Agree with all of the previous posts about Labour.

Froodwithatowel · 15/03/2024 15:18

Clip of Sally Anne Hart saying in parliament that Labour were desperately trying to avoid the debate because frightened and didn't care about protecting children, and Truss has put up a message on X pointing out that Labour intentionally blocked this.

Revolting people. And that's 'socialism'. Or identified as, anyway.

FoulWrinkledWitch · 15/03/2024 16:07

Hell will freeze over before I vote Labour again.

Leafstamp · 15/03/2024 16:42

Labour are idiots. This is just more evidence that they don't care about women and child safeguarding. It will serve Labour right when (not if) the Tories exploit this.

Froodwithatowel · 15/03/2024 16:58

When raising this issue makes Labour look like a bunch of gutless muppets wanting a fridge to hide in, do they really think the Tories won't now do this repeatedly?

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/03/2024 19:42

I’ve had an email response from my GC conservative MP:

Thank you for your email - just to let you know that, further to your email, I have remained in London today in order to be present for the Private Members Bills.

What on earth are they playing at.

Just now Labour MPs prevented debate on a new law to protect children and single sex spaces.
Instead they used parliamentary time to discuss ferret name choices.
@Keir_Starmer is terrified of debate on safeguarding & his MPs actively work to ignore the concerns of constituents.

What does that mean ferret name choices? As in a ferret, furry animal?

I'm sure that LT was asked to give another date. Couldn't catch it though.

Be next week. But as it states here, she won’t be anywhere near being able to speak. It’s gone. Labour did their job, ensured that women’s and children’s rights were not discussed. Imagine what they will be like in charge of this country.

Labour are awful

What a shame they’d rather avoid a debate than provide clarity

duc748 · 15/03/2024 20:21

Politicians do politics. And it's seldom good politics to agreed too much with your opponents. Labour are doing this, and so is Badenoch. The government KB is a minister in, could introduce this legislation themselves if they wanted to, they've been in power long enough, and they haven't.

None of which is to say that I don't share the OP's bleak view of the future under Labour; they show no sign of freeing themselves from the pull of the genderist movement.

Barbadossunset · 15/03/2024 20:26

I wondered that.

illinivich · 15/03/2024 20:32

I really thought starmer would be in favour of tying up as much gender stuff as possible before the election. No-one is going to vote labour solely on modernisating the GRC, and everything else has problem attached to it - the treatment of children, women only spaces, the number and type of crimes committed by men and recorded as by women.

I thought every politician would do their best to stop it being an issue in the next election, and voting on policy like this would help that.

Well quite. The question is why aren’t Labour doing that?

It must be due to their donors (or similar). It’s inexplicable otherwise.

Yes, it was quite literally MPs name checking their pet ferrets and other pet animal names. Mind boggling bad.

The first bill was about the import of animals, including ferrets and some discussion about pet ferrets and their names ensued.

SoupDragonsFriend · 15/03/2024 21:37

Search ‘ferret’ on the transcript of today's Hansard and you’ll see a load of politicians delaying things deliberately. They should be ashamed of themselves. I feel ashamed that this is how our political system works, especially about the impact of these MPs actions in delaying a bill that was about safeguarding children, and am appalled at the waste of money in terms of time and overheads.

I see Ashley Dalton name has cropped up again - she gave a very long speech according to the independent article linked above.

Runningwildish · 16/03/2024 00:21

And we were hoping that Labour would do a reverse ferret and support women's rights and safeguarding of children.

duc748 · 16/03/2024 00:24

The way things work, I'm not sure Labour were ever in the position to do that, even if they wanted to, which I agree, they didn't.

I don't think I've ever seen LWD be so openly critical of their own party.

They are deeply in hock to a political movement that perceives protection of children as not only deeply inconvenient but an attack upon them and their preferred outcomes.

There are many reasons I have given up on Labour, but this is one of the big ones.

Labour have made themselves look like a pathetic bunch of childish dicks here. I'd be interested in who is on Laura Kuenssberg tomorrow, representing Labour and what they have to say about it. There should be sanctions for this type of behaviour as it was very obviously deliberate. I'd also like to know why the Deputy Speaker didn't tell them all to STFU basically.

duc748 · 16/03/2024 18:02

Matters aren't helped by lobby hacks being OK with this kind of procedural flummery in Parliament, part of the rich tapestry of our glorious traditions, etc.

No, it's not big, not clever, and should have no place in the 21st century.
