Labour infighting over trans issues reignited by Cass Review

But Rosie Duffield, a Labour MP placed under investigation by the party last year for campaigning against gender ideology, pointed out that women who had exposed the scandal had been “blanked, sidelined and dismissed” by male leaders simply for speaking up.

And feminist Julie Bindel demanded an apology from Mr Streeting for failing to support her gender-critical views when he was president of the National Union of Students.

In reply to Ms Bindel’s accusation, Mr Streeting replied: “From memory (16 years on, so correct me if I’m wrong!) I replied to confirm that you weren’t on NUS’ no platform policy and as this was in relation to a motion passed by the autonomous women’s campaign I was not empowered to overturn it (not least as a male president!).”

This prompted Ms Duffield to retweet the (Les Streeting) statement, with the message: “To the many women blanked, sidelined, dismissed by male leaders when speaking up and exposing this for years.”

And Ms Bindel wrote: “Glad to see you are now openly critical of the gender ideology that led to the atrocities against children outlined in the Cass report.

“I am open to accepting an apology from you. In 2008, when you were NUS president, I was no-platformed alongside five fascist groups for ‘transphobia’.

“I contacted you and asked for your help. You gave none. I asked you to condemn those that had orchestrated the no-platforming, and you refused.

“Have you any idea of the reputational damage this caused me? How it gave others permission to no-platform, denounce and defame me?
“How it meant that I could be slandered by other organisations, and so many, many universities around the UK and elsewhere? If this sounds bitter then good, because I am.”

To this message, Ms Duffield said: “Thank you for leading us all here Julie. Without you, most of us wouldn’t have had a clue what had been happening to children who were far too young to have the critical faculties or agency to consent.”

My local councillor nigh-on ran away from me when I started to talk about it. I think 'nobody' refers to Labour Party reps (because they're too scared!).

It wasn't just TwiX. It was across the MSM and has been referenced on here many, many, many (ad infinitum) times since.

Noone said "noone is talking about it" Confused That's a bit weird.

Not seen you on here for a bit, hope you are good.

I’m great thanks have been away. Not yet back but had avoided SM. Really happy to see the Cass review I think it will impact

I liked this last para in the NHS England response to Dr Cass

‘Can we once again thank you and your team for stepping up to lead such a complex review. Your final report will not just shape the future of healthcare in this country for children and young people experiencing gender distress but will be of major international importance and significance.’

My bold

AdamRyan · 12/04/2024 22:48

Yep. Its a great report. Shocking that it wasn't done before they started transitioning children.

Well done Keira Bell and "Mrs A" for raising awareness and making the government take it seriously. Total Sheroes

No. How is any of that "hating women"?

Please explain to me how saying anything about penises and cervixes is hate? They are body parts, not a crime scene. There is nothing inherently insulting about it.

My opinion is he is wrong, but it is not misogynistic.

He changes the definition of women such that women get no protection, no actual women only spaces. Words have an impact and disgusting comments like this are why women have been assaulted by men in their prison, raped by men in nhs women's wards and denied rape support. It is a man deciding that those things matter less than the feelings of men. If you genuinely cared about vulnerable women you could not say that. He's vile. He's misogynistic.

Denying that women are a sex class which does not include men? Trying to stop women talking about their bodies without referencing men? I consider this to be misogyny. Starmer is a misogynist or he would never contemplate coming out with such rot.

Lefty male misogyny has been a very prominent feature of the trans horror show - twats like JOB or LOJ relishing the chance to really squash some uppity women and feel virtuous whilst doing it. Starmer may not be quite so openly gleeful about it but he has still been there mouthing the platitudes to the TRAs and chucking women and girls under the bus.

Don't be ridiculous.
Labour are not in power. Any harm to women in the public estate is the Conservatives problem. They are in charge. Any negative impact on vulnerable women is down to them.

The post said '...disgusting comments like this are why women have been assaulted by men in their prison, raped by men in nhs women's wards and denied rape support. Don't you be ridiculous. This conversation is about whether he's a misogynist, not who is responsible for the shit being thrown at women right now. Although, as opposition leader he has sway and is choosing to use it to support male privilege so absolving him of all responsibility is a bit naive. I guess you're trying to move on from defending Kier againt misogyny allegations because, well, you can't.

Women have been assaulted by men in prison because the Conservatives chose to put males in females prisons.

Women have been raped by men on NHS wards because the Conservatives presided over mixed sex wards.

Women have not been "denied rape support" but they have been unable to access single sex rape support in some cases. That's a charity decision, not Labour. Meanwhile the Conservatives have presided over a collapse in prosecutions and a several year wait to see their rapist in court.

It's a moot point which party supports women more; but there is no reason to call starmer a misogynist. You are diluting the term and that harms women because it loses its power

See above. We've already answered that. You have to hate women to remove all protections for them as a sex class's and then hound your own female MPs for objecting. As has already been said.

Women have been denied rape support and its fucking shit to deny that reality. Really truly shitty behaviour. It makes.my blood boil when people don't check their privilege. Have you read about iamsarah? do that before spouting these lies.

Increasingly so.

The misreading / misinterpreting / misunderstanding / responding to something which isn't in the post being responded to. None of it aids debate or adds anything substantive to it.

Frustrating and probably a deliberate attempt to stifle debate.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Starmer came out and condemned these things that have been done to women rather than constantly banging on about how trans people are the most oppressed people in human history?

CranfordScones · 12/04/2024 23:38

We're not even close to the end of the first chapter.

Labour grassroots are held in a vise-like grip by those who robotically chant: Trans men are men. Trans women are women. Trans rights are human rights.

There's no critical thinking involved. That's the problem with Labour. And those activists aren't going to have a Damascene conversion just because someone's written a report.

Labour have not been in power for almost 15 years - any action to "remove all protections for them as a sex class" happened under the Tories.

It's very clear you want a conservative government, just own it instead of smearing the opposition.

Look at what's happened at the rape centre in Edinburgh which denied support to women and then didn't even signpost them to the actual single sex centre. Women are suffering. Denying that is horrible.
