Labour infighting over trans issues reignited by Cass Review

But Rosie Duffield, a Labour MP placed under investigation by the party last year for campaigning against gender ideology, pointed out that women who had exposed the scandal had been “blanked, sidelined and dismissed” by male leaders simply for speaking up.

And feminist Julie Bindel demanded an apology from Mr Streeting for failing to support her gender-critical views when he was president of the National Union of Students.

In reply to Ms Bindel’s accusation, Mr Streeting replied: “From memory (16 years on, so correct me if I’m wrong!) I replied to confirm that you weren’t on NUS’ no platform policy and as this was in relation to a motion passed by the autonomous women’s campaign I was not empowered to overturn it (not least as a male president!).”

This prompted Ms Duffield to retweet the (Les Streeting) statement, with the message: “To the many women blanked, sidelined, dismissed by male leaders when speaking up and exposing this for years.”

And Ms Bindel wrote: “Glad to see you are now openly critical of the gender ideology that led to the atrocities against children outlined in the Cass report.

“I am open to accepting an apology from you. In 2008, when you were NUS president, I was no-platformed alongside five fascist groups for ‘transphobia’.

“I contacted you and asked for your help. You gave none. I asked you to condemn those that had orchestrated the no-platforming, and you refused.

“Have you any idea of the reputational damage this caused me? How it gave others permission to no-platform, denounce and defame me?
“How it meant that I could be slandered by other organisations, and so many, many universities around the UK and elsewhere? If this sounds bitter then good, because I am.”

To this message, Ms Duffield said: “Thank you for leading us all here Julie. Without you, most of us wouldn’t have had a clue what had been happening to children who were far too young to have the critical faculties or agency to consent.”

Why should everyone be enthral to KJK just because she is GC and outspokenly so?

Nobody needs to be in thrall to anyone, but I think, even if you disagree with KJK on some issues, she deserves some respect for her courage. Let Women Speak has been utterly revolutionary for some women and she has never been intimidated into stopping.

Grumblevision · 11/04/2024 09:36

KJK has been hugely important but she doesn't play well with others, which is counterproductive.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 11/04/2024 10:47

Kate Osborne is, somewhat predictably, saying that young trans people have been failed by the toxic language and debate surrounding this issue.

Toxic language such as "my new year's resolution is to block TERFs", perhaps?

KJK has been hugely important but she doesn't play well with others, which is counterproductive.

Rosie Duffield is not obligated to engage with anyone just because they agree on some issues.
Unless she told KJK to F off then I think its fair enough she "snubbed" her (whatever that actually means)

IwantToRetire · 11/04/2024 16:54

I also have no idea how RD snubbed KJK.

But also, we know left women have a different GC stance that more radical feminist women. Look at WPUK.

But I thought the best bit of the article was the Streeting waffle.

I think that in terms of the Labour Party it is really important that they aren't allowed to pretend they were never critical of GC veiws etc..

Its really important that in whatever sector or grouping people dont think they can just issue sound bite statements and everything is okay, and women will must meekly go back into their subserviant follower status.

ie they are already re-writing history and they shouldn't be allowed to.

If you want to understand just how batshit some of the grassroots Labour activists are, take a look at this thread.

www.reddit.com/r/LabourUK/s/1chYy7vZDD

That link is full of so much utter bullshit it's scary - it's all rubbish? Like, all of it? how is everyone so misinformed?

Kate Osborne.

Shouldn't that be Kate "couldn't find her own arse with both hands tied behind her back" Osbourne?

Imnobody4 · 11/04/2024 17:50

I’m sending love and solidarity to all trans people impacted by the news. Look after yourselves and each other, and reach out for support if you're struggling.

In the coming days, I'll be speaking to experts, relevant organisations, and trans people themselves to better understand the report and its implications.

Its findings must not be spun by those ideologically opposed to trans healthcare.

Included in the list of support organisations is - you've guessed it ‐ Mermaids

I don't know about the KJK snubbing, either. But, as my grandmother used to say, I'm sure she'll live.

However, I'm bloody glad that Julie Bindel is holding Streeting's feet to the fire.

She sounds fuming. I'm fucking fuming.

There's nothing in that Cass report that women haven't been yelling from the rooftops for years.

Stopping children's puberty, rendering them infertile, and ruining their future sex lives, isn't some fucking esoteric byproduct that no one knew about.

We all knew! The doctors knew. Streeting knew. There's nothing not to know.

Fucking cowardly weasels saw a bandwagon with votes written on it and jumped.

I hope she burns their feet off.

This has long been a TRA goal https://www.tumblr.com/edinburghath/163521055802/trans-health-manifesto

Trans health is bodily autonomy. We will express our needs, and they will be met. We will change our bodies however we want. We will have universally accessible and freely available hormones & blockers, surgical procedures, and any other relevant treatments and therapies. We will end the medical gatekeeping of our bodies. We will have full, historical accountability for the abuses perpetuated against us in the name of 'healthcare'. We will see reparations for these crimes, and the crimes committed against others in our names.

You'd think, wouldn't you, that this sort of unhinged drivel would've given our politicians a clue.

Because it's almost identical to the crap spouted by Action for Trans Health who the government actually asked for a written submission to their equality report (it's not the same group, is it Eresh?).

Politicians have to pick. Either they're as thick as shit, or they don't give a shit.

There's no third choice.

DumpsterBaby · 11/04/2024 17:57

Actually, KJK wouldn’t have a platform if it wasn’t for the many thousands of normal women who have supported her and none of THEM will get a mention. This conversation is so old.

I thought we were all doing this for the rights of women and children, not to court infamy?

Datun · 11/04/2024 17:58

Oh, I think it is the same group. I didn't actually click on the link.

Gave evidence to the government, for Maria Miller's 'equality' report.

Maria Miller, who said that women who objected, were 'purporting to be feminists'.

I agree with you. It was churlish of RD not to even give KJK a passing nod but I guess she is not part of the Left wing gang. She is bloody great though and brought this shit to very many people's attention.

I go from elation that Cass has confirmed what women have been saying on here for years to rage at the culpability of so many - especially politicians. The ability of the U I politicians, (useful idiots) to ignore this massive medical scandal in favour of pandering to an unhinged minority is quite frightening

It's the Scottish branch. By the style of the writing I suspect TRA poet Harry Josephine Giles had a hand in it.

The infamous Jess Bradley was the main player in the English branch and gave an oral submission to the government Trans Equality Inquiry back in 2015/16.

It was churlish, now the 'head girls' hope to get back into Labour's fold since the odds are they will clearly win the election and want to cozy up to those in power whilst Kellie-Jae and Julia Long will never return and critique away. I have so much respect for them!

That list of unrealistic/ unhinged demands isn’t too far off a young child stamping their foot and demanding that “I will have ice cream for breakfast and I will watch whatever I want and I will play in the snow in bare feet” on and on…

Haha. I was thinking the other day that the reason "no debate" failed so miserably was that they tried it on women who were mothers and knew exactly how to deal with temper tantrums. It's a shame we didn't send them all to bed early in 2014!

I agree. Their souls are up for sale and they don't care who knows it. I guess they think everyone's soul is a commodity.

I've just listened to David Bell.

And they so fucking aren't.

"There should probably be a moratorium on forcing children to go through the wrong puberty" according to the latest from Reddit Labour.

Which is why we need adults to challenge the nonsense about,'wrong bodies' and 'wrong puberty'. Males go through male puberty. That's not 'wrong' even if you don't like it.

FrancescaContini · 11/04/2024 18:42

“Wrong puberty” OMFG 🤦‍♀️

AdamRyan · 11/04/2024 18:42

For people who haven't seen it

https://x.com/ThePosieParker/status/1778029565098484151

Lots of women appear to be mainly pissed off that Rosie Duffield didn't name check KJK.

Because why celebrate an end to unnecessary medical procedures on children when you can engage in some feminist in-fighting?
