AIBU to not want to be referred to as "people with uteruses"?

Quote from the Guardian's Dining Across the Divide:

"... If women – or people with uteruses – are the only ones who can produce children, you have to cut them some slack. They are doing a great service to society by producing the next generation."

Well done us "people with uteruses" for producing children... if only the REAL women could do this... (the ones with dicks). URGH.

People with uteruses, birthing people. Only good for popping out the next generation. All very Gilead.

CactusMactus · 07/03/2024 14:54

I just don't understand - why when certain people are allowed to demand to be called certain terms, as a society we oblige.
But when women want to be called women, mother, grandmother, etc we are "birthing people with uteruses"

Wow who are these people with uteruses? Are they the ones with testicles and prostates or are they different ones?

Xiaoxiong · 07/03/2024 15:01

Wow. So dehumanising. So much for not reducing people to their genitals, eh!

My smear test letter referred to ‘people with a cervix’ - if only there was a word for them 🤔

Snippit · 07/03/2024 15:07

My 28 year old daughter no longer has a uterus due to endometriosis and being born with just half a womb that was totally fucked. What does she now identify as? Absolute utter shite. I’m so sick of all this sodding wokery, we are women, end of. Men don’t seem to have this issue with identity crisis, what should we call them, hmm 🤔knobs?

Cosmosforbreakfast · 07/03/2024 15:08

So busy trying to not offend a minority of male fantasists and their oh so fragile egos, that offending women by obliterating their identities becomes the norm instead.

well, if it's a they/them or someone asking you to use incorrect sex pronouns, you could say "you call me woman and i'll use the pronouns you want me to use"?

if it's in general - i agree. But i am sure we're not going to win this one any time soon and my personal (i know that many people vehemently disagree with me on this) view is that i will accept women/mothers and other blah-blah-blah people. (eg. Mothers and other people who have given birth)

The person quoted from The Guardian identified as a non-binary (ex uterus person). 'They' no longer want to identify as a woman (crack on love.. your business) - but what riled me, why can't I? Why am I 'uterus person' and not a WOMAN!

This has to be the first time in history the most marginalised group in existence has had more power than any other group out there.

If anyone doubts this is being pushed by men, the proof is right here. In the forced change of language. The erasure of women. The silencing. The rage. The threats. The demands.

Revelatio · 07/03/2024 15:13

I don’t think this is to do with male fantasists. It literally says women. They are referring to people who were born women, but now don’t identify with being a woman. The person using the language has used the word women so they’re not erasing anything.

But there aren't any other people who give birth. Only mothers.

People with uteruses, people with a vagina, people with a cervix.....one word that's been used for centuries.....WOMAN. Job done

So fuck off NHS

i know that, and if you read what i said instead of simply quoting it i did say that I am ok with it and i know that many many people really really don't agree with it.

I am not speaking for anyone but myself.

But in my view, we are not going to be able to row this back quickly, and so in the interim i would be (grudgingly) ok with what i suggested. I have at zero point ever said that a) everyone should be happy with it or b) that it's my way or the highway

So perhaps the person should have said "women... or men with uteruses".

Got it.

I always wonder how these numpties want to describe sex-specific medical needs. So, heart attack symptoms in people with uteruses are different from the default testicle symptoms? Or medication dosages need to be adjusted for vaginas?

Revelatio · 07/03/2024 15:23

CactusMactus · 07/03/2024 15:19

But I thought you said the person speaking identifies with being non-binary, so they wouldn’t identify as a man? They’re talking about women, but the person doesn’t identify as a woman, but has a uterus, so aren’t they just describing themselves?

I don’t like the erosion of the word woman, but I don’t think it’s the case here as the person speaking literally referred to ‘women’.

CactusMactus · 07/03/2024 15:23

bodies with vaginas
people with uteruses
people with a cervix
birthing people

Is this what I want my daughters to aspire to? 😭

I've seen 'scrotum gantry', but only in weary sarcasm never in so called reputable places, never expecting to be acceptable and taken seriously.

DadJoke · 07/03/2024 15:42

If only they'd specifically called out women in that quote.
