Jen Swayne Wales sticker woman sueing Gwent Police

Jen Swayne who was arrested for putting up stickers in Newport two years ago has launched a challenge to Gwent Police for their mishandling of the situation. She has a Crowdfunder up with Democracy 3 and it would be good if people could donate and share as widely as possible. There was great support from Mumsnet posters at the time and I've attached that thread and the subsequent one three months later when they dropped the investigation. (The punishment being the process of course). She's conscious that this is yet another crowdfunder but is determined that other women don't meet with the same alarming situation that she had to deal with.

Bumping while I read that thread.

dildeewana · 20/02/2024 17:34

Bloody rightly so! The way Jen was treated was ridiculous!

fromorbit · 20/02/2024 17:40

Go Jen! Suing the Gwent Police is a good move.

SadCelticBunny · 20/02/2024 17:55

Fantastic! Happy to do some gardening to support her.

She's a fabulous woman who has been through so much and yet she still fights on!

IwantToRetire · 20/02/2024 19:36

Thanks for posting this.

And really great that Jen feels able to take them on.

Can someone give me a hint of some words to use when searching for her garden. Have failed to locate where to start digging.

IwantToRetire · 20/02/2024 19:39

Sorry I read OP too quickly and missed the vital words Democracy 3.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 20/02/2024 19:53

Will do some digging.

Thanks for your support. If successful she's requested that the police be retrained in correct interpretation of Equality Act and protected characteristics. So we're trying to get discussion going on getting a suitable training provider.

It will be a big task for all public/private sectors/health/education/judiciary etc etc to become officially 'De-Stonewalled'.

Democracy3 seems to be a computer game. Democracy3.0 is a crowdfunding platform.

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/02/2024 11:18

BUMP

Whatifitallgoesright · 24/02/2024 12:20

Yes apologies for lack of clarity. Democracy three in words or 3.0

If anyone wants my twitter please DM. We could do with getting traction on there.

Supported. This was an extraordinary misuse of police resources to bully and silence women, and Jen in particular. Gwent police have a much broader misogyny problem Gwent Police to face misogyny, corruption and racism probe - BBC News

Can I ask advise for alternative platforms where GC people have gone to from Twitter? There's Threads, Mastodon, Discord? I'm sure there's others. I've just tried Quora but can't find any spaces that might be GC.

Need to promote Jen's campaign in more places. Despite getting myself a blue tick, 2 weeks later I seem to be seeing less gender crit stuff. Sodding technology.

There are probably far more GC women on facebook than twitter, which has a tiny number of users compared to facebook, but ...

Unless you are on facebook it wont be immediately easy to find individual women.

However, many groups such as WPUK, Sex Matters etc., are all on facebook and they all have followers.

So without inappropriately hijacking a thread on their pages, you could easily add a post saying this is also a matter of concern / indication of police targetting GC women or whatever seems a good way to include the info.

Have you thought to share with Fair Cop who I think is both on twitter and facebook?

SinnerBoy · 29/02/2024 17:32

I have donated, I did from the previous thread, a little while back.

On more Twitter publicity, what about posting it on JKR's feed, Julie Bindel, Maya Forstater and the like?

MrsBlackett · 29/02/2024 19:54

You could also try the various Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp f/b pages. I've seen gender critical posts on them from time to time.

Igmum · 01/03/2024 07:57

The Democracy 3.0 site seems to be down for maintenance so placemarking to remind me to come back and donate

Will donate when it’s up and running again. I remember reading about the way she was treated by Gwent police and was appalled.

It’s not much to ask the police to interpret the EA correctly, is it? Thank you, Jen.

Maybe get with Jen to do a press release. You might be able to get the Telegraph, Daily Mail to cover it positively. Key thing is to link it with Gwent police other failures.

Even the South Wales Argus might cover it as they covered original story , though obviously they might spin it.

However with crowdfunding any publicity is good. Every time TRAs run a hit piece it gets GCs funders more attention and money.

Did some gardening before the site changed ownership. Probably best to publicise in 48 hours when it should be up and running again.

Whatifitallgoesright · 01/03/2024 16:38

Thanks people. I will look into the press release requirements

It's a bugger to find, for me anyway. It's on the Demoncracy 3 site. It's headed
'Hold Gwent Police accountable for Hate Crime against Jen Swayne'. I'll dig in tomorrow I hope.
