Congratulations to the UK's first trans and non binary domestic violence refuge. I hope you get all the support both political and financial possible. This TERF is incredibly supportive that the trans and non binary community has built a space of their own to support their own community. If it has a fundraiser I hope JKR donates with her usual generosity. I welcome this development and give my best wishes for long term success and hope you serve your community with pride and unanimous appreciation for all the hard work. This is important work and everyone contributing deserves praise and recognition.

Great. Genuinely really pleased this has happened. Off to see how to donate as I’ve always said I would.

Eminybob · 23/02/2024 19:59

I completely agree.
Such a shame this sort of support can't be reciprocated for biological women.

lechiffre55 · 23/02/2024 20:00

If a fundraiser goes up I will donate double what I donated to gender critical fundraisers and post receipts ( with identifying information redacted ).

Great. Hope is a big success and is able to reach the people who need it.

Cynically I can see a massive problem. Some TW may well still demand to use single sex services as that’s the only way they can be validated.

hollyandivyknickers · 23/02/2024 20:05

Great news - anything that helps people who are suffering is good news

ahjeez · 23/02/2024 20:06

Goes without saying that I wish domestic violence shelters did not have to exist, but excellent that this does for those who will need it. Hope that all those who rely on this get the support they need, and will happily donate when I am in a position financially to do so.

LarkLane · 23/02/2024 20:11

Good to see this come into being and I hope that the trans movement gives it full support.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/02/2024 20:12

Such a great step to have specialised support. Go them!

PuttingDownRoots · 23/02/2024 20:13

Sad that its needed, but pleased there is specialist support available for them.

PonyPatter44 · 23/02/2024 20:16

It's exactly what is needed. Great news and hopefully it helps desperate and struggling people.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 23/02/2024 20:17

I agree with everyone else, great news and well done to all those involved

Boiledbeetle · 23/02/2024 20:22

Ditto everyone else's comments!

Until we are at a point in society where these types of things aren't needed I hope it's the start of many more that cater to trans and non binary victims of abuse. These services work better when they are specialised rather than one size fits all.

Chickenrunning · 23/02/2024 20:27

Agree. Wonderful news (sad that it is needed).

KohlaParasaurus · 23/02/2024 20:28

This is really good news and I wish them well.

HermioneWeasley · 23/02/2024 20:41

Fantastic news

Froodwithatowel · 23/02/2024 20:45

Great. I wish it every success. There should be more specialised refuges available.

Leaving alone female only ones would be nice please.

teawamutu · 23/02/2024 20:58

Good for them - like PP, I look forward to supporting their work.

Boiledbeetle · 23/02/2024 21:11

There's some interesting info on the Pink News article.

The Emily Davison Centre’s joint founder, Amanda Elwen, said the focus on by-and-for support for trans people was so that experts are “better able to understand the context and complexity of abuse faced by minoritised survivors”

A report from the Domestic Abuse Commissioner found that 68 per cent of LGBT+ survivors prefer a by-and-for specialist service, while 91 per cent of trans people agreed

IwantToRetire · 23/02/2024 21:20

Sounds a really positive move and is in line with long established feminist principles that the best place or source of advice is from members of your own community.

I've checked their web site and it seems it is only accepts referrals from England. Hopefully Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will recognise this need and enable similar services.

This sounds like this is fantastic news.

nothingcomestonothing · 23/02/2024 21:26

I wish them every success, and all of their clients healing.

Though I don't understand why you'd donate double to this cause than to GC crowdfunds, or why you'd think JKR should put her hand in her pocket? There are some very wealthy TQ+ focussed charities who could financially support this cause, while GC women have to scrape up every £5 when our legal rights are taken away. And JKR isn't everyone's rich aunty. Obviously give whatever support you choose to whatever cause you choose.

PermanentTemporary · 23/02/2024 21:28

Great news.

There's no sign of a fundraiser, so perhaps it is fully funded already.

PeridotSparkle · 23/02/2024 21:31

It's the logical conclusion. Why the hell are people moaning about it on Twitter? Complete twats! Where's else are TW / NB supposed to go?

CorvusPurpureus · 23/02/2024 21:32

Good to hear. Wishing them well.
