Please, excuse me asking a dumb question. I struggle with these issues and only know one transsexual person (female to male) and I am happy for him(?).
If the objection that in permitting men to be declared women, that it is allowing wolves to don sheeps' clothing?
Is there much thought on female to male, or serious concerns?
I am a man, so I might be missing things that should be very obvious. Thank you.

Yes

Is there much thought on female to male, or serious concerns?
No because the female transitioners pose no threat to men's safety, sports records etc.
plus the female transitioners are ironically behaving exactly like women do, and just get on with it, without making a fuss.

Stuck to your common sense. As once you see what's going on it feels like going through the looking glass, like Alice in wonderland

Froodwithatowel · 01/03/2024 20:26

Exactly. It isn't a gender issue. It's a sex issue.

Sweden99 · 01/03/2024 20:27

Thank you for the replies. I was asking in good faith and it was kind of you to take it that way too.

@Sweden99 I am concerned, though, about women's (or, mostly, girls') motivation for transitioning. It seems that many girls transition not because they feel they are male, but to avoid abuse or unwanted attention from men. I am also massively concerned about the increasing acceptance of so-called "top-surgery", i.e. double mastectomy, which seems to be far more common than surgery for male transgender people.

My comments aren't really about what people call themselves, nor whether men should be accepted as women and welcomed into women's spaces, or vice versa for women in men's spaces, just to say that I do have massive issues with gender ideology for young women who say they are men.

Sweden99 · 01/03/2024 20:53

Thank you, this is eye opening.

Something I see in the girls I know who identify as boys is that there has often been group bullying or exclusion by other girls. I don't know if this is more likely in girls who are autistic.

If anyone here is a member of the Women's Rights Network, there is an excellent guide on the Members Only Forum that takes you through the BBC Complaints process with the steps to go through in order to escalate the complaint to Ofcom if (when!) the response is unsatisfactory:

How to .... Complain to/about the BBC & get action FAST

Hi there... new to the MN feminism section but not new to the debate/fight for our rights.

I stepped out of it all for a bit because I realised my letter writing, funding numerous court cases etc wasn’t making a dent.

I’ve been waiting for the moment that galvanises the movement towards a different tack (need to be careful with words here).

Are we there yet? Is the BBC/Scarlet Blake the tipping point?

"Are we there yet?". Not even close. The capture of, let's see, the media (i.e. 95 % of it) academe, the arts, the police, medical profession-well, basically everyone and everything is massive. These nutters have been beavering away for at least a decade with success beyond their wildest dreams. Until now.

Response from BBC Complaints to my complaint about the ECU finding against Justin Webb:

"... this represents the final view of the BBC on this matter, and we therefore have nothing further to add."

I think the underlying issues (eg is a factual statement unacceptable) and the guidance in the BBC News style guide need debate and feedback from the BBC but I'm not sure that this specific complaint (the ECU finding) is the best way, as they'll just take the line 'this matter is closed' and not enter into further discussion.

I did actually ask some questions in my complaint, which they haven't answered, so I could escalate my original complaint further. Or re-angle it and submit a fresh one without the emphasis on the ECU finding. Any advice?

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv-radio-and-on-demand/advice-for-consumers/how-ofcom-deals-with-bbc-complaints

'The full BBC complaints process consists of three stages -Stage 1a, 1b and 2. If you are unhappy with the response from the BBC at each of stage 1a and 1b, you can ask the BBC to look at it again. Stage 2 is the final stage, where you can complain to the BBC Executive Complaints Unit, the ECU. You should wait to see if you are happy with the BBC ECU’s final response before making a complaint to Ofcom.'

How Ofcom deals with BBC TV, radio and on demand complaints

Other than in exceptional circumstances, Ofcom can only consider your complaint if you’ve already complained to the BBC first.

I'm no expert but I'd suggest keeping pushing the BBC until you can escalate to Ofcom seems the most effective route.

@yetanotherusernameAgain I've just had the same response ("this is our final view on the matter"). I've just re-submitted my complaint saying this was unacceptable because the very fact of censuring Justin Webb for stating "transwomen, who are males" was a partisan political position.

I just don't know how else to say it. If he made a factual error ("transwomen are in fact females") then they should require a correction to be issued. If they thought he should have said something else apart from a factual statement, that is then a requirement to take a partisan political position. They stated he should have made some "qualification as to biological sex and gender" but they didn't specify what, and there is no qualification I can think of that isn't a partisan political statement!

Should he have said:
transwomen, who are males who believe they are women? (likely unacceptable to the original complainant)
transwomen, who are males who have changed sex? (factually incorrect)
transwomen, who are males who live as women? (sexist stereotyping)
transwomen, who are males who do not believe their gender identity matches their sex? (basically what he said originally and what he was censured for)

Me too. Baroness Nicholson has also written to Dame Melanie Dawes at Ofcom.

I got the same response. Not impressed either.

I think it will be interesting to see the weekly BBC complaints list for the relevant period (when it’s published) to see how many complaints they received.
