Does anyone know what it means to be a candidate? If I stood or my area for example.

Obviously to be a member of the party as a whole, be selected to stand for the area.

But how much time needs to be dedicated?

And if you were elected then is it a full time job?

NoWordForFluffy · 09/02/2024 07:39

Yes, being an MP is a (more than) full time job. You'd have to spend the week in London to attend parliament (but I think it's 4 days, as MPs hold their local surgeries on a Friday).

Most parties have a minimum membership period before being able to stand, but PoW doesn't have that ability given the timings.

I don't think a councillor is a full time job, but I don't know huge amounts about that.

Fantastic news. Really pleased to see it's come through. Love the logo and name. Best wishes to KJK and her team for their hard work.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the manifesto and campaign will be like. Happy to donate and help leaflet etc if it looks good.

Yes, there needs to be a decent pool of women willing to come forward and stand as candidates. I expect initially the number will be quite small, but over the years if the party remains steadfast in its commitment to women's rights, there should be a growing number of candidates at local and national levels.

If there are women here who are interested in potentially getting into politics and running for election - this website and organisation is a useful resource for encouraging and training women into political life.

No, that's the Green party.

Hahaha zinger! 😂😂

PurpleBugz · 09/02/2024 08:59

Well done KJK!

I would pay a lot of money to see Keir sex fudge Starmer debate Kellie Jay about why, exactly, he's supporting an ideology that is leading to medical experimentation on children and undermining of safeguarding.

And to have him challenged over cases like Katie Dolatowski and Amy/Andrew Miller which show that GI undermines safeguarding.

PerkingFaintly · 09/02/2024 10:01

bananabug · 08/02/2024 22:04

Do you think it may just split some voters that would have voted conservative and will just give Labour a stronger chance of winning?

The political campaigning could help highlight the cause more though.

If usually-Tory voters believe the Tory party protects women's rights, why would they vote for Posie's party?

But even if one's only expecting a handful of votes, candidates should still stand. The whole point of single-issue candidates is the publicity.

A party like this needs people to stand anyway and be prepared to lose their deposit (ideally reimbursed by the party or local fundraisers). It's the cost of doing business for a single-issue party.

Calling it now....

Keir will refuse to debate KJK.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 08/02/2024 21:44

Never heard of her. I think the idea, theoretically, but some women are awful.

And all men are perfect and wonderful?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 09/02/2024 10:14

They absolutely aren't, @MacPoot . But so what? If neither are, why have a one sex party? I think people's beliefs matter more than their sex.

Of course he will. But not because he’s scared to debate her. He’ll refuse because why would he give legitimacy to a crackpot single issue party that exists to spew hatred at trans women. It’s insane. None of this will make the election ‘oh so juicy’ in the way that you all seem to think. It’s barely going to be a blip on the radar

What if their belief is that that their sex matters?

You have to fulfil a lot of criteria to become an official party, which she has. I don't think being a 'crackpot' is on the list.

And if you don't think the newspapers are going to make massive hay out of the sunshine that KJK is promising to bring, then maybe you're not paying attention to this debate.

SidewaysOtter · 09/02/2024 10:22

What “hatred” do you think will be “spewed” at transwomen then, @Hiphopopotamonster ?

EasternStandard · 09/02/2024 10:23

After listening to some on another thread. Unbelievably irritating

Bring it on I say

Who will pay KJK's lost deposit?

I find it interesting that you are implying that you don't want this woman to have a voice IClaudine, I wonder why that is?

borntobequiet · 09/02/2024 10:34

Keir will refuse to debate KJK.

As an official candidate in a general election KJK will have visibility and a voice, on the doorstep, at hustings and in the media. This is how she will hold him to account.
I predict an awful lot of negative attention, smears and dirty tricks against her from various quarters. I hope she has good advisors.

Ramblingnamechanger · 09/02/2024 10:36

A few suggestions for the womanfesto could be
Repeal of the GRA and abolition of the GRC
right to same sex care. Proper wages for care work
no men in refuges / prisons for women
no transition of under 18s
adoption of the Nordic model and establish exit routes for women from prostitution
priority for women as refugee/ asylum seekers
Restoration of full child benefits paid to the woman . Rights to other benefits as an individual.
compensation for all 50s born waspi women

any more?

SaunteringOnBy · 09/02/2024 10:37

@borntobequiet

I think you're right but, "various quarters", lets be real, it'll be men and the women that shine males golden cocks to a nice gleam using the patented 'Ego Rubber Rod Polish'

IClaudine · 09/02/2024 10:37

Saying that she will lose her deposit is not an attempt to silence her, it is stating a fact!

Haha! True. But even they had a purpose. To satirise the government, and hold their feet to the fire.

And guess what, you've heard of them, and they were reported in every paper in the land.

That's all we need. We need people to understand the issues, and not just that, but to watch our politicians' petrified inability to address them.
