Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

UltraLiteLife · 27/03/2024 22:56

Flying Bats FC won every game they played over the course of the four-week competition, winning the grand final 4-0 at Macquarie Park on Sunday to take home the $1000 jackpot.
There were huge winning margins in some games, with one trans player scoring six goals in a 10-0 victory.

Furious parents have withdrawn their daughters from games due to safety concerns, telling News Corp that players were unaware that they had signed up to compete against biological males

'Football NSW continues to align with Football Australia's adoption of the Australian Human Rights Commission's Guidelines for the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse people in sport', under which, community players are permitted to participate in Football on the basis of the gender with which they identify.'
The Australian Sports Commission's statement on trans and gender diverse inclusion reads: 'All Australians should have the opportunity to be involved in sport and physical activity, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, ability, cultural background or ethnicity.
'It is important that sporting bodies, from local clubs through to national sporting organisations, reflect the diversity in the communities they are a part of, and that together, we ensure every person is treated with respect and dignity and protected from discrimination.'

How much further can this go? This is gamesmanship at its worst and Football Australia is supporting it.

When is this fuckwittery going to stop? This is not the world that anyone was fighting for ten years ago, surely. I am starting to be that old fart who says "what the hell is going on". Seriously, this will come to an end in a bit, but what will become of all the champions of the delusion?

I was just reading about this on Twitter. There's leaked audio of a meeting with the North-West Sydney Football Association.

Leaked audio from the North-West Sydney Football Association.

The Flying Bats is a lesbian soccer club founded in the 1980s. They have since competed in the North-West Sydney female soccer competition.

The Flying Bats won the pre-season final last weekend 4-0. On their way to the final they won all their games including a 10-0 win. Five of the Flying Bats team are trans-women.

On 17 March six of the other clubs in the competition held an informal meeting at the Ranch Hotel in North Ryde. They wanted to discuss their concerns around how implausible it has become for any team to win against the Flying Bats as well as physical safety concerns.

Options discussed included the teams entering an alternate competition or for other teams to simply boycott games scheduled against the Flying Bats.

Word of that informal meeting got around and so on 20 March the North-West Sydney Football Association convened a formal meeting. The CEO of Football NSW John Tsatsimas was in attendance.

That meeting went for around an hour and a half.

This is the first of three audio highlights.

Question from the audience:

‘What are you going to do if we forfeit games?’

Answer: ‘Well if you forfeit two games in the season there would be disciplinary action handed out. If there was a concerted efforts by teams to forfeit games against a particular opposition that would be viewed as an act of discrimination.’

2/3.

In this audio, one of the club presidents says:

'A couple of years ago one of the Flying Bats players broke one of our players legs in two places. She’s no longer playing football. As a small club I’ve lost 24 players and that’s a direct result of not wanting to play against the Flying Bats.'

3/3.

In this audio an official says:

'The policy in our association is that you’re entitled to play in the gender to which you identify. The board is currently working on a diversity and inclusion policy and that’s what it says because we have to say it – it’s what we’re required to say and its what we want to say.’

Would be keen to understand why 'we have to say it.' Where's that coming from??

Australian football authority official policy, I think. There's at least one other male playing in women's football and causing injuries.

Sex and GI being conflated in law. The Tickle v Giggle case is challenging this conflation in Australia's federal court. There's an eponymous thread on this board. Carrots need to be planted for the court case.

That thread is unbelievable. I wonder what the penalties look like. As surely many teams would have to forfeit due to being unable to field a team for those matches? I don’t know the age range but I wouldn’t want my daughter playing and if she was 16 or under I’d just say no, she won’t be playing that game.

I think the Australian football body (soccer) has a significant issue at the moment. I wonder how long it will be before it is forced to come to a head.

If one team has lost 24 players due to another team having 5 male players, I wonder how many more stories such as this will come through and force action. If more and more female players are injured, surely there can be court cases. Because the body is allowing this knowing the evidence is there and has been consistent now over years.

If the changes Gillard made to the Anti discrimination act is being used as an excuse, then something needs to be done to create clauses to allow legitimate discrimination. Or if organisations are hiding behind the Act, and exceptions are applicable, then that needs to be sorted. Because I am seeing the act mentioned more and more now.

And surely, with the IOC’s position and the potential of the act, the Brisbane games are going to be a difficult one for female athletes if this is not sorted now.

If teams aren't allowed to forfeit games due to discrimination, the only way around that is to have a few lads "girls" signed up to specifically play against that team. Personally I'd put out a full team of "girls" every time I played them.

It's mainstream media silence on this whole issue - or if any incidents are reported, the male athletes are described as women. That's what needs to change, same as here in England.

The silence is despicable. Sports reporters who cover women’s sports (presumably most these days?) should be pilloried for ignoring this.

There are quite a few Magdalen take downs of Dennis. Here is just one

The Reduxx article includes something rather interesting about the Gender Diversity Policy that supposedly means TW absolutely have to be allowed to play on the women’s team & there’s simply nothing to be done (not that they’re nasty bigots who’d want to do anything of course):

The Football New South Wales Gender Diversity Policy prohibits “discrimination against a person on the basis of their sex or gender identity,” and defines gender identity as: “The gender related identity, appearance or mannerisms or other gender-related characteristics of a person (whether by way of medical intervention or not), with or without regard to the person’s designated sex at birth.”

“Discrimination or harassment of players engaging in Football is not tolerated at any level of the Game. Australian Federal and State legislation prohibits discrimination against a person on the basis of their Sex or Gender Identity, including in sport,” reads the policy. “However, an exemption arises under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 to permit discrimination in sport on the basis of sex, gender identity or intersex status where the relative difference in strength, stamina or physique of a player is significant in the sense that it has a considerable effect on their ability to compete.”

So it seems that Football NSW can absolutely revert to being women only & thus a safe & fair environment for female players. TW should be welcomed into male teams & addressing homophobia & transphobia should be the focus. Women do not exist to “validate” men who consider that their notions about their identity make them women. If a woman played in the men’s league, she’d still be a woman & nobody would question it. If TWAW, playing in the correct league for their sex should be NBD 🤷‍♀️
