There seems to have been some kind of issue between the two of them today.
What's occurring?

KJK is talking in the context of parents taking back control of their children.

We should not be enabling children to access hormones- including hormone contraception- without parents’ knowledge unless there’s a good reason for that.

Children should be seen holistically, so that they are appropriately treated- autism, eating disorder, self harm should all be considered. That usually means parental involvement.

I don’t necessarily agree, but it is an acceptable conversation to have.

You would think, wouldn't you, that having been on the receiving end of 'No debate! You're hateful! You just hate us!' that the left might approach these conversations with conservatives with more grace. But no. It's too engrained. Conservatives can't just be wrong about something. They have to be 'dangerous' and 'irresponsible'.

"Take back control" is a very strange concept in the case of human beings. I can understand using it about a countries borders, but not about teenagers.

The "good reason" for teenagers to access hormonal contraception without their parents knowledge is it is proven to reduce the incidence of teen pregnancy. Teen pregnancy is risky.

Ironically the sort of parents who want to "take back control" are the sort of parents who's teens aren't going to be open with them if they need contraception, and so are potentially at higher risk of unhealthy relationships.

Having an Internet discussion, started by left leaning posters questioning KJKs position is the opposite of "no debate". I haven't seen anyone use the words dangerous and irresponsible.

No need to be personal is there. Maybe don't put words in people's mouths.

Well done, agent UniversalFamily. Good job. Submit your report and be ready for a Teams meeting with TRA HQ (Whittle chairing) at noon tomorrow.

Given your remarkable success on Mumsnet, we'll be allowing you to take over the Owen Jones X account at the end of the week. See what alarm and despondency you can spread there. Good job no one at MN has ever heard of Lord Haw Haw, eh?

Lion400 · 15/04/2024 15:45

Just the usual suspects trying but failing to cause ructions in the we are women who understand biological fact camp (WAWWUBFC). No big deal. As we were!

I think it’s been broadly positive, @Abeona

No one really buys into the stirring tosh. People just make themselves look very close minded by being unable to process that other people have other opinions.

I hereby declare, people believe different things and have different priorities. NO DEBATE!

MyNameIsFine · 15/04/2024 15:50

Is everybody reading the same thread as I am? The debate we were having was whether KJK was irresponsible in raising the issue of parental consent in underage girls accessing contraception. Some of us said, she probably hadn't got this quite right, but there was nothing wrong with having the discussion. We also didn't think it had much to do with some far right agenda to 'keep women in the home' or that she was the origin of the idea of the right and left linking hands over this. Now, apparently, none of that was ever said. It's really frustrating when threads start to eat themselves like this.

What's occurring?

Nothing to do with abortion or far right agendas. People tried to derail it into these things.

Coffeelovr · 12/04/2024 04:37

Isn’t she a “pro-life” radical? Sorry if I’ve got that wrong but would explain why some need to keep a little distance while concurring on gender

4th post, people started discussing if this was fair. You can't control in what direction people take a debate on a public discussion board.

Quite early on, I seem to remember. They certainly succeeded! 😂

AdamRyan · 15/04/2024 16:38

It looks like Rosie has been keen to distance herself from the contraceptive aspect of what KJK says in the past. Going to the lengths of retweeting LRM which speaks volumes about how strongly she must feel.

Lion400 · 15/04/2024 17:46

LRM 🤢 Incoherent crap from Labour, again.

That’s what “gender critical” is folks - first they come for trans then they come for you

Shut up Lloyd

middledagedjobseeker · 15/04/2024 18:10

Discussions tend to go better if people respond to what others actually say rather than put words in their mouth.

That seems to have been the main issue with this thread.

That and refusing to let annoying things like facts influence your pov.

Apologises. And 'stands by his words'. 🤔

If she really was being hateful, I wouldn't have minded his tone. It's the words I don't like.
