'Particularly when it comes to questions around women's safety and health, biological sex is important.' Parents need to be involved in schools.

Rishi Sunak is asked 'why should LGBT people vote Conservative?'

He's obviously had to get primed for these sorts of questions, which is great, it shows that he knows they're coming.

He's asked about the LGBT, and concentrates on the LGB, then when pushed about the T he concentrates on the children - and then the women.

i'm loving the direction of Travel.

It will be interesting to see how Starmer would handle the same question.

And I hope the questions get a little more specific as well.

Yeah Sunak's answer was near perfect. The thing is the election will NOT be won on LGB or T issues [no election ever has been], but the economy and the Tories are doomed there.

For our purposes though the fact it is a Labour weak spot and the Tories will target it is to our advantage. That strengthen's the gender crit left.

What a sensible answer!

The common as muck part of me mentally reflected that that Robin looks like a bulldog licking piss off a nettle. Not the reasoned response he was hoping for.

SabrinaThwaite · 13/02/2024 06:56

I’d be interested to see if RMW had tweeted about Rishi’s obviously sensible transphobic reply, but I can’t as RMW blocked me (despite the fact I’ve never interacted with RMW on Twitter or anywhere else).

Ah I missed this and I’m not on Twitter sadly. RMW often posts about trans issues on LinkedIn but hasn’t posted about this

Magicmonster · 13/02/2024 07:04

Crossposted. Thanks @BonnyBo

Wow, good for Rishi - not sure why everyone dislikes him so much, I doubt Attila the Hun with a large whip could control the Tory party.

To be fair I think it was the facilitator rather than RMW who asked about the T.

I thought RS responses were very balanced.

Bob's blocked me, too, but I didn't point out some of them's factual inaccuracies. It's interesting to see that them says that messaging is open, when it appears not to be the case. Perhaps they means "open to those who agree with me"?

FrancescaContini · 13/02/2024 07:46

I think Starmer would try to squirm his way out of his claim a couple of years ago that it’s not true that women don’t have penises. I still don’t understand how someone who said that is in charge of the Opposition. Or has children of his own. Presumably he knows their sex.

Free speech for me but not for thee?

Good I hope talk on all this picks up

It's amazing how much more plausible politicians are when they are saying something they actually believe in.

RMW is a trans woman, previously known as RW (which flies in the face of the dreadfulness of dead naming). By retaining the name (albeit with a slight tweak) allows for the retention of all the previous professional privilege.

I am not RMW though, this just makes sense to me what would happen.

EasternStandard · 13/02/2024 07:52

There’s another thread on this with posters going on about ‘I’m as GC as they come but..’

Sure

Froodwithatowel · 13/02/2024 07:54

Well that was a thing of beauty!

As pps say - loved that when White said LGBT Sunak responded with a belief that the LGB were relevant and the focus, and White had to correct him that when White said LGBT White only in fact meant the T and didn't see the LGB as including anyone relevant. Great. The government have clocked that LGBT means a political TQ position to the lobby and nothing else. Like actually caring about or representing same sex oriented people.

Loved the use of same sex. Specific and clear and those people not erased and buried under other louder groups .

Loved that a question about TQ was responded to with regard to women and children's needs and equalities. What a turn up when every question women have asked about women for years has been met with 'well the main and most important thing about women's needs is to prioritise male people'.

Clear, calm, well explained, a view point of sensitivity, tolerance and equality for all without harm to others. I'll vote for that.

And that the TQ lobby and White are displeased by this says it all. If that pov 'destroys trans rights' then the 'right' being sought is to have women and children's rights destroyed and subordinated, and the harms to them counted as nothing worth caring about. Not equality but primacy. That isn't a right anyone with any morals or ethics, or with a typical social and balanced viewpoint, can justify seeking for.

I still don't trust him, I'm pretty sure he will say anything to get votes.
