What is actually wrong with Labour?

It was a meme all over social media this morning - why would labour retweet this 😵‍💫? Still the outrage is hiding the abomination that is Sunak's speech today!

They didn't make it? Then why on earth retweet it?! Are they going for the incel vote, or what?

Wtf? Is that real? Didn't they notice the raging misogyny behind it?

What a freaking weird meme.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 19/04/2024 17:23

Years of misunderstanding due to typos/auto cucumber 🤷‍♀️

"Labour - for the men not for you"

Freda69 · 19/04/2024 17:26

I’m glad you spotted that one. Apparently it’s a well known meme and people who don’t get it are boring old f*s or boomers (like me).
It’s horribly misogynistic, not the slightest bit funny and as so many think the same it’s not exactly a great ad for the Labour Party. Do they really want our votes? Probably put out by the 20 year old on work experience.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 19/04/2024 17:28

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Otter2 · 19/04/2024 17:41

In answer to your OP - pretty much everything.

In answer to your OP - pretty much everything.

This is our next government.

It's not good enough.

I saw that this afternoon. They've had six hours for someone to say, 'What the fuck were we thinking?' and take it down, but nope.

Even the sainted Labour Women's Declaration (and I mean that sincerely) have expressed their dismay.

They will definitely leave it up in that case.

I feel both demeaned and raging about this!

I've never voted Tory in my life, and was already having an election conscience crisis. Jesus, I have no more words for this.

Boiledbeetle · 19/04/2024 19:13

it's not often I get to (or want to) say this but I feel this is a fitting occasion ... I won an award once for a paper I wrote on developing brownfield sites!

Yeah, but you were really writing about whether your partner was thinking about other women, weren't you....?

MeMyselfAndMyEye · 19/04/2024 19:17

I actually find this really upsetting. I can't believe it is still up there.

MeMyselfAndMyEye · 19/04/2024 19:19

The Labour Party are so bland so not to upset anybody.....except half the adult population apparently.

AtrociousCircumstance · 19/04/2024 19:20

What the fuck is wrong with these fucking morons?! Sexist memes? Wow they really disrespect women openly.

Boiledbeetle · 19/04/2024 19:20

Swashbuckled · 19/04/2024 19:15

Yeah, but you were really writing about whether your partner was thinking about other women, weren't you....?

I admit there was a hidden message in paragraph 3 on each page where I declared I lay in bed at night wondering if my partner was thinking about other women!

You've read it haven't you!

ScreamingBeans · 19/04/2024 19:22

This actually makes me want to cry.

Remember when Labour looked like it cared about I women? When "Blair's babes" changed the way parliament looked and they looked as though they were really trying to understand the different challenges that women faced that men didn't?

And now look at them. Impossible to vote for. Awful, awful men whose contempt for women just oozes through whenever the grown ups aren't around to keep them in check.

AtrociousCircumstance · 19/04/2024 19:22

The comments reflect what a shitshow this is and loads of calls to take it down. Why is it still there?!

Tukmgru · 19/04/2024 19:23

This is a meme, and a pretty old one at that? Don’t really see the issue here…appreciated not everyone grew up online, as it were, but the ‘what is he thinking’ meme has been around for donkey’s years. The implication is that she thinks he’s thinking about other women, and he’s thinking about something else entirely etc etc. That’s the joke. Feel free to be outraged if you want at the portrayal of women as jealous or something, but honestly this isn’t the worst thing affecting women today.

If you don’t wanna vote labour, you don’t wanna vote labour. But if you change how you vote based on misinterpreting a pretty well known meme then we have other problems.

Political parties rarely pull off memes though - this is an entirely unfunny and somewhat embarrassing example, but misogynist it isn’t.

I actually find this really upsetting. I can't believe it is still up there.

Same, I've wasted half my afternoon because I kept going back to see if it had been taken down.

And to think I felt a tiny bit guilty after my 'full and frank discussion' with a Labour canvasser the other week.

Swashbuckled · 19/04/2024 19:24

@Boiledbeetle

I tried reading it, but I couldn't concentrate because I kept being distracted by the thought that my partner was thinking about other women...

Sorry 😔

Don't worry your pretty little head about it! You should be spending your time thinking of ways to keep your man happy and faithful to be honest not reading intellectual papers on the best way to sort out the contaminated ground on brownfield sites.

LauderSyme · 19/04/2024 19:33

Meanwhile, elsewhere on MN, "Is he cheating?" threads proliferate whilst others posters agree you may never get over a cheating ex....

I agree the meme is old and tired and Labour judged this badly.

BUT

The main thing wrong with Labour, given that they are realistically the only alternative to a Conservative government, is that they do not hold power yet.
