AIBU to not want to be referred to as "people with uteruses"?

Quote from the Guardian's Dining Across the Divide:

"... If women – or people with uteruses – are the only ones who can produce children, you have to cut them some slack. They are doing a great service to society by producing the next generation."

Well done us "people with uteruses" for producing children... if only the REAL women could do this... (the ones with dicks). URGH.

I do think it’s still a bit pandering to an extremely small minority, but there’s a world of difference between these two phrases;

Women - or people with uteruses- bear children

Women (and people with uteruses) bear children

Two completely different things.

I've seen 'scrotum gantry', but only in weary sarcasm never in so called reputable places, never expecting to be acceptable and taken seriously.

<twirls>

Milli Hill's substack has pages and pages of examples of terms used where "woman" has been erased. It doesn't just mangle the language, it mangles the meaning.

If only they'd specifically called out women in that quote.

Not you again. Do you spend all day trawling the FWR boards, looking for threads to add your irrelevant comments to?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 15:56

If only there was a word for such a person.

IcakethereforeIam · 07/03/2024 15:56

Ah, jizzjoke 😊

turbonerd · 07/03/2024 16:01

So words are not that important really, they are just words EXCEPT when they are totally important and can inflict literal violence.

Jeez, some people ARE a Tough Crowd.

(will get around to reading it eventually).

It made me smile when one proclaimed it was their first ever time talking to a non-binary person!!
No, love. It really wasn’t, dear.

Helleofabore · 07/03/2024 16:06

I love being told by men that I must accept terms that dehumanise women.

I think that one could catch on, it’s particularly good with a West Country accent
’Alright me jizzer’ 😂

@IcakethereforeIam you're cruisin again GrinWine

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/03/2024 16:11

Everyone in the world now, and who has ever walked on the earth is "non binary". So it's not really very special or different.

That reminds me, I must pop to the shops to buy a Happy People With Uteruses Day card in time for Sunday…

NimbleScroller · 07/03/2024 19:50

What next? The removal of Maternity rights?

I was surprised the 57 year old they/them hadn’t found feminism by now, or realised that gender ideology reinforces the boxes she claims not to like.

Xiaoxiong · 07/03/2024 15:01

Wow. So dehumanising. So much for not reducing people to their genitals, eh!

I am at this point very confused, we are never to know what genitals someone has, but we are also expected to know who has a uterus.

WickedSerious · 07/03/2024 20:46

That's quite enough arse juice for today thank you.

that's a good point - i wonder how long it will be before there are (not even joking) cards for trans mothers and all the rest?

ScrotumGantry · 08/03/2024 18:09

I suppose 'people' isn't as bad as 'bodies' but still FFS.

So, my aunt, who has had a hysterectomy is...what by that definition?

XX chromosome haver is where it will logically end up

That's happening already, females giving birth now are more likely to die in childbirth than ten years ago

Exactly this. Mustn’t reduce anyone to their genitals - and banging on about genital inspections at all public toilets.
Whilst at the same time we should all know who People With Uteri (Uteruses)/Cervixes (which is everyone. The cervical part of the spine is pretty universal in mammals) are.

The uterus is surely more difficult to spot than the genitals, I’d imagine. Shudder at the thought of uterus-inspections to use the right loo.
