Congratulations to the UK's first trans and non binary domestic violence refuge. I hope you get all the support both political and financial possible. This TERF is incredibly supportive that the trans and non binary community has built a space of their own to support their own community. If it has a fundraiser I hope JKR donates with her usual generosity. I welcome this development and give my best wishes for long term success and hope you serve your community with pride and unanimous appreciation for all the hard work. This is important work and everyone contributing deserves praise and recognition.

If a fundraiser goes up I will donate double what I donated to gender critical fundraisers and post receipts ( with identifying information redacted ).

Cynically I can see a massive problem. Some TW may well still demand to use single sex services as that’s the only way they can be validated.

Goes without saying that I wish domestic violence shelters did not have to exist, but excellent that this does for those who will need it. Hope that all those who rely on this get the support they need, and will happily donate when I am in a position financially to do so.

Until we are at a point in society where these types of things aren't needed I hope it's the start of many more that cater to trans and non binary victims of abuse. These services work better when they are specialised rather than one size fits all.

The Emily Davison Centre’s joint founder, Amanda Elwen, said the focus on by-and-for support for trans people was so that experts are “better able to understand the context and complexity of abuse faced by minoritised survivors”

A report from the Domestic Abuse Commissioner found that 68 per cent of LGBT+ survivors prefer a by-and-for specialist service, while 91 per cent of trans people agreed

Sounds a really positive move and is in line with long established feminist principles that the best place or source of advice is from members of your own community.

I've checked their web site and it seems it is only accepts referrals from England. Hopefully Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will recognise this need and enable similar services.

Though I don't understand why you'd donate double to this cause than to GC crowdfunds, or why you'd think JKR should put her hand in her pocket? There are some very wealthy TQ+ focussed charities who could financially support this cause, while GC women have to scrape up every £5 when our legal rights are taken away. And JKR isn't everyone's rich aunty. Obviously give whatever support you choose to whatever cause you choose.
