JK Rowling has sadly opened her mouth again

How the metro can put out this tweet which effectively suggests a woman shouldn't be allowed to speak is beyond me. Shocked but not surprised. Comments are heartening though, as is the ratio.

JKR has completely taken the gloves off now.

JKR if you are here,I am totally with you after the last fortnight of bullshit with the media being unable to report facts and the weasely seal lioning on here.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/03/2024 19:03

Grin

And guess what India will do?

Totally prove JKR's point with replies.

Once you start to see it....

I imagine J K Rowling to have an anagram for a username like me 😉

I am not her btw.

Froodwithatowel · 04/03/2024 20:02

She has the class and the intelligence to lurk if she is here. That woman excels at keeping her powder dry and using it at the right moment.

Boiledbeetle · 04/03/2024 20:05

The thing is if she is on here, she has to be one of us.

Come on its not me, which one of the other five is it????

ArabellaScott · 04/03/2024 20:05

Over the years, even as Willoughby has attacked women viciously left, right and centre most feminists I've seen have extended sympathy towards someone who is clearly fragile and damaged.

However, it comes to a point where even if one feels sorry for a person, they have to be told to stop dishing out abuse, slurs, homophobia, misogyny, and racism.

I see calls on Twitter for India to 'sue' JKR or report her to the police.

Much as part of me would find this greatly entertaining, I think if IW has any sense left at all it would be better to take some time off social media instead.

Let that penetrate.

All the women running around after them, trying to placate them. Women they shove aside constantly to insure themselves feelings aren't hurt.

I don't know, of course, but I feel as though she lurks here. She's a busy, productive woman and I feel like she concentrates her forces where they are most needed. We mostly don't need telling on here, and those who do get told; she focuses her energy where it's most needed, and knows it'll make its way here anyway.

Deputy Leader of the Green Party.

It's weird that the Green Party is so supportive of adding tons of useless hot air to the environment. Perhaps they see an environmental benefit to all the bullshit.

I get the feeling JKR is ready for a court case tbh.

I feel it's coming at some point.

Either way, making a lot of noise about this subject prior to the election isn't a bad thing either.

‘adding tons of useless hot air to the environment’

That’s all they have ever done.

I should add with the idea of someone suing JKR there'd be mad to if their name is India and they have this history of abusing women on twitter.

JKR potentially has the 'in the public interest' defence in terms of highlighting a massive issue. Harassment and abuse of biological women on social media are a crucial part of it.

True.

However, it isn't implying she should stop talking.

Good God, when you say someone has sadly opened their mouth again, of course you're saying they should stop talking. You know it, I know it, you and another poster complained about silencing when I merely called a post "pompous", ffs. Do you actually think you're fooling anyone? Even Rita Skeeter wouldn't try to pretend that "she sadly opened her mouth" isn't a clear implication that a woman should stop talking. Do us a lemon!

Let's suppose for the sake of argument you're right that "JK Rowling has sadly opened her mouth again" = "JK Rowling should stop talking". It's irrelevant, because that's not what the OP said and not what the argument was about. The OP claimed that the tweet effectively said JKR "shouldn't be allowed to speak".

Saying someone shouldn't be allowed to speak is completely different from saying they "should stop talking". The first means that an external agency should stop them from speaking (refuse to publish them, threaten them with prosecution, whatever) even if they're personally determined to. The second just means you're telling them that your personal feeling is they should stop (and they can listen to you or tell you to bugger off and carry on talking regardless).

The first implies a restriction on freedom of speech (which it seemed the OP was trying to get at). But it isn't actually there. You're now watering it down, presumably because you know perfectly well that it isn't actually there.

It's massively weird how on here I've strongly been making the point about 'polite pronouns' being coercive and manipulative,

And suddenly one of the points on twitter in response to that from a TRA was the following:

Politeness is just respectability politics and a shield for bigots to hide behind.

Odd huh?

It's what the person I was talking to said. Your inability to follow a conversation doesn't render it irrelevant.

And to follow a complaint of irrelevance with that wall of prattle? You guys are funny, I'll give you that.

I think it can be interpreted in multiple ways.

Threads can deviate from the intended meaning of the OP. The OP can mean in multiple ways too.

I certainly will talk about a subject based on my own interpretation of the original headline as will others.

Arguing about the intent and meaning of the original poster and stating that all other interpretations are somehow invalid is GrammarNazi keyboard warrioring to derail a thread even further from the subject (rather than to get It back on track) so we won't talk about how wonderful JKR is for not taking this shit lying down and actually speaking up against these sexist arseholes who want women to go back in their box rather than challenge and get involved in politics when it's completely appropriate and in their own interests to do so.

Exactly. Sneering at 'Politeness' - and yet 'respect' and the politeness of submitting to pronouns is constantly demanded.

Lundy Bancroft's males with widely different senses of what they are entitled to, what doesn't apply to them but does apply to others when convenient to them, and what the minions must do and settle for.

Surely Katie is aware this is India's standard MO?

India spends a good deal of time telling women they're not as good as India.

ArabellaScott · 04/03/2024 22:27

Here is India retweeting another man calling JKR a 'cunt'.

Just a bunch of incels flinging misogynist slurs.

I am happy to accept that I am nowhere near as good as India at being a misogynist racist.
