How the metro can put out this tweet which effectively suggests a woman shouldn't be allowed to speak is beyond me. Shocked but not surprised. Comments are heartening though, as is the ratio.

that's because 100% of the people that want to tell JK off are on MN telling us off

IncompleteSenten · 04/03/2024 15:56

Note how the comments they include in their article are only those criticising her?

Still showing their agenda clearly.

Well, the comments on the Metro's actual article seem to be virtually 100% in support of JK.

I can't see any, just adverts and requests for celebrity scandal.

Cats are small nuclear filled pens.

That's an opinion too. It's absolute batshit, but it's an opinion.

Thanks, I tried several times, but it just goes to the bottom of the pages.

Helleofabore · 04/03/2024 17:47

What I find remarkable though is that some posters are not just here to give their 'opinion', they then resort to making sure that opinion has a rebuke in its tail that attempts to shame others for having a different opinion.

Imagine just coming onto a thread and saying, 'well, I think x or I interpret it this way because'.

No. Instead it is 'I think x, and everthing else is 'hyperbole' and this board is [insert negative generalisation]. Of course, making a negative generalisation about the board is a rebuke, it has been done to scold women who disagree. But it is being presented as 'I have just given my opinion and that should be fine' which is dishonest.

Froodwithatowel · 04/03/2024 17:50

'That should be fine' meaning, no one should argue back with me or disagree.

Feelings based reality, alternative facts. Take it away Tim Minchin.....

Cos otherwise my brain will blow up".

I can read them - I think The Metro just gave up purging the comments in support of JKR.

There’s only so long that you can keep deleting every comment.

"That is my opinion, is that OK with you" is absolutely meaningless. As before, you can stick it on to absolutely anything. It's just a means of bypassing the actual discussion for a straight up (and rather whiny) implication that the rebuttal of an opinion somehow equates to a denial of a right to hold that opinion. There is a reason there was nothing else to that post.

And to suggest that rebutting an opinion equates to an attempt to silence it? While simultaneously claiming that "sadly she has opened her mouth again" doesn't constitute a silencing attempt? Literally saying that it's sad when she speaks isn't a suggestion that she ought not to speak?

I know I keep saying it, but...who do they think they're fooling? Seriously...who?

To derail the thread yet further - I just Googled whether Tim Minchin is GC or not and apparently he liked a tweet on Twitter that caused oUtRaGe in the TRA community... so that means potentially yes (although he backtracked and said he doesn't remember doing it 🙄). But I can sleep warm and fuzzy tonight knowing that he might be 😂

I agree that it lacks coherency or consistency. There seems to be some fuckwittery at play. Because it seems that to point out the chilling effect that it has on other women who may have wanted to voice a similar opinion is 'hyperbole'.

Are you using Chrome? Try another browser (the comments appear on Firefox and Brave for me) plus you can adblock those ugly ads that plague the local newspapers.

From today’s Twitter/X, I think JKR has finally had enough of males demanding that everyone deny reality and call them female.

It’s quite something to behold.

A bit of a dichotomy here! 😂🙈 boo hoo TW (coincidence I think not!!

I cannot parse or interpret it any other way than, "Christ, why doesn't she keep her gob shut?"

I've tried, but it doesn't work.

This every day of the week and twice on Sundays, it is exactly what the 'writer' meant.

I am in awe of her. Possibly the only woman in the world who could do this and not find their career at an end as a result. Thank you so much. Flowers
