Does anyone actually fully support trans people in women's changing rooms and loos?

bottomsup12 · 16/02/2024 11:35

Just curious really? I see a lot of aggressive stances (Owen Jones eg) pro this on twitter etc. I don't get it.
The only reason I can think of is that it's never actually happened to them and they imagine it will be fine but when it actually happens a few times they might start seeing sense?

For the men who are aggressively pro it I wonder how they would feel is women just started flooding into their changing rooms and bathrooms ?

Biology, biology, biology yawn. It's 2024. We've found ways around the limitations of our biology in all sorts of ways. Going on about it is just regressive and boring.

Let's hope you don't develop lung or pancreatic cancer or break your neck and end up quadriplegic or have a massive stroke because then you'll find out how important biology is.

And yes, to a PP, a truly foul and offensive post to anyone and everyone but particularly whose struggling with disability and illness.

Black women are women. White women are women. Trans women are women. Nothing racist about that. Some trans women have penises. Good thing sex is irrelevant. Biology, biology, biology yawn. It's 2024. 😂😂😂 Needed a laugh. Thanks.

I said in all sorts of ways. Not for everyone, yet.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2024 19:19

Not in the men can be women way, either. Sex matters.

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 17/02/2024 19:32

god transhumanism is so tedious. Insisting that biology and material reality must be transcended to be your authentic self.

That is not ‘progress’. It’s a very mid-20th century version of a ‘utopian’ future at best.

From what I gather listening to GC men, a lot of them actually do mind women in their single sex spaces. While there is no or little danger to them, all of a sudden they feel they have to change their behaviour and begin to accommodate. Just like women, men want to have time apart in their own space just to be. I don’t think in a sexist way but just be.

Agree with this

Ooh! A word game! Am I too late to play?

Tamworth pigs are pigs
Old Spot pigs are pigs
Guinea pigs are pigs

Some pigs are rodents.

Arab horses are horses
Suffolk Punch horses are horses
Seahorses are horses

Some horses can breathe underwater.

One of your lot accusing others of having a mid 20th century take. How deliciously ironic. Your gang never left 1973.

So who is not confined to their biology — and in what ways?

WomaninBoots · 17/02/2024 19:46

We're in a gang now! How exciting! 😎

Froodwithatowel · 17/02/2024 19:46

Deliciously.

Gosh I'm seeing that word a lot lately. I think it came up multiple times in Hayton's book. Unusual phrasing too.

Trans people who choose surgery/hormones.

Women who get pregnant using donor eggs.

Anyone who has life saving surgery or a transplant.

People who have cochlear implants.

Anyone who receives a blood transfusion or bone marrow.

I literally have never heard of this Hayton person.

Igneococcus · 17/02/2024 19:53

Trans people who choose surgery/hormones.

And the moment they stop taking those hormones biology will reassert itself.

SirChenjins · 17/02/2024 19:55

Women who get pregnant using donor eggs

Still biology mate - a bloke couldn’t get pregnant even if he had all the donor eggs in the world

I think the pp is identifying as a Ln early 20s uni student but give it 5-10 years, if they can indeed get pregnant in their 40s, and they'll come around. I know most women don't really experience the patriarchy until they become a mother. The stats do show pretty much equality if not better outcomes for women until parenthood.

I've literally just lost my job because my bosses found out I was having fertility treatment. I'm taking them to court for discrimination. My bosses are two cis gendered women. Make of that what you will.

RainWithSunnySpells · 17/02/2024 20:01

For some reason the quote 'better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt' springs to mind regarding a shocking lack of understanding around the topic of biology demonstrated in this thread.

ChatBFP · 17/02/2024 20:08

@PP82

The claims you make on biology are just false.

A mother having a c section might survive childbirth when she wouldn't otherwise. Or someone who has been cured of cancer may achieve a permanent change.

Someone who is taking hormones to try to get close to the opposite sex is just doing something that holds their original sex down a bit, like putting a ball under the water. If you don't keep acting, then the ball will shoot up out of the water - if you don't keep taking hormones then the reality of what sex you are will show itself again. It's in no way a sex change - few women need to dilate their vagina to stop it closing entirely.

Happyher · 17/02/2024 20:09

Having worked in public protection I totally disagree with biological males being allowed in women’s safe spaces. There are many offenders who would happily put on a dress and wig to gain access to women’s toilets. It’s not about objecting to trans women, it’s about protecting women and young girls.

I’ve been the only woman in a queue in gender neutral toilets and have to say the men looked as uncomfortable as me and obviously were unused to queuing

HagoftheNorth · 17/02/2024 20:15

PP82 what is your definition of ‘woman’? We’ve asked ‘your lot’ that question so many times, but we never get an answer beyond some vague description of ‘womanly feelings’ which none of us women actually recognise. Are you up for the challenge?

StarlightLime · 17/02/2024 20:20

Sooverthemill · 16/02/2024 12:03

Yes

Guessing you have some penis skin in the game?

@PP82

I'm in my 40s and just getting around to starting a family. 50 years ago my chances would have been low. Now I can get pregnant whenever I want.

Who on earth has told you that in your 40s (or at any age) you can 'get pregnant whenever you want'?! What a simplistic thing to state as fact.

Women can indeed conceive and carry children at an older age than previous generations could, due to medical advancements and improved care, but it is absolutely not the case that it's easy to get pregnant at the drop of a hat in your 40s. Let alone 'whenever I want', and it would be unethical of a medical professional to have ever told you that.

After 3 rounds of donor IVF I have a 99% chance of having a baby.

I mean it's not as simple as that. But anyway, why does it need to be? If an individual can achieve the change they seek, why does it matter if they need continued access to healthcare?
