exactly like dirt. They are revolting.

In an effort to convert myself, as I love almost all vegetables, I grew some at the allotment. If you can’t love something fresh from the garden, it’s pretty much hopeless…

I still hate beetroot and chard. Possibly even more, after wasting space on the blighters.

Sprouts, on the other hand, are delicious straight from the garden.

@JanesLittleGirl is right - the big Crapaudine ones I grew looked just like muddy dread rats.

I don't think so, but nope not getting over it,. Growing it, cooking it and stinking the whole house out just no.
What the hell, bacon&beetroot that sounds like hell on earth I don't do bacon either😂.

Go to Australia. They put it in bloody everything, even Macdonalds 🤮

Terrible prejudice against Eastern Europeans and our fine cuisine, including barszcz/borscht. Brings to mind complaints about Durmstrang's too-wide catchment area.

Definitely not my sister as she likes bacon.

I can only imagine the horror of yours and hers childhood being forced to live amongst beetroot eaters. It must have been quite awful! 😖

It really was, especially when they would conveniently forget that you didn't eat it and put it on your plate, then the purplely red stink would leak and leach into everything else on said plate rendering the whole meal inedible😭. Honestly horrific, bleak times indeed,
😂.

Ooh! I would be willing to try that!

That is a very pretty colour. I recently bought pink kiwifruit and used it as a topping for my cheesecake. People were expecting strawberry but got kiwi instead. I felt rather smug.

Aww thank you @Boiledbeetle that means a lot 💜. I'm luckily in a better place now having gone nc with beetroot for over 30 years.

New Zealand too, a Kiwiburger has pickled beetroot and a fried egg.

Love beetroot.

Ltb(eetroot)

EdithStourton · 25/04/2024 00:27

But... But... I like both crisps AND beetroot!

<Confused> <= doesn't take much, tbf.

At the risk of introducing a major ideological schism, golden beetroot avoids the stain/colour change issue. Just saying.

Golden beetroot is the Queen of beetroots! Beautiful flavourful. Strongly recommend, esp to fence-sitters!

I think the issue with crisps is not the crisps per se, it’s someone eating them on a train and the spoons being audible to others.

Noisy eating in public should be a flogging offence.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 25/04/2024 06:21

Oh JKR :( Never had her down as a beetrootist

I love beetroot.

Totally agree.
Especially noisy eating of smelly food in confined spaces like trains.

Especially by people playing videos/music/games on their phones without headphones.
