Labour infighting over trans issues reignited by Cass Review

But Rosie Duffield, a Labour MP placed under investigation by the party last year for campaigning against gender ideology, pointed out that women who had exposed the scandal had been “blanked, sidelined and dismissed” by male leaders simply for speaking up.

And feminist Julie Bindel demanded an apology from Mr Streeting for failing to support her gender-critical views when he was president of the National Union of Students.

In reply to Ms Bindel’s accusation, Mr Streeting replied: “From memory (16 years on, so correct me if I’m wrong!) I replied to confirm that you weren’t on NUS’ no platform policy and as this was in relation to a motion passed by the autonomous women’s campaign I was not empowered to overturn it (not least as a male president!).”

This prompted Ms Duffield to retweet the (Les Streeting) statement, with the message: “To the many women blanked, sidelined, dismissed by male leaders when speaking up and exposing this for years.”

And Ms Bindel wrote: “Glad to see you are now openly critical of the gender ideology that led to the atrocities against children outlined in the Cass report.

“I am open to accepting an apology from you. In 2008, when you were NUS president, I was no-platformed alongside five fascist groups for ‘transphobia’.

“I contacted you and asked for your help. You gave none. I asked you to condemn those that had orchestrated the no-platforming, and you refused.

“Have you any idea of the reputational damage this caused me? How it gave others permission to no-platform, denounce and defame me?
“How it meant that I could be slandered by other organisations, and so many, many universities around the UK and elsewhere? If this sounds bitter then good, because I am.”

To this message, Ms Duffield said: “Thank you for leading us all here Julie. Without you, most of us wouldn’t have had a clue what had been happening to children who were far too young to have the critical faculties or agency to consent.”

It was churlish, now the 'head girls' hope to get back into Labour's fold since the odds are they will clearly win the election and want to cozy up to those in power whilst Kellie-Jae and Julia Long will never return and critique away. I have so much respect for them!

Yes me too.

I don't know about the KJK snubbing, either. But, as my grandmother used to say, I'm sure she'll live.

However, I'm bloody glad that Julie Bindel is holding Streeting's feet to the fire.

She sounds fuming. I'm fucking fuming.

There's nothing in that Cass report that women haven't been yelling from the rooftops for years.

Stopping children's puberty, rendering them infertile, and ruining their future sex lives, isn't some fucking esoteric byproduct that no one knew about.

We all knew! The doctors knew. Streeting knew. There's nothing not to know.

Fucking cowardly weasels saw a bandwagon with votes written on it and jumped.

I hope she burns their feet off.

Why so cross with Labour, when the Conservatives have been in power for the duration of the medicalisation of children?

The Conservatives seem to be getting off scot free for the whole debacle. It's weird.

Labour stoked ‘culture of intimidation’ over trans issues, health secretary says

Oh dear god.
So Hilary Cass says "polarisation on all sides" has made her job much harder than it needed to be, and the Health Secretary decides the right response is....more polarisation. Well done. Slow hand clap.

Adam it really is so tiresome - same old shit on every thread. 🙄

It would be nice to see a more balanced debate instead of the same tired "but Labour!!!!" posts at every opportunity, I agree.

I see from another thread that KB is 🤐. Despite being minister for equalities. She does take her time to take a position though.

pickledandpuzzled · 11/04/2024 18:57

Your underlying motives are showing again, Adam.

AdamRyan · 11/04/2024 19:03

Oh pickled i was going to @ you as you said you didn't know about the Duffield thing.

What motivations would those be? The ones where people can have a balanced conversation about harm to children being prevented, without making it all about "culture wars" (to quote the health sec)? Because that would be my motivation, yes.

BezMills · 11/04/2024 19:05

What motivations would those be?

From your posts, defend Labour, slag off KJK, attempt to break record for TLDR

IwantToRetire · 11/04/2024 19:07

Watch out derailers about!

Which is why we need adults to challenge the nonsense about,'wrong bodies' and 'wrong puberty'. Males go through male puberty. That's not 'wrong' even if you don't like it.

Indeed. The lack of intelligence of those advocating for the transitioning and sterilisation of children are so worrying

Otter2 · 11/04/2024 19:11

Yes I have to admit that I had no idea people could be so fucking stupid - the whole genderist movement has been a massive eye opener on that front.

I thanked your post when I saw it.

You do seem obsessed with defending Labour and blaming/criticising the Tories.

I’m neither, but have noticed how remarkably badly labour behaved over this, and am amazed the women will even consider working with them again. I’d need a bloody good apology to give them an ounce of my attention.

literalviolence · 11/04/2024 19:22

Using 'culture wars' dogma to shut women down and try to invalidate their points is boring to be honest. What's a meaningful definition of culture war which separates it out from people refusing to roll over when people treat vulnerable people badly (e.g. arguing that males should be welcomed into ladies loos)? People speaking up against racism, homophobia, abelism or religious discrimination are not stoking culture wards and neither are people speaking up against others who are trying to erode women's rights.

KellieJaysLapdog · 11/04/2024 19:24

99% of Labour can cock off, along with 99% of the Tories, 99% of Greens and all of the Lib Dems.

I agree. Not sure why Victoria Atkins raised it.

She [VA] told Sky News: “Labour has spent the last ten years trying to shut women up when it comes to this. They have been part of the ideology, the culture wars, creating an atmosphere of intimidation for anyone who dared to question this ideology.

I wish she hadn't though because Cass said these attitudes are part of the problem.

I agree! There is just nobody to vote for (we only tend to have those 4 parties standing here).

Well obviously she's not using that term to shut women down, she's objecting to those who have tried to shut women down. Everything she says apart from 'the culture wars' is clearly true. Labour have behaved appallingly. Their leader is an out and out misogynist and they've treated Rosie Duffield disgustingly. They've tried to shut down any view which does not support male privilege. They have created a culture of intimidation and they've tried to make out that anyone standing up for women is creating 'culture wars'. It's time to drop that term entirely and start behaving like decent adults.

Hard agree! A plague on both your houses!

But not the House of Lords. They’ve done sterling work.

Individual women have held the line here, working in all their different ways, with the support of a few men like Glinner and Mr Menno.

I’m going to take this opportunity to thank every woman that patiently, furiously, calmly, or in the case of JKR graciously, put time, energy and money into this fight.

And to all those who’ve been battered and bruised by it.

It isn’t over. But it’s moving the right way.

Well done every last one of you.

Oh my goodness, denial of reality much! He bloody well is. You have to be to say that women can have penises, to pretend that 'both sides are as bad as each other', to support the erosion of women's rights and to treat one of your own MPs in such a disgusting way just because she dares to speak up for women. But you do you. Some people don't want to see what's in front of their noses.
